Dalziel and Pascoe: Houdini's Ghost: Part 1 (2006)
Annoying score
The story and cast were overshadowed by an idiotically eccentric and intrusive musical score, similarly ludicrous camera moves, and even bad choices in set design, all of which needlessly distracted from anything of quality in the episode. This applies to both parts of "Houdini's Ghost," which we saw combined as a single episode.
On another note, this is not the first episode in which Andy Dalziel reconnects with a former flame, despite his claiming this was the only time he was ever in love. You can't blame the actors or fault their performances, but you might wish for better consistency from the writers, not to mention their repeated portrayals of Dalziel having beautiful women find him attractive.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Disappointing Season 2
While not completely awful, Season 2 is a big disappointment. Alternately crude and dull, it insults the viewer's intelligence with plot holes, cliches, and filler. High production values fail to hide the mediocre script. Jack Ryan's skills as an analyst are ignored in favour of machismo in the jungle, and his character has has become two- dimensional. Sadly, John Krasinsky is unable to overcome the season's weaknesses. Wendell Pierce does better and is excellent as usual, and Jordi Mollà does well but is a typical megalomaniac bad guy. The rest of the supporting cast manage some good work but are often overwhelmed by a noisy and hackneyed production.
The Thirteenth Chair (1929)
Sloppy timing and preposterous acting
Excessively stilted and hammy acting from John Davidson, Helene Millard, Leila Hyams, Conrad Nagel, and yes, Bela Lugosi. It may have been the style of the times but to modern eyes it is unbearable. Though at times melodramatic, Margaret Wycherley fares better, as do several of the supporting cast.
