Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Same mistake as The Eternals
Overall, this was a decent start to a hopefully new saga of films. The story needs to be improved upon and could have, had they not made the same mistake as Marvel's The Eternals. They tried to introduced too many characters into a two hour film and by the end of the film we still know nothing about them other than their name and a brief description of where they came from. These characters have so much potential and I would love to know their backstory, especially the Bloodaxe family which they seemed to hype up so much only for that to go practically nowhere. And what happened to the robot from the beginning of the film? I was expecting so much more. I'm excited for the next installment and I hope they expand upon the characters and worlds they introduced. This has amazing potential.
The Loneliest Boy in the World (2022)
Seems like a wasted great idea
This movie looked amazing from the previews, but the actual movie didn't really live up to that. It feels like all the best parts were in the previews. And like another review mentioned, there seems to be some plot holes at the end, especially when the fire starts and the dead family is in the house. Obviously they will find the bodies. It almost seems as though the love interest suspected something was up at the end when she said "they went home, didn't they?" And Oliver says "yeah." But then the movie ends and I guess it's left up to us to interpret. I try to enjoy every movie for what it is and generally am not too critical, but this one had me feeling like something was missing the whole time. Loved the actors, they did a great job, but the storyline could have been better.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Intimidation Game (2015)
It kind of sucks
This was a wild episode. You get upset gamer bois leaving 1 star reviews because SVU went after their precious community and people leaving 10 stars because they want to one up said gamer bois. I'm neither of those people and I give it 3 stars. The acting in this episode is god awful. I'm used to SVU being dramatic, it's what makes the show work, but this was over the top. I didn't even want to finish the episode. And not to mention they throw around internet and gamer slang in this episode like it's going out of style. It's cringey. But that's not new, every time the writers learn a new slang word they feel like they have to sprinkle it all over the episode. This whole season seems like it went down the drain.
Luckiest Girl Alive (2022)
Not what I was expecting
This is absolutely not what I was expecting. The trailer made this seem like a "Cruel Summer" (hello, Chiara) scenario where we would wonder if our main girl had anything to do with the serious events in her past that she was accused of. The film unfolded into so much more than that. A truly powerful look at how sexual assault victims are gaslit by family and peers in every day life and left to pick up the crumbs. Mila and Chiara were truly remarkable. I was expecting more of a murder mystery type of movie, I wasn't expecting to feel so much for these characters. These are not just characters in a movie - these are women you know. Maybe your mom or your sister or your best friend.
