The Mother (2023)

I liked some of the scenery
20 May 2023
But not the awful CGI explosions.

And a lot of other stuff that was just cringe worthy. 12 years later looking exactly the same, the perfect (probably fake) fur parka right outta Canada Goose online before they stopped using real fur (which has an advantage btw, but whatever).

Gasp, he's still alive! How could that be?! I mean, didn't the character watch what happens when a hundred thousand other badass character heroes did the same thing, turned around a walked away before "checking for remains". Guess not.

If this is screen writer's best material, I hope the 2023 strike goes on for a long time, give them some time to think up a better way of regurgitating the same stuff.

Well done! But it's not a history lesson.
12 April 2023
Great short on just one storyline of the many available on this horrific event.

If you want to know more about the explosion then search it, there's plenty out there. Don't assume this short is anything but that, a short of one person's story. Don't rate it poor because you want it to be what it's not.

These take a LONG time to make, appreciate that.

I liked the music, the flashbacks, the colouring, the rawness, right down to some gestures the sailor makes. I won't give it away, it's a short after all.

You can watch it on NFB website and youtube. NFB stands for National Film Board of Canada.

Written for an American audience?
18 July 2022
The use of the word Nazi vs Germans. Politically correct I guess?

Salutes not right.

An admiral who threatens "drawn and quartered" with a snarly face.

Sending your family to US of A instead of a colonial within the dominion?

Do it again, this time properly.

What a waste of good actors and a great story.

So disappointed.

Tag Line - How did happen
18 March 2022
Well, if you don't want to watch it, then here's how it happened

Some stock was issued, it was "worth" 4.7, then the reports on earnings came in, it didn't look good, the management was messy, the stock became worth 4.

That's what happened.

I know AH spouts that tag line as the drama, but it's not rocket science. The series may be entertainment, but there's no big corporate mystery here.

Didn't take long into
20 January 2022
This to realize they wanted to wrap it all up.

Alan Alda looking all ernest at Ray's revelations.

Meh, I dunno, I tried. Show dragged on too long as it was.

Lina with a 1 minute scene, no crazy Russian.

Never a fan of the Brig character, her brother disappears into thin ice.

Bunch all pie eyed to his ex.

I guess they got to finish the story line that could have been done more classy in the final season. Should that have been known in advance.

Well that was cutting it close

Billions turned into a goofball rally, so has the Season 3 of Succession. Dumb cameos. Poor continuity, where the hell did his brother from Quebec go...etc etc.

The only great line through the season was watching Greg squirm for jail and Shiv's butt expand.

If it weren't for the last two episodes pulling it of a hat I'd have said it's sunk.

Awful lot of FaceTime (product placement) and Zoom calls.

Oh and cue the long slow shot of the Jaguar pulling out of the garage with Senior driving.

I agree with everyone's comments, it suddenly shows recent reviews, maybe because it's on CBC Gem streaming in Canada? If you can tolerate the same CTire ad 8 times in one show (MUTE!) check it out. Great little show.

Just to make sure the makers of this documentary get it loud and clear, I'm going to knowingly echo the other reviewers.

Yeah, it's stupid, but ef is it funny.

Beer games was stupid too, and I laughed myself stupid on that one too.

No, it's not high theatre, it's an escape from the drudgery of crappo being streamed.

Good job boys.

Yes it is as bad as the ratings/raters say
5 September 2021
Where to start.

Let's pan across a Chevrolet and show it's badge multiple times. But block out the Ford badge.

Plan the Canadians for screwing up the job. Seen that before.

Co-mix RCMP, Mounties "crown officers" (WTF is that?) Montreal (I think) police officers at random.

Cliché writing all over the place, cheesy scenes. I spit out my beer with the "French Canadian" hoodlum.

Crappy writing, why are there decent actors in this? Donate their pay to opioid prevention?

Yeah, it was bad, sorry, just was.

Love Walken but Gordon Pinsent would've been cool
24 July 2021
However nobody would watch it as "too Canadian".

Crave produced but shows up on Apple TV and not Crave? Odd.

I'm a little dubious that locals would have turned on him, doesn't seem right. Saying "Thank you" after getting the initial letter? Very Canadian.

Incredibly moving
12 September 2020
First of all, meow lady, if Craig had not been there, the process of her end of life would have been no different. Who are you to dictate what species is denied food? He interacted with a species, but at no point did he become a guardian. Think about balance, and not emotions.

That said, one fascinating story that I enjoyed immensely.

Oh, and the review that talks about making it with an animal? Grow up.

Ugh Painful
24 August 2020
Watching Diane Keaton do the same old insert <young/middle age/older> baffled woman is tiring and just painful to watch, what a waste of Gleason's acting. Without searching I'm going to assume the screenplay was either written by an American or strongly influenced by one. I couldn't wait to get through it. Girl loses guy, then TWIST! Guy loses girl, wow, didn't see that coming. Had my wife not been there I'd have long gone after 10 minutes.

What a mess
24 June 2020
What happened to Quint? Why were they in so much trouble in the Hedge House? How did her dude recover? Ugh, so many issues with the story line. Oh well, Netflix gets a cheap film to throw up, almost literally, on the new releases.

Warning: Spoilers
This was well done until 2020. It has just become real cheese ball writing. I'm watching out of loyalty but find myself drifting,

The Shaman hug, Wags is just annoying now, let's throw the kids in there for fun. His ex-wife disappeared off the planet. Taylor's employees make the pit messy with characters coming and going at random.

I don't know if I can stay with it much longer. Oh and Wendy, so lost now. She's just aimless in the role Axe Cap has given her. Chucks' Dad has a kid??

Guess it hits too close to home
29 February 2020
I find it super interesting as the lines and episodes become more hard hitting that the knives come out. Looking in the mirror are you all downers?

That's what makes it so funny, it's true. In the words of Fat Tony.

Yeah, It'll probably get cancelled soon, too real. For extra laughs look for the youtube video "Every Customer Interstitial - Superstore"

I see today Amy is movin' on.

I never worked at one of these stores but how customers react I can relate to.

These writers are tuned in.

Myrtle clip was very cool. Either computer added or filmed before she passed, who knows.

But to other reviewer, no, she's not Jesus arisen from the dead.

Elizabeth Wettlaufer I suspect. Elizabeth Saunders does a fantastic job.

I enjoyed the show and how it portrays a very complex situation in an entertainment environment.

I'd watch Catherine do anything regardless.

A good watch overall
12 January 2018
Very much enjoyed season 1, lots of interactions between all the players in the family and government.

Season 2 become more of a study in ego, attitudes and scandals. More of a soap opera style, be that what what it is.

Claire was asked to look stunned, surprised, concerned and worried, a lot.

I was quite surprised there was not even a single line of dialogue dedicated to the architect of peace in the Suez, Lester Pearson, who even won a Nobel peace prize for it for heavens sake!

Enlightening and heartfelt

Really enjoyed watching this and learned a lot about the lives these guys had.

What struck me in the end was nobody was overly bitter (at least in this film) or resentful other than the lack of communication when their time was up.

They seemed to know the precarious edge that chose to live on and what that meant in job security. But happy to have been part of something big and creative.

Our World War (2014)

Well I loved it!
19 September 2017
Very much enjoyed this show. I don't get all fussed about rivet counting. And judging from some of the reviewers, they were expecting a tried and true formula. The "video game" graphics and modern music may have well drawn in the younger gen, and that's important.

There's lots of war movies out there, so you're comments about '80's rock music etc are misguided, this is how younger gen see things and it works.

Plus, I hate to say it, the US ones are usually better, and all I hear is "the yanks think they won the bloody war themselves!" Most of those in the know, know that's not true but frankly, Spielberg, Hanks et al. nailed it, sorry, they did, and if another country does the same, good one them. Dunkirk is a fine example, there was even a Canadian series modelled somewhat on BOB style that was modern, easy to follow with an accompanying web site (although it's gone now I think) History Canada's War Story. Same with Paul Gross in Passchendaele.

So I hope this give some of the younger less uptight gen a glimpse, of what the great war was like, from a first person perspective.
