Rare Exports (2010)
I love a good Scandinavian Yuletide
I flipping love this movie. It's so well done. It's actually believable! I have never lived in Finland, but I did live in Denmark, and I actually met guys like these. Hard men like Rauno who make gingerbread in their long johns. People who live in houses like that. It's so realistic.
The acting is phenomenal. The scene where Rauno is feeding Pietari gingerbread and trying to hide the fact that he's crying is truly beautiful. Aimo speaking English trying to get info out of the elf is so funny. Pietari crying and telling his dad that it's his fault the reindeer are dead is perfect. Piiparinen's anguished shout when Pietari jumps is gut wrenching. And the training of the new Santas? Chef's kiss.
I watch this movie every December and I never get tired of it.
Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt (2019)
So good
This episode was a great cap to the season. I know some people didn't care for the musical interlude, but as someone who LOVES the movie it came from, my nerd heart was charmed. Billy found redemption at the end. The acting, as always was phenomenal. But can't Joyce catch a flipping break? Come on now! Please let Hopper not actually be dead. Poor Joyce, and poor, poor El.
Stranger Things: Chapter Two: The Mall Rats (2019)
Poor rats, but...
Of course Mr. Clarke is a Weird Al fan! I'm so happy with this season so far. The '80s pop reference are so spot on. I love it!
