The Walking Dead: World Beyond: Shadow Puppets (2020)
A step in the right direction...
Finally what I've been waiting for in this show. Conflict. The kids actually get some experience with the biggest threat in this world, other people. The new characters were a nice addition (and pretty good actors) and there were some nice jump scares and a decent story. These kids are still too naive though, but I think that's the point. They're learning as they're out in the world. The only reason I can't score this higher is because the inexperience of the actor playing Silas REALLY shows. There were also some questionable moments with the actress playing Iris, but nowhere near as bad. Now if they can just ditch Silas, coach "Iris" a little, and fix Huck's accent then this show may be redeemable. Everything else is fine by me. Definitely the best episode of the series so far.
The X Factor: Celebrity (2019)
Simply awful
So basically, the worst singers are being kept to the end. The "public vote" is a joke. There's literally about a two minute window for the voting and every week since the live shows started, one of the best acts, or acts with the most potential are sent home. They CLAIM the first out is because of the vote but anyone with a brain can see it's the producers calling the shots. Then the second person is decided by the judges. So week 1 they have Olivia, who is, by a mile one of the best individual singers in the competition, in the bottom with this Martin guy (obviously the worst) and the judges give Olivia the boot. The second week, same thing. Two of the singers with the most potential in the bottom with Martin and Martin is safe again.... Yeah ok. Week three Martin is finally out because of "the public vote", then the judges are left with No Love Lost (the BEST group and one of the top two performances of the night) and V5 (a wannabe Fifth Harmony who lets face it, are pretty awful in comparison) So, what do the judges do? Naturally they get rid of one of the better acts the show still had, in hopes of shoving another mediocre girl group down our throats. The absolute worst part about the show is this trio of rugby players and redheaded lady I've never heard of are obviously being favored and I can't figure out why. The guys are so bad. So flat. So predictable. It's like a few friends who never sang before thought "hey, lets go talk the lyrics to some songs from magic mike on Xfactor" and that's exactly what they're doing. And the redheaded lady literally sounds like a dying whale. I've never heard someone be so off pitch in my life but these two acts continue to be praised for no apparent reason. There's only two contestants who can actually sing left, Megan Something Another who is usually amazing with a flat note here and there, and Kevin McHale who keeps picking the worst songs possible. Logically they SHOULD be the top two but I will not be surprised if they're the next to go.... because they don't play rugby.
Basically this show is overproduced trash
Looking (2014)
I adore this show!
As a gay man, this show is so moving. It doesn't give us the usual stereotypes of what people think gay men are like, but rather what real gay men, and real people are. It is beautifully written, and the acting is just incredible. As a man approaching thirty, I relate so much to the characters and their struggles with love, friendship, and life. One of the best, and most realistic, series I have seen on television in a long time. Each character was so different from the next. All struggling with their own issues, and learning to cope with all the curve balls life throws at you. By far my favorite show on TV during its run. I highly recommend it to any gay man or woman, or anyone trying to understand our community a little better. We're more than what the media makes us out to be. We are human. And this show showed that unlike any other.
