AfterLife (2003)
8/10
Scottish Film with a lot of Heart.
6 June 2016
I must admit I am getting on a bit but I enjoyed this film. OK you can knock it for many reasons, but if you just go with the flow it makes great sense. Cancer and learning difficulties do not seem go well together but with all the troubles and challenges, it seems to tell an uplifting and funny at times, story to me. I felt that it came together well enough to be a very satisfying view. I do love stories that involve Glasgow scenes. Spotted many places that I know. Even the old favourites like Saltmarket worked well. Thanks to all involved. Great Monday night film. Give it a try see if you agree. As I have to write another few lines I will say that Kevin and Lyndsay played their characters very well and were very convincing.

Blade Runner (1982)

A seminal film. Life changing as well for me.

This was one of those films that you come out of the cinema thinking. My life has changed. I say this for many reasons. The technology. Way ahead of its time. The story, the emotion the whole thing is just so good to experience. The visuals. The future. I am struggling with language to explain it. Elvis costello said that writing about music is like dancing about architecture. I know what he meant. I saw this many years ago and have only written about it now because of IMDb. Thanks to everyone involved in the film. Made me a better person. (OK maybe a bit much, sorry). To expand. The look of the future was rainy and messy. The people were a bit 'piraty' if you see what I mean. I only do eyes is one of the iconic lines. There are so many wonderful things in the film that stay in the mind. The future is here. Hacking into the 'system' is what today is all about. Hipsters, hackers, anonymous, pirate bay, offworld. Spanglish, international co-operation. Big business domination etc. etc. it is all there. Love it.

Puppy Love (2014– )
7/10
Reasonably funny and quite moving sometimes.

I finally caught up with this recently, as watched Getting On and got the jokes eventually in that series. This is kind of the same type of thing in that it is a bit difficult to categorise as comedy or comedy drama or whatever but has some very funny and touching scenes which caught me out as did Getting on. I liked the physical comedy and absurd story lines with ridiculous over the top main leads putting in great performances. Overall worth watching for the lovely Wirral scenery and many well known guests as well as quite a lot of running gags and some not so obvious social comment. Joanna is a natural comic and is not afraid to put herself in outrageous and embarrassing situations to get a laugh. Seems to have a bit of a fixation with Pooh jokes though ! A mixed bag but I really enjoyed it.

A bit of a weepy but feel good as well.

This is my first review so be gentle guys. I like Bill Murray from way back as he is a different kind of American actor. By that I mean he tries to be special and meaningful in his own interpretation of his roles. They are not stereotypes in any way. Anyway, in this film at the beginning he portrays a grumpy old guy who only cares about himself but as the film unfolds various aspects of his life are revealed. The young actor who portrays his neighbour helps him to become who he really is and was. It is a great film if you like family and relationship dramas with a bit of light hearted comedy. I enjoyed the movie so I'll leave it there and let you decide for yourself. Melissa McCarthy is a revelation from her usual smart ass role and is very moving as the single mother. Bit of a two tissue one for me.
