Starts with a fresh and unique premise but slowly...It's clever and it's horrific but the outcome is not the best pay off that it could have been. Jessica Biel who I would say is a very so-so actress is rather good in her performance. I really liked the first half of the movie and didn't see many of the twists coming but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed once I'd reached the conclusion. It's overall a better than average horror flick but there's lots of better ones out there (and even more that are worse).

An absolute must see for fans of serial killer films. This is one of the best, inspired by an actual killer and his accomplice, it's a very unrestrained look at an artist who's particular talents are expressed with graphically realistic violence. The direction and action are top notch for the minuscule budget it was made on. One of those rare horror films that sits with you well after it's over. Check it out.

A very clever and well made horror flick. The idea of a haunted mirror initially comes off as a little cheesy. But the script's non-linear storytelling is intoxicating and the acting is superb. The film makers clearly realized the limitations of their budget and expertly used every cent to their advantage. The underlining premise of the narrative provides the scares and the chills not a bunch of hokey phony looking CGI effects. Originally planned as a series of movies, which has yet to be seen, the Blu-Ray contains the original short film that formed the basis for this movie. Watching them together makes for a fun watch that doesn't over stay it's welcome.

An all around excellent thriller. The story and pacing are unrelenting. The set up is rather unique and continues to be a truly engrossing film with an excellent climax. The violence is not over the top or gratuitous but is extremely realistic which just adds to the tension. A very cool and intense movie.

To class this a horror film is misleading. It's tag-line is "A New England Folktale" and that sums it up perfectly. Yes there are elements of horror and yes there is a witch but this is more of a drama than a horror flick. It's an exceptionally well made movie and worth watching but if you're more of a jump scare/gore fan this may not be the movie for you. If you want a really good folktale that's creepy than it doesn't get better than this.

It's easy to say this is a female "James Bond or "Jason Bourne" but it far excels such a description. In fact it's got better action than some of those movies. The action is very stylized and a bit over the top at times but it's consistently engaging. Forget Tombraider this is Angelina Jolie as the ultimate female action lead. Very well directed and features an exceptional cast who play everything very seriously even when it feels a bit silly, this is a big plus.

This is an absolutely outstanding movie. The cinematography is gorgeous, the acting is more than adequate and the story is thoroughly engrossing. It's essentially a rather intense love story. There are certainly elements of horror but they're handled in such a unique fashion. Lived up to the hype I've heard and far exceeded my expectations. It is not your standard horror film by any stretch of the imagination. Something worth seeking out.

So this wasn't as bad as I thought it may be nor was it anything particularly exceptional. I'm admittedly not a huge horror found footage fan. It's been overdone and there are few stand outs. This actually had a very interesting premise but a poor follow through. So if you're a found footage fan than it's definitely worth a watch. But there are far superior sci-fi horror films instead. The absolute king of the mountain would be "Alien".

It had a premise that didn't sound particularly interesting but is really one hell of a good movie. It may be a culture shock to some (which is a good thing) but this is one of the most emotionally moving films I've ever seen. An absolute must see dramatic thriller. Proof positive of how talented J-Law is.

One of the best murder for hire films ever. Forget all those "Mission Impossible" movies. This is the ultimate Tom Cruise as a bad-ass film that you'll ever see. And this is on top of the list of best Jamie Foxx performances (I would say he's only better in "Ray"). A great stylish thriller with truly beautiful cinematography.

This movie single handily solidified Liam Neeson as one of the best action leads in modern films. He expertly handles the drama and intensity of the story as well as the phenomenal action sequences. He's done action before this and after this but this is the only must see. It's a very re-watchable movie with unnecessary sequels, just stick with the original.

It's a nice little flick that you will not see coming. It doesn't pull any punches and doesn't play by the rules. A true exercise in the horror that war can create but not on the battle fields. Exceptional script, cast and direction. It has a very retro '80's Halloween slasher vibe but isn't dated in the least.

A truly scary film for real horror fans. Every once in awhile a film comes along that redefines it's genre. In this case it's the supernatural horror variety. It's an expertly made film that is endlessly clever, doesn't rely on cheap jump scares and is genuinely unsettling to watch at times.

A stylish period movie where the ever lovable Tom Hanks is a mob enforcer? Bingo. A brilliant and beautiful film that focuses on the father-son relationship with a heavy dose of violence and a heavier dose of compelling performances from a great ensemble cast. Side note: Many people might not know that this is actually based on a graphic novel.

A man-child on an epic quest to reclaim his prized bicycle. Full of some of the strangest and most brilliant characters you'll ever see. It's quirky in the best ways and it's humor is wonderfully off-beat and bizarre. Needs to be seen for the opening breakfast scene alone...and just gets better.

Quite possibly the most unique gangster movie I've seen. The part of Don Logan expertly played by Ben Kingsley is easily one of the most intimidating characters ever captured on celluloid. It delivers lines of dialogue that you'll never forget not that you'd want to. It's an absolute perfectly titled film. Worth watching and re-watching to catch any of the little bits you might have missed.

Sean Penn knocks it out of the park. An over looked flick in Oliver Stone's filmography, which can be very hit or miss. Great cast playing weird characters, an intrinsic plot that keeps you guessing and Stone's unique visuals all add up to one hell of a ride through Superior, Arizona. Definitely a trip worth taking.

The humor can be lewd and crude but the characters are soo eccentric that it's a comedic goldmine. Jonah Hill plays the titular sitter but he is actually one of the weaker points of this film. The kids he's watching and the drug dealer he encounters steal the show. Very very funny. Often compared to the '80's "Adventure's in Babysitting" movie.

This is a very smart "dumb" comedy movie. Easily the best film ever made about the modeling industry. Also it's absolutely hilarious. Hysterical sight gags and seemingly endless quotable dialogue. Don't let the disappointing and unnecessary sequel tarnish this comedic gold mine. Only by watching will you be able to answer the question: "But why male models?"

A perfect example of an obsession gone awry. The technology may be dated but it's still a twisted little movie. The late great Robin William's best dramatic role. Most of the film is bright and beautiful to watch but the underlying tone is dark and disturbing. One of the all time best psychological thrillers.

The condescending attitude of the 1980's as seen through the eyes of a serial killer. Or is it just the sick fantasies of an extremely disturbed individual? It's extremely humerus and also filled with explicitly stylized violence and lots of blood. It's such a unique and twisted tale of insanity and vanity.

Director's Cut could mean any number of things...studio interference, re- shoots, poor test screenings. Most of the time that just means a couple more minutes added but sometimes there are drastic differences from the original released. This is one of those big changes. I liked this movie with it's sharp writing and nice mix of violence with dark humor. 'Like' has become 'love'. If you've never seen it and your a big film buff I'd say watch both versions to see the difference. If you've never seen it, Straight Up is hands down the way to go.

Someone I know compared this to "The Transporter" and action films like that. Not at all; that's like comparing a gourmet restaurant to a fast food joint. This film is beautifully shot and is masterfully acted. It is incredibly intense and has an amazing soundtrack. It transcends beyond a standard action film and becomes a dramatic experience that stays with you.

I think it might be against the law to make a list of cult movies and not include this. It wasn't too warmly received when initially released it has since spawned numerous books, annual conventions and a notoriously hilarious edited for television version. Lots has been said and written about it. It's one of the ultimate cult films.

An overlooked gritty realistic police drama. Phenomenal acting with stylistic violence all wrapped up in a package that daringly blurs the line of right and wrong in regards to law enforcement. An engrossing thriller that keeps your eyes glued to the screen. Unique and engrossing visual style helps to escalate it even more.
