Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Marvel indoctrination movie
I miss the time when Marvel made movies to entertain us instead to indoctrinate us with diversity ideology. A Latin kid with two mothers, give me a break.
Also, it isn't enough anymore to watch all the Marvel movies to understand the story. No, now the audience is expected to watch the streaming stuff on Disney+, too. If you haven't seen the series WandaVision on Disney+, you will have a hard time to understand Doctor Strange 2. I know all the previous movies, but I don't watch Disney+ and now I don't understand the new movies anymore. This is unacceptable!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Another Marvel indoctrination movie
I miss the time when Marvel made movies to entertain us instead to indoctrinate us with diversity ideology. At the London premiere Q&A, in response to the question "How gay will the film be?" the director said "super gay". This gives you an idea what the priorities of these people are. Same as in Doctor Strange 2.
Also this movie is way too goofy, Gods are portrayed as jokes here. I love Natalie Portman and Christian Bale, but I hate this director/writer, he doesn't understand the material and simply lacks the talent.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
Mindless and embarrassing garbage movie, play good Sonic games instead!
If you are still in kindergarten, then this movie will probably entertain you. But if you are adult with at least average intelligence, you will shake your head. It's insulting to your intelligence, because the storylines and jokes are so stupid. By the way, I love the Sonic games (the good ones: the Genesis games, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Mania, etc.), but I can't enjoy this movie, neither as a movie viewer nor as a Sonic fan.
Basically, everything in this movie, which is not animated, sucks. Jim Carrey here is simply not funny, just hysterical and childish. The other actors play boring characters, have embarrassing dialogue and pointless storylines. Sometimes it hasn't anything to do with Sonic.
Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are in environments and situations, which make no sense at all for these characters. It just feels totally wrong. For example, they are in a pub full of weird hermit Russians, a fish gets his head chopped off, stupid "dance battles". What the hell is that? It's not Sonic, just an abomination from the bottom of Hollywood.
Any positive aspects? Maybe a few minutes of mindless action scenes, but even that cannot be enjoyed, because it's interrupted by bad dialogue, an unfunny Jim Carrey or some other nonsense.
Play the classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 instead, one of the best games ever. Don't waste your time and money for this garbage movie. The audience score here seems to be manipulated, it should be much lower.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (2020)
Good action, but very rushed story
The action scenes are impressive, Johnny is funny and the fatalities are entertaining. However, there are problems with the story:
- The story is really rushed. I know shorter movies, which don't feel rushed. They put too much stuff in here. Some iconic characters appear only for a very short time, therefore are superficial.
- Fists against bullets make no sense at all.
- The rules of Mortal Kombat tournament seem to be broken without consequence.
- Brutality belongs to MK of course, but in some scenes feels out of place. For example when Liu Kang, who is supposed to be good, kills like a psychopath.
The cinematic story mode of the recent MK games are of much higher quality than this. The 1995 MK film is much better.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Disgusting animal cruelty
How sick and disturbed are we as a society that a movie, where real animal cruelty is portrayed, is celebrated as a masterpiece? Here you see a real buffalo slaughtered and beheaded. Francis Coppola is an overrated psychopath and Apocalypse Now is worthless garbage because animals are killed so horribly for this. Avoid this disgrace, don't support animal killings.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Read the comicbooks instead
I love Marvel and I love the characters of Venom, Carnage and Shriek. I also hate this movie, because it's garbage, just like the first movie. Here some good advice: Instead of wasting your money for this trash movie, buy the comicbook "Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage" instead. All important characters from this movie are there, but good!
Everything what is wrong in Hollywood, you have present in this abomination of a movie:
- They try to copy Deadpool, but the humor is not funny, just silly in a stupid way.
- PG-13, what a joke. Especially with Carnage, who belongs in a R-rated movie.
- In the comicbooks, Carnage already is very deadly. But in a bad movie like this one, everything has to be "more". So Carnage is bigger and has all these tentacles (like Doctor Octopus), but bigger is not better. At one point, he spins like a tornado, like the God of Wind Fujin from Mortal Kombat. Ridiculous, these writers don't even understand what his powers are.
- Bad editing. The cuts are so fast that it's difficult to see what's going on.
- Not faithful to the source material, but diversity quota. In the comicbooks, the skin of Shriek is snow-white. Noami Harris is great, but they don't make any effort to make her look like Shriek, because of far-left ideology.
Great characters and good actors wasted, because of greedy producers, bad screenplay and bad director/editor.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Marvel ruins the Mandarin again (and Shang-Chi, too)
**Spoilers for Shang-Chi and Iron Man 3**
The Mandarin is one of Marvels most iconic vilains. He is the arch enemy of Iron Man, like Joker is the arch enemy of Batman. In Iron Man 3, they made a total joke of the Mandarin. A fine actor, Ben Kingsley, was wasted for a bad caricature of Mandarin.
The Shang-Chi movie ruins the Mandarin again. Because this movie was made by left-wing liberals who preach political correctness. Because they wanted to avoid anything which might be offensive or racist. Let me ask you, what is racist about an Asian man wearing traditional Asian clothes? And what is racist about an Asian man with long hair and beard? Exactly, absolutely nothing. That's how the Mandarin looks like in the comicbooks. In this movie, he has short hair, Western everyday clothes, looking like a random regular guy (boring), totally different name. Also, in the comicbooks, each of his rings has its own power, that means ten different powers. In this movie, all rings have the same power, so not even that is done right. In conclusion, this Mandarin has nothing to do with the original.
By the way, this movie ruins Shang-Chi, too. He gets god-like powers, he could defeat the mighty Thor. Why??? Shang-Chi is a tribute to Bruce Lee, he doesn't have superpowers, martial arts is his skill. Why not making great martial arts movies with Shang-Chi instead of CGI superpower blockbuster stuff?
People who gave high ratings for this movie don't know the source material, so they cannot judge.
Chato's Land (1972)
Real animal cruelty, don't watch
I was never so disgusted with a movie, because there is real slaughtering of animals here and animals suffered in the making of this movie:
- A chicken gets its head slowly cut off. I thought the chicken was dead before, but another person I was watching this movie with said that it was moving. Either way, it's sick and cruel. I have no appetite for meat anymore after seeing this.
- A dead goat hanged upside down is disembowelled, close-up of the knife cutting the goat.
- A snake is disembowelled, you see the guts.
- You see dead horses lying around.
- As typical in many Westerns, horses are falling, some brutally.
When I watch a movie I want to be entertained, not disgusted and traumatized by real-life violence against animals. Also, no animal should be killed or suffer for the making of a movie. The plot doesn't matter anymore at this point, I would give zero stars, but unfortunately I'm forced to give at least one.
Venom (2018)
Could have been a masterpiece, but is just underwhelming
What's positive:
Tom Hardy is perfect for the role and gives a great performance. Venom's appearance and powers are faithfully adapted. An extreme improvement over the Spider-Man 3 (2007) version of Venom who didn't look like Eddie Brock or Venom.
What's negative:
This movie was made by a director and studio guys who a.) don't care much about the source material, b.) don't understand the source material and c.) are driven by greed.
A Venom movie done right would be R-rated, because Venom is no hero, but he is very dark and kills a lot of people. Also it would have Carnage as the antagonist, because this is the best and most iconic villain. There would be no forced comedy and no forced romance.
The Venom movie we got:
- A washed down kid-friendly PG-13. Venom bites off heads, but I didn't see it, I only know because he says that he did. Haven't they learned anything from Deadpool and Logan? A PG-13 Venom is like a PG-13 Sin City. Doesn't make any sense. The director said the violence here would push the PG-13 to the limit. That's a lie, nothing pushed here.
- The villain here is a total minor character in the comicbooks, almost no one has heard of him. Why not Carnage??
- The symbiote talks and what he says is ridiculous, really silly. If aliens talk, then not like that. The comedy is totally forced and not funny, just a desperate attempt to copy Marvel Studios.
- Pointless romance, because the studio think that helps to sell the movie to women.
- Bad editing. The fight scenes at the end are cut so fast that it's difficult to recognize what happens.
- Venom seems to be 2,50 m big. In the comicbooks he is 2,00 m I guess, but in bad Hollywood movies everything must be bigger. Bigger is not better. 2,00 m is big enough, don't you think.
This movie is not as bad as garbage like Fantastic Four (2015). It has good aspects, but it could be so much more.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Destroying Star Wars mythology, but making money!
This movie destroys the Star Wars mythology and especially the character of Luke Skywalker. That's not Luke, because he is completely out of character. He says things that he would never say and does things he would never do. It's an insult and disrespect to the original trilogy and to Mark Hamill. It was written by an incompetent nobody called Rian Johnson who knows nothing about Star Wars (just look at his PATHETIC filmography before Star Wars, ok? Why did he get the job??? Nobody had heard of him). But the movie is a commercial hit. Why? Because 1.) nowadays explosions impress the audience more than a good story, 2.) the power of marketing, you can make a good trailer from a bad movie and 3.) people can't think for themselves anymore and listen to film critics who are failed wannabe filmmakers. This is the Disney Star Wars continuity, it's non-canon to me.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
My very low expectations have been underwhelmed!
The pros: I liked the music. Good CGI.
The cons: The story of the movie is a total mess. It's really the most confusing of all five. I see all this action and ask myself "What the f**k is happening and why?". Most characters are annoying and silly (I call them "Jar Jar Binks characters"). Is it so hard to write a good story, especially when it has been done before in the animated series??? Enough of farting robots and all this silly nonsense, just watch the awesome 80s Transformers series and Transformers Armada to see how much potential is has! Not only the Transformers potential is wasted here, but also the potential of the actors like the great Anthony Hopkins who does the best with what is given to him.
Conclusion: The best and only good Transformers movie still is the animated "Transformers: The Movie (1986)".
Shin Gojira (2016)
Masterpiece!
Spoiler-free:
I hope that more people outside of Japan watch and appreciate this movie, because it's a masterpiece and far exceeded my high expectations! I saw it in a German cinema and was blown away!
I saw the US-movie Godzilla (2014) before and I liked that movie very much too, but I love this Japanese version even more. They are different movies, very different stories and a very different Godzilla. However, in this Japanese movie I found Godzilla even more threatening and dangerous, also I love the unique filmmaking style (retro and modern at the same time). I encourage everyone who liked the US-Godzilla movie or just likes great movies in general to watch this one.
This movie is also a perfect example that you don't need a huge budget to make an awesome movie. The budget was far smaller than for the US version (I couldn't believe!), but you wouldn't guess that, because Godzilla's devastation is epic, the actors are great, the direction is fantastic, etc.
This movie was made by people who love Godzilla and understand what makes a great movie and it shows. Don't miss it!
Logan (2017)
Perfect Wolverine movie and for me one of the best movies of all time!
Spoiler-free
As a huge fan of the Wolverine comicbooks and of movies in general I can honestly say this without any overstatement: This is not only the perfect Wolverine movie I have waited for, this is one of the best movies I have seen in my life and I have seen much! I'm so happy that they finally did a R-rated Wolverine, not PG-13. The story is a masterpiece and great performances from a very talented cast. The movie is 100 % faithful to the source material and I think it's even better. I always enjoyed Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but this movie is really not to top.
Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)
Lifeless, unemotional characters
Spoiler-free review (except who the 2-3 main characters are, no surprise)
The characters in this movie are as artificial and lifeless as the CGI graphics, at least Leon. There is no emotional connection between Leon and Claire after all they have gone through together in the RE 2 game. Leon has no emotions as all. I like him in the game RE 2 & 4, but here he is so hollow, stiff and superficial, not a human being.
Claire is more authentic, but do you remember Sherry in RE 2? Guess what, in this movie she is babysitting again, but this time the little girl is Indian (or Black, I don't remember). So they copied the same subplot from RE 2, but just changed the race of Sherry. Wow, how creative. No, it's pathetic.
The only good thing that can be said about this movie is that the CGI graphics are very good. But that doesn't matter much, because we have a garbage story and a soulless main character. And the story is not a continuation of the games, in RE 4 we had no T-Virus anymore and now it's just the same old stuff with T-Virus again.
For gamers who like this movie: Stop sitting in your room and go outside, interact with real human beings. You will see the difference between real humans and these unemotional CGI characters here.
Suicide Squad (2016)
Just make a Batman movie with Joker & Harley!
Spoiler free review:
I'm a huge fan of comic books, so I know the characters from the source material. Normally it's easy for me to say if I like or dislike a comic book movie. In this case, I do both:
PRO:
I absolutely love the new Joker and Harley Quinn!! Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are stunning, their performances are incredible and they absolutely own all scenes they appear in. Leto had very big shoes to fill after Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, but his Joker is very different and perfect in his own unique way. Robbie as Harley is also perfect, she really nails the character, this is exactly how Harley is supposed to be. Also praise to the designers who reinvented Joker for this movie.
CONTRA:
1.) This movie is like a meal with ingredients which doesn't belong together, like ice cream on pizza. On one hand we have Joker, Harley, Deadshot, etc. who have no superpowers, realistic characters. On the other side we have a crazy "The world is in danger" plot with supernatural elements and characters with god-like powers. It just doesn't fit together.
2.) The movie wastes Harley and especially Joker. Harley's origin was too rushed and they cut too many Joker scenes out. I understand why Jared Leto is frustrated about this. Joker's relationship to Harley is supposed to be abusive, here it's too romantic.
3.) This movie should be R-Rated!!! It's PG-13, because of the greed of the studio bosses.
4.) These are supposed to be criminals, psychopaths, bad guys. No anti-heroes. With the marketing line "Worst heroes ever" I already feared they make them to anti-heroes and especially Deadshot is just too nice. And why has Deadshot almost never his mask on?? Oh right, because it's Will Smith, superstars don't want to wear masks, so everyone can see their famous face (sarcasm!). Then leave the movie, for god's sake! That's not really Deadshot, that's Will Smith.
5.) Some characters deserved better, like Enchantress and Captain Boomerang. The actors did a great job, but screenplay could have been better for them. Rick Flag and Amanda Waller are just boring leaders, especially Waller.
CONCLUSION: Just make a Batman movie with Leto's Joker and Robbie's Harley, the only perfect aspects of this movie. Don't waste them for a cheesy supernatural plot. I give Joker & Harley a 10/10, the rest of the movie a 4/10.
