Well the class system in Britain is alive and well, hail the queen.

Alright the acting was actually pretty o.k.

. But being the movie was written by government propagandist's in the most cheesy airbrushed "life is sexy and fun" even when " hard"

☹️ Pouty face.

Is this eastenders for millennials daydreamers? But it was made in 2010?

They say it was made for 300,000 that's got to be bs. Maybe they got 10 million on the side from corporate-gov sponsors? Redeeming quality?

Heterosexuality is popularized and dating is encouraged. But apparently just for white barbie and ken.

Not a "french" movie
1 July 2016
This is an anglo-saxon movie presupposed on The Romanticism of the Early 1800 's of Northern France. Scenes of Celtic Brittany and Germany give it away clearly. The movie is a polemic of sorts showing a viewer that love is either death or life. The obvious and tedious even grating truth is that is is both and neither. Charlotte's genius suffers and still shines through amongst a college theater seeming ensemble type who enjoy dressing up in period pieces for their own enjoyment.

Why it was made to seem "big"? Not sure. Cannes seems to pick out some movies just because they nod French, sad really, but i suppose they highlight aspects of France's vast cultural influence, how ever trite and shallow they may portray it. Does anyone ever ask if it really serves the purpose then?

Important topics, lacks continuity.
18 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Production could have used a director of continuity to help with the segways and transitions between scenes. Writing was sub par. The tone was needing to stay sober which it did but characters were written too flat. Acting was o.k.considering.

Director dealt with many important topics, intimacy, death, family, coping mechanisms, life as elder, and sexuality.

We see a "picture" of male anatomy, which is a break through it seems. Also sheds light on the younger generations loss of connection and the anxiety and angst it produces, and the new judgmentalism "reverse discrimination" and delusions that it so easily descends into . When often it is harmless, or can even be healthy, loving, or care.

If this was college project or a low budget first attempt. It worked.

What is a husband? What is a wife?
18 February 2016
Watch this and find out! The lead actors playing the elderly couple are extraordinary. Not only about what marriage used to mean, commitment and deep intimacy and complimentary gender roles, And how well so many men and women used to work together on their own for survival. But also a profound and clear picture of what we are losing in society, independence, personal responsibility, self growth, creativity and the satisfaction of knowing yourself and doing things on your own. And how it is nearly impossible or even illegal to live that way today. A journey back when D.I.Y a necessity not a luxury. And all of it without some need to believe some hocus pocus Love commitment and personal self security based on your ability to actually do things for yourself. Almost lost nowadays.

Excellent
27 December 2015
Cogent, well written, well acted, and well directed.

Filming was excellent. The film moved in the correct tempo with ample economy and control .

Story was of an important matter that is often suppressed.

Much more poetic than polemic.

Strong female lead and direction was not self-righteously or overbearingly so.

Creative and multifaceted script.

More than adequate character development.

Balanced presentation between societal and personal.

Nice lighting.
