American Fiction (2023)
Flat foot pacing
This movie was about an established/accompanied Author for a university in California that takes a sabbatical to help resolve some family issues. During that break he finds himself exploring the idea of pandering to the idea of what a black Author might mean to white Americans if he wrote from a cliché juxtaposition. So he does just that, goes under a ghost Author name and the book gets a lot of attention and in his mind, unjustified praise. Along the journey with the main character we see him fall in loss, experience the loss of his sister, the worry of caring for his elderly mother and support for his brother who has come into his authentic sexuality. It was enjoyable to see all this, however for me the movie just didn't land. Was lik walking flat footed all the way to the end.
Hands of a Stranger (1962)
Highly enjoyable
Don't take it too seriously and you'll really enjoy it..the movie is about a pianist that gets into a car crash and it seriously injured his hands and they are so injured that the doctor has to amputate his hands and replace them with those of a stranger!!!!! Lol..if you want a fun drinking, I'd recommend drinking every time they say hands. You will get so so so drunk. It was enjoyable and very dramatic and it's not supposed to be funny but it was. It was fun to watch and I enjoy the dramatic music and dialog. I thought the acting was a bit overdone but that's okay because it's appropriate for the time.
Emily the Criminal (2022)
Unengaging
So bored watching this. Do not feel invested in the character Emily. The unexpected romance that gives Stockholm syndrome vibes off. 70k in student debt does not feel like a high enough amount to get involved in all this. What else can I say, she seems so flat to watch. Flat and lifeless even after she gets beat up and trys to go stand up for herself. All of this all of it does not feel like how most would react in a situation like this. Her all vibes is dull lifeless and tired. Trying to think of more things to say to reach the requirements for for the character minimum to review. Boring movie.
Jared from Subway: Catching a Monster (2023)
Rochelle the clueless
Okay so first off, my heart hurts for all the victims of Jared. He's not the first nor the last adult who preys on children. The documentary brushed on his crimes but failed to paint the picture as it focused on the radio host Rochelle . I'm sorry but you have to be clueless to think without any professional advisement that recording Jared as she did would be legal. That's like common sense and is without doubt a crime.
Not sure what else to say about this program. It would have played better as a single movie verses a 3 part documentary. It was still interesting and the prospective of what fame gives you access to is much more interesting perspective.
Any Given Sunday (1999)
Worst football movie I've ever seen
So boring, terrible acting..I had zero interest in any of the characters. Cameron Diaz is just about unwatchable in this. I don't even know the point of it. Shows the dark side of nfl success and the power trip one can get on if the mist of their rise. Whatever. AND the soundtrack / editing was ALL OVER THE PLACE. I didn't think you could ever make a football movie I couldn't find something I enjoyed in it, but this film really proved you can have the most unengaging film, throw big stars in lik AL, Jamie fox, Cameron and fans of them will turn a bride eye. I wish I was a ghost on that wall just to not have to listen to Jamie foxx pretend to have his legacy all figured out.
Vertical Limit (2000)
The first 5 minutes is all you need to see
The beginning the two siblings have an evident bond that has been broken by the son having to cut the dad lose to save the life of his sister. and then nothing is very well explained. Sister is mad at brother for killing their father and doesn't seem appreciative of him saving her life. the whole movie everybody does stuff that doesn't make sense. There's not a lot of plot development or character building, everything that happens is very forced. there's a love interest that comes from out of nowhere. There's a villain that wouldn't listen and got everybody in danger. It's just mediocre at best
Rocketman (2019)
I was expecting more
Given how wonderful and fantastic Elton John is as a performer and singer I was really hoping for a more true biopic display of his story. I hate to say it because it'll be said time and time again but Bohemian Rhapsody hit on every point that I was hoping rocket man would. Although it was artistically creative it just really wasn't what I was looking for in the story of Elton John and I really would have liked to see more performances or replica of concerts he had performed in their entirety rather than one or two songs.
