One Punch Man: Wanpanman (2015)
Just AWESOME!!!
I'd never heard of this manga..So,when I saw the anime getting rave reviews,I decided to give it a shot...Trust me,One Punch Man did not disappoint.
OPM tells about the life of Saitama,a guy who can defeat enemies with just one punch,OPM acts as a parody of sorts to the endless amounts of shonen action anime that Japan produces(u know,DBZ,Naruto and the like). The anime is just comic gold with Saitama frustrated that no enemy is of his caliber(Again,a parody of the classic shonen trope).Where other series show the hero training to his peak, the guy's already at his peak..
The anime is just comic gold with Saitama's expressions being the best part of it and just because it's a parody doesn't mean the action is crappy...It's the opposite actually...OPM has the best fights I've seen in ages...
All in all,You should definitely watch OPM!!
Arrow (2012)
A good watch,if you like superheroes
Arrow was my first intro to the Green Arrow character(Don't blame me,blame DC for focusing on Batman and Superman and the Justice League alone)..If you liked Chris Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy,Arrow might interest you. To be honest, the show has a weird peak and ebb in quality..The positives, the characters do their best with Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen at the center(He may be the definitive Green Arrow). It's mostly realistic(Season 1 at least)before venturing into meta humans and magic..But it still is a bit grounded..The action is great and the episodes are great most of the time..It's got pretty good characters and a usually great antagonist for every season Now,the negatives.Whereas,S1 and S2 were good and great respectively,S3 was just meh..S4 just started and so far,so good..Just because I said it's like the Dark Knight, don't expect too much..It's also annoying that some villains are from the Batman mythos(Huntress,Ra's Al Ghul,Anarky) and some of it's soap opera elements can be a bit irksome at times.. If you like superheroes,Arrow is a definite watch..Others can give it a try..
The Flash (2014)
For fans of the comics and Arrow
If you're a fan of superhero shows, the comics or a fan of the Arrow series, then "The Flash" will be right up your alley..Otherwise,you can watch the first few episodes and decide.. While Arrow went the Christopher Nolan route with being realistic and all(though that's decreasing with every season),Flash embraces it comic book roots like no other show there.I mean, there is a talking gorilla as a villain, dammit!!!And with the exception of Iris West, all the other characters are very likable, with Grant Gustin nailing Barry Allen and his support team too bring in the humour..It's a perfect antithesis to the Arrow and Daredevil series All in all,The Flash depends on your tastes..It's a good watch
Dragon Ball Z (1996)
A Must Watch
If you've seen anime, but haven't seen Dragon Ball Z,then you sir,are committing a grave mistake..Very,Very Grave!!! If balls to the walls action is what you desire,Dragon Ball Z delivers it in spades and then some.Hell,it's the anime that started the whole anime craze in other countries..That should say a lot to you. Based on the adventures of Goku and his friends,Dragon Ball Z is one hell of a ride from start to finish..It's got great characters, awesome villains,Ballistic fights that still are the pinnacle of anime..Even to this day,DBZ is famous what with it's sequel and games still going great guns(Dragon Ball Super,Not DB GT,that one was mediocre).
Long story short, just watch DBZ..It's worth it!!
True Detective (2014)
Just Season 1
Seriously,I'm giving this rating just for the first season alone..Everything was perfect in it...McConaughey,Harrelson..The story,The camera work(Who can forget that epic tracking shot in Episode 4?),The setting,The direction...Everything clicked perfectly(save for the disappointing ending)...
Do yourself a favor and watch the First season alone....Don't watch the second season..I watched the first episode and couldn't sit through it..It was that boring..The performances were functional at best..And the atmosphere that was a high point of Season 1 was notably absent here...It felt like another standard crime drama..
That should sum it up for you..
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
If you never watched anime, this is a great start
Anime, for me,has always been about crazy plots, sometimes crazy characters and mostly bat-s**t insane fights on one side and your usual high school drama interlaced with the usual anime tropes on the other..So,I was surprised when my friend recommended Death Note..Trust me,for a guy who watched DBZ,Naruto and the like,Death Note was different....
It's essentially a Sherlock Holmes type story..Only thing is we're seeing it from Light Yagami's side(You could say he's like Moriarty) and L(Sherlock,I guess)is the detective out to get him, with a dose of magic thrown in.It's the best cat and mouse game between the characters I'd seen in anime.Like Ever.. If you never watched anime,Death Note is a great start. For anime fans,It's a must watch.
