The Silent Wrecks of Kwajalein Atoll (2007)
An insipid look at history
Although there is good underwater filming, the narration is garbage. When filming a downed F4U Corsair, it is mentioned that it may have been Boyington's ( shot down at Rabaul) or Lindbergh's (not shot down).
It is also a Vought Corsair, not Vogt.
The Douglas Dauntless is described as sometimes referred to as SBD...for Silent But Deadly. It actually was called SBD...for Scout Bomber Douglas. It was anything but silent.
The narrative created far too many doubts about the incredible battle for Kwajalein Atoll, and basically started a deep dislike for the production crew.
Obviously just another spurious "documentary.."
Windtalkers (2002)
Obviously not realistic
What a shame that both Navajo code-talkers AND the USMC was so shabbily depicted in this run of the mill hollywood shambles.
Despite the best efforts of the cast the Saipan campaign was given the good old shoot 'em up treatment...a M1927 Thompson having incredible range and accuracy, grenades with almost nuclear capabilities, and Naval shells acting like 75mm shells.
I really looked forward to Adam Beach's character being given more depth, and more scripting about how much the code-talkers accomplished during the Second World War, as most, if not all, have now passed.
The battle for Saipan was a hard one and I admit this film tried to show it, but it came off as a B grade effort...I gave it a 2 due to a lack of realism, poor scripting, too much gasoline in the supposed HE shells, the lack of the actual style of the campaign, which was a lot of cave clearing and not fields of neatly lined up japanese, and the worn out formula...complete with the requisite love interest. That left a 2 for the actual cast, who tried to carry it.
Basically, an insult to the Navajo, the Marines, the civilians who jumped from the cliffs, and the Japanese troops who died there also.
Burden of Evil (2012)
Typical Television Trash
I will not say much other than to say I was roped into watching this incredibly amateurish travesty. Although some films never portray real law enforcement work properly, this one goes above and beyond the call of duty to prove that: A. The writers and director have never met a police officer in their lives B. Some Canadian productions live down to our expectations from the 1970s C. Michael Ironsides still had a film commitment to finish
Incredibly weak plot, no dramatic moments, insipid action scenes, and a robotic portrayal of a policewoman by someone who may some day be the best actress ever to appear on radio. At least there she will be able to lull us to sleep in the wee hours.
The best thought is that if I can track down a DVD of this movie, it will make pretty flames in my fire pit.
I will not say avoid it, because then people will seek it out and watch it...beware...dry heaves can hurt.
