Living Space (2018)
Better Than The Revies Given Here
This is a talented director in his first outing with a full length movie. There were some real problems with the filming (goofs) and the writing. The director needed a firm guiding hand from the producer to take this to the next level.
I was genuinely creeped out by most of the scenes and suspense in the house. The Groundhog Day concept worked really well to add another layer but was never really brought to a poper conclusion. The very final scene needed to eliminated. The Nazi angle was unnecessary and a distraction.
But again, I was genuinely creeped out every time one of the protagonists were in the house. That is a skill that I hope this writer/director brings into full bloom in the near future.
From Paris with Love (2010)
Sad Homage to the French New Wave
I suppose that if you really, really believe that all you need to make a movie is a girl, a car and a gun, this is your movie. But I am tired of action movies that betray any sense of reality without going full fantasy, like "The Fifth Element". For instance, John Trivolta shooting a machine gun sideways - with one hand. Or a diplomat refusing to turn her convoy around when warned of danger. And so on and and on ...
Sadly, it has very interesting concept for a story. The imagery was stunning. The lead actors were well suited for their roles and performed well.
But Beeson decided to indulge himself - and lose a lot of money while doing so.
Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)
Loved it
I am a huge film nior fan, and I love this movie.
Denzel Washington and the rest of the cast are stellar. Kudos to the directorof photography and the producion designer. The director got all his money on the screen while obtaining excellent performances.
I have watched it several times and think I have found its one fatal flaw - Jennifer Beals. While Ms. Beals is very attractive and a good actress, she is not the femme fatale this movie needs. This story has several men going nuts over this character. Ms. Beals is not that kind of woman..
There was a missed opportunity with Ms. Beal"s character when she was dumped by her rich boyfrind. That was a missed opprtunity for a dramatic high point.
Cat Run (2011)
A Hot Wet Mess
This movie was fun, but the plot was a hot wet mess. Were Catalina Rona and Helen Bingham the protagonists, or were Alphonso McAuley and Scott Mechlowicz the protagonists? Either way would have been fin. I would have chosen the former.
Thanks to Ms. Vega and Ms. McTeer (and a bevy of beautiful nude women), I could not take my eyes off the individual scenes. I did not know whom I was pulling for.
A more sure-handed director would have made the necessary changes to the script and made a gem.
