Lloyd (2001)
Lloyd slipped through without notice.
This movie reminds me of being a kid. Not that I had a life like Lloyd, but just how kids think, and act in life. Kids have no clue the whole world is in front of them. They also have no real idea that their youth will be gone in a flash. Todd Bosley (Lloyd) is one of the most overlooked young actors in Hollywood. It's easy to see he is a natural, and the sky is the limit for him, if he chooses to stay in films. What makes him special is his ability to draw a laugh, without props, or a gag. His antics put me in mind of Jim Carrey. Not that he acts like Carrey, Bosley seems to have a natural comedic style all his own.
The supporting cast is also very good. While watching this film, you are sure to recognize some familiar faces. None of them, that I recall, ever having leading roles. But, still provide Bosley with fantastic support. I rate it a 9 out of 10. This is a movie for children, but adults can find some fun in the film too.
It's clean, fun, and I think it has a great lesson for kids. Forget your troubles. Have a good time, things always have a way of working themselves out. I rate it 9 out of 10, because I felt the depth could have been better for the cast. But, it is still a good movie.
Fat Albert (2004)
Refreshing
In an age where the shock factor has been lost. Where a night to the movies means we will spend money to see middle school jokes, and sexual innuendo. Fat Albert is a break from the prototypical comedy of today. This movie reminded me that a film does not require foul language, and filthy site gags to make me laugh. Kenan Thompson played the part of Fat Albert better than anyone could in my opinion. The supporting cast brought laughter as well. The movie has super hidden points if you pay close attention to the metaphors. Most important to me is the fact that you do not have to try hard to find something wonderful about life. Friends, family, and someone who loves you, makes everyday worth living. Fat Albert reminded me to try and remember the good times. Try and think positive. Most of all, have some fun along the way.
This is one of the most family safe movies I have ever seen. But, it has something for children, as well as adults. Aside from a laugh, you might have a happy sniffle as well.
Listen Up (2004)
Listen up could have worked.
Every show has a catch. Whether it's a nutty neighbor, or an out of the "norm" situation. Listen up, having the huge star Jason Alexander was enough to make me watch. Before the debut in the fall of 2004, I was looking forward to this show more than any in the fall line up. But, once the plot was laid out, we found rather quickly the show lacked. Jason Alexander was surrounded with very serious characters. Everyone was expecting Alexander to mimic his George Costanza persona. He did, or tried to at least. The problem was there was nobody within the cast to bring out the hot tempered, overreacting character, Jason Alexander preforms so well.
Listen up needed a sidekick for Alexander. An overbearing parent, a busy body next door neighbor type, someone to fuel the fire of Alexander's character. Listen up would be the equivalent to the Jeffersons with out Tom and Helen Willis, Florence the maid, and Mr. Bentley. Without those people, who would have pushed George Jefferson to his limits? The same can be said here. There was nobody to push Jason Alexander to his limits. We were left forcing ourselves to laugh at Alexander, living around characters that lacked depth.
