Spotlight (2015)
Robust Drama
Formidable representation of true facts recounted in a poignant manner. One of the few movies of the year that actually have a meaningful background that captivates the spectator and denounces major issues of society that are kept concealed by certain institutions. It is also made clear that these issues have a cause and can be dealt with and should not be normalized. The script also clears the fact that there is no link to the faith itself but is due to the irresponsibility of man-made institutions. The remarkable tenacity of the journalists is also underlined in their battle against an untouchable institution in the name of justice. A slight critic would be the strong accent which in some moments may be misunderstood, also the large number of names which are expressed are sometimes confusing. All the main actors play their roles tremendously especially Mark Ruffalo who proves his outstanding talent already known, also Rachel Mcadams who is captivating as usual.Overall a great watch, concentration is needed to be fully aware of all the facts.
Jodaeiye Nader az Simin (2011)
A thrilling introduction to Iranian Cinema
Right from the first scene with the camera offering the spectators point of view, I was plunged into this drama. The actors performed superbly convincing us of the authenticity of the story but also keeping us engaged. Leila Hatami in her role had a certain aura in her stare which was captivating. Important themes of Iranian's are showed such as devotion to religion and family values with the strong affection the main character and even his daughter show for the grandfather to the point that the father is prepared to abandon 14years of relationship with his wife. Another remarking fact is that I could not force my self to take sides, for Nader or Razieh who lost her child, even though we get some truths such as Razieh's confession or Termeh's intuitive thinking. In this way I felt engaged asking myself who to trust or believe. Finally the mystery of the final scene is an astute technique by the director to give the decision to the spectator to whom they think should get the daughter. If watching in a group spectators can arise this question and even debate.
Gilda (1946)
Review from an unfrequent viewer of the genre.
At the end of the movie, one main thought struck to the mind among many others; the power of jealousy which makes Johnny hate Gilda and Gilda hate Johnny even though they share immense love.
Gilda seems like a strong woman with an overwhelming charm showing everyone that she does not have much emotions and she has married a man she does not love for his wealth. We in fact discover that she has a weakness when she is confronted to her feelings for Johnny, her ex-partner.
Johnny at the start of the movie captivates the spectator with his smartness and sharpness in the way he acts and talks. But is puzzled and his facial expression is changed at the arrival of Gilda, he is separated between his loyalty for Ballin who has made him his partner and the revival of his feelings for Gilda.
A great addition to my favorite black and white movies,I will give score this movie an 8 not higher than that maybe because the previous one was "Grapes of wrath". :)
La French (2014)
"Un Chef d'oeuvre"
A fairly truthful representation of an actual event that occurred in the city of Marseilles.Even though a lot of facts are edited and added for the dramatic aspect of the movie it clearly paints a magnificent image of the city in the 1970's when the ruling mafia was not like the bandit-ism of today but a far more elegant and sophisticated type. The typical accent of a "marseillais" (person from Marseilles) is heard and is very accurate, Jean Dujardin plays his role superbly as the detective and proves his caliber as on of the best french actors in the current industry. Overall a flawless production, the spectator is captivated all along and his heart beats for the main characters risky path towards breaking down the "French Connection".
