Wild Card (2015)
It's like an unfunny parody of the original
Heat (1986) with Burt Reynolds is a pretty good movie. This movie heavily copies the script for that film word for word for the most part except they missed the point of that movie.
Gone is the heart and soul that made that film work. They cut several important scenes and changed Nicks last name. Otherwise they did poor imitations of the dialogue from the original. Why they set it at Christmas and used the music they did for the scenes is also a terrible idea.
If you don't watch Heat and you only watch this then maybe you can find some enjoyment from this. I watched them back to back and couldn't find anything likable about this mess. 1/10.
Some Nudity Required (2023)
The title doesn't lie
I know this was a low budget independent film but even by those standards this was bad. It's meant to be a comedy but it's too cringy for that.
Theres a good scene of nudity where the lead takes her top off in a bathroom after she just took a dump so killed the sexiness. Then there's old men in their underwear and creepy dudes doing creepy things.
I'm not sure why they thought this script worked but while it is clearly meant to be a spoof of low budget films that require nudity it just doesn't work when the movie itself is a low budget film with nudity.
This could have been salvaged if it tried harder but instead it fell into the category it was trying to spoof. I give it 1 star which it only earned cause of that 1 scene. I wanted to laugh with this movie but it doesn't even succeed in making us laugh at it.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
A Review from a non horror fan who never played the games
Quick review of Five Nights at Freddy's. Warning contains minor spoilers.
I never played the games and only know of the characters from stocking the action figures at Walmart. Decided to give the film a shot and let me first explain to those that don't know me that I am not a horror fan so I was pleasantly surprised how much character development was put into this.
A lot didn't make sense throughout the movie but I feel most of it was explained by the end except a few things here and there. Overall I liked it and I feel it does ok for a non horror fan looking for something creepy without too much gore.
I was really upset with how the babysitter character came to her end as she seemed innocent and what happened with the lawyer who was creepy on his own? Those were my 2 biggest issues.
I rate it 6 out of 10. Would have been higher with a bit more explanation. They say this is ok for kids but if I saw this as a kid I wouldn't have slept for a year. Even as an adult it creeped me out.
Haunted Mansion (2023)
Went way above my expectations
Let me start with the fact that I like the Eddie Murphy version of Haunted Mansion. That said I gotta say I loved this version even more.
I was expecting to hate this but gave it a shot anyway and the first 10 minutes were not a great way to start this movie as I almost turned it off and decided not to waste my time.
I'm so glad I decided to stick it out though. This movie was so much better than I expected and after that first 10 minutes nothing dragged in the 2 plus hour runtime.
This movie feels like a ride as it has thrills and laughs around every corner to keep the viewer entertained. It's not without its flaws and some stuff could have been elaborated on more but then the run time would have gone too long.
I laughed, I cried, I cheered and legit had some intense scary moments. Exactly what you would expect from this movie. Owen Wilson is hilarious in every scene of this and I was pleasantly surprised by that.
If you are looking for a fun spooky movie to watch with kids this is it. It's not the greatest film you'll ever see but it will provide a couple of hours of good entertainment for you and your family. 8 out of 10 from me.
Blue Beetle (2023)
Blue Beetle is DC's Marvel Clone Film
I enjoyed Blue Beetle. Mostly because of George Lopez and the great performance by Miguel from Cobra Kai. The main reason I liked it though was because it reminded me of other movies I like.
If you take Spider-Man and Iron Man and mix those films in a blender and pour them into a drink in Mexico and fly them to Florida in a fancy jet and drink it with Susan Sarandon while watching The George Lopez show you get this movie.
Nothing is really original here but it reminds you of what made those films great and provides you with a fun experience along the way.
Nothing is really wrong with this movie, it just doesn't add anything fresh but it's still exciting and entertaining.
One of DC's best movies because it borrows from successful Marvel films.
Vacation Friends 2 (2023)
Why was this made?
Vacation Friends was such a great movie. I laughed until I cried it was so funny. Every character served a purpose and the jokes kept coming non stop and you couldn't help but laugh and get invested in the 4 lead characters.
None of that happens here. Vacation Friends 2 manages to make all 4 lead characters you previously liked very unlikable. Then they add Steve Buscemi who manages to be the worst character in the movie.
There were a few laughs in the film, most of which were in the trailer. They built so long to the ashes joke but since the punchline was in the trailer the whole sequence fell flat for me.
Normally I'd call this type of sequel a cash cow but since it's a direct to Hulu film I can't even call it that. I'm not sure why this was made but it definitely should have stayed unmade.
If you want to laugh with these characters re watch the original and if you want to feel let down and disappointed that's the only way I'd recommend this sequel. I gave it 5-10 cause of my love for the characters from the first movie and the movie itself was average and could have been worse.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
The NOT SO Super Mario Bros Movie
I wanted to love this movie. I really did. Unlike many I still find some good in the 90's Mario movie but I've always wanted a proper Mario movie.
This is not that movie. I saw this first in the theater in 3D and the 3D was fantastic and all the Easter eggs and nostalgic gems to find made it a fun experience..... for a little while.
I fell asleep twice in the theater and had to be woken up by my friends and even when I try to watch this again on streaming I still find myself falling asleep.
Without the fun of finding the nostalgic Easter eggs the movie itself just isn't good. Granted they made this for kids and kids are enjoying it but for a movie us adults waited 30 years for it's a very huge disappointment.
It's an average movie but the story is just non existent and having Luigi play the damsel in distress scaredy cat just doesn't work for me.
Jack Black makes a good Bowser but his menacing demeanor is completely lost with his obsession for Peach.
I love Illumination films and I love Mario Bros so this seemed like a can't miss and like I said watching in 3d was fun for a while til I fell asleep but the fact I get no enjoyment out of rewatches means I'll stick to the mediocre 90's film since that's still enjoyable for me at least. 5-10 from me.
