Udayon (2005)

Great performance by MohanLal
10 August 2005
Udayon (the Landlord) is the story of Sooranadu Kunju, a 76 year old who passionately loves and values his land more than even his blood-relatives, be it his sister or his own sons. This passion for land has been quite impressively picturised by director Bhadran through a few touching sequences in the movie. MohanLal plays the protagonist with absolute conviction, though it's hardly surprising if u know him. Manoj.K.Jayan and Bindu Panicker too fits the bill and make-up man Pattanam Rashid too has done a commendable job. But.. there is virtually nothing else remarkable about the movie - no good plot or convincing script, pretty ordinary technical effects, forgettable humour scenes, weak characters and a poor climax. In fact MohanLal is wasted as the son-character (he does a double role). But Udayon is rated watchable on account of the sheer performance of MohanLal as Sooranad Kunju. The director of movies like Spadikom and Olympian Antony Adam is capable of doing better.

It's Ritter.. Ritter all the way !
26 July 2005
John Ritter makes Zach and the film memorable. It's more or less a one man show by him, though the character hardly has an element of heroism in it. He wonderfully transforms himself into Zach Hutton, a writer by profession with a weakness for drinks and women. He faces the fury of boyfriends of the women, and later, the revenge of the girls themselves, after they break up.

The movie progresses with hilarious sequences, at times slap-stick. Be sure not to miss the dialogues, for there are many instances when humour makes its presence in the most unexpected of situations. Altogether non stop entertainment is warrantied..
