Dream Scenario (2023)
hopefully we're not quite there yet
I found myself saying out loud "c'mon, really ?" to the reactions that escalated. What started as harmless weirdness grows in to something else. As someone who has intense, colorful and weird dreams that would make Stephen King go " ... huh ..." I've never been afraid of anything or anybody that resembled a real life person once I awaken. It's just a dream ... no harm. The reactions people have are too irrational to be taken seriously. Like the diner scene. "C'mon !". And what was the purpose of Dylan's smaller-than-expected dinner party ? That scene didn't really fit. But, I am one to appreciate originality, so it's got that going for it.
1883 (2021)
Some scenery nice, but several logic holes.
If Sam Elliot character so wise, why did they start up without knowing: who has guns (there may be bandits?), who can swim(we're crossing rivers, so...) , what kind of extra crap can they leave behind (c'mon, man - no pianos), all their food in one wagon - really ?, etc. It's like this is the character's first wagon train. Also, this has to be just me, but - todays cameras can film in pretty low light. The use of high-powered lights hung from crane in the sky to light up several acres - why ? Have you ever been in the dark ? It's freakin dark. Film it likewise. It can't possibly be a full moon the whole way every night. The story is predictable - I suppose no way around that. As soon as Elsa found a guy, naturally he has to die. Hoping 1923 is better.
Death Valley (2021)
Well, they tried.
Location shots were decent - bunker scenes
were horrible - what in the world is up with
all the flickering fluorescents ? At least one
per room. Just like shaky-cam of yore, I think
we're past that. Noticed on my version - some
of the lines were doubled up.
"dogs are coming. We gotta go."
"dogs are coming. We gotta go."
And more.
The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch: Bad Things Happen When You Dig (2020)
I may give it a few more episodes, but ...
As soon as the one guy forbids digging, because ... well, scary stuff - I thought "oh goody, typical scripted drama". It looks like someone has invested a lot of money into the 'control room' and production, but if there's "so much stuff" then why stretch it out with pointless meeting ? And for lights on the mesa ... really ?
Tenet (2020)
Well, we know the Audio guy won't win an award
Holy crap - I have perfect hearing, but
maybe not after this. what the hell ?
I liked the premise and action, but someone
really screwed up big audio-wise.
Sad for a movie with this budget.
Did sound guy forget his hearing aids ?
The Enemy Within (2019)
Hasn't 'Shaky-cam' run its course ?
Good heavens ... is there still a shortage of tripods in TV land ?
As I enjoyed Rosewood/Dexter, was looking forward to this.
But, nooo . . .
A lot of shows are similar to others.
I wanted to give it a chance.
I can not.
Plenty of shows to watch without getting nauseous.
( do any Producers even read these ? BAN Shaky-Cam )
Alien Psychosis (2018)
omg - stfu
Sorry, only 3:30 in to it - had to stop.
Lights don't flicker like that, and for the love of pete -
Duct Tape Guy - shut up. SHUT UP.
Was hoping for another Jacob's Ladder kind of thing.
Will try to watch again when I'm ½ drunk or something.
update:
Well, I finished it.
( sigh )
Has nothing to do with flying saucers.
And if 3 goofballs wearing masks are to pass
as aliens, then there's aliens. There is
also some unnecessary cuddling of dead
baby ripped from womb. Was there even a point ?
Happy Christmas (2014)
How bad was it ...?
So bad, no one knows how it ends.
Barely made it to 15 minute mark.
Don't. Just don't.
The Beyond (2017)
'Shakey-Cam' seriously detracts
I'm only ½ way through, but I need to stop and take a break.
Several scenes are happily on tripod, but the handheld scenes
are nearly un-watchable. Why is shakey-cam still a thing ?
And why zoom-into-focus on nearly every scene ?
Clearly intentional, because simple editing could have done away
with that. Anyway, the premise (so far) is interesting and looking
forward to see where it goes.
11.22.63 (2016)
like most Time Travel shows ...
At the start of most outdoor scenes, I can hear "cue the car, ACTION !" and what may usually be an empty street, is a car or 2 always going by, and a bunch of people walking aimlessly. Hey, not every street even HAS people, and if you're going to do a car chase, find more than 4 cars, so they're not in every shot. I did like the one rusty car; not every car has to look brand new. Try harder for realism. As acting goes, they all did a great job allowing me to get lost in the past. Will now have to go read the book to see what was missed. The wardrobe was also excellent, and set location was pretty accurate for that time. ( I was around back then ).
