The Gray Man (2022)
We bought a drone
This should really have been called "We bought a drone". The first drone shot was novel but it was really overused in parts. Some of the fast action set pieces were poorly edited and it was difficult to follow it all.
I don't know why it's so difficult to get quality films from Netflix productions considering the money they put behind them. No issues with the acting but it's just an average action film and not one I would want to re-watch soon. Disappointing.
The Rising (2022)
Drags on for too long
Enjoyable enough but by episode 5 I just wanted to skip the rest and just watch the finale. It's definitely not a 10/10 by any reach.
It started off well but for me the secondary characters weren't on the same level as Neve and her mother.
Black Widow (2021)
Good to see another Marvel film but not one of the best.
I had a gripe from the opening credits....
We expected to watch Black Widow last year so whoever likes the MCU already knew who was in the film apart from..... Olga Kurylenko. Her name was one of the first to appear on screen so I immediately knew she was Taskmaster; a famous actress who isn't seen, it was obvious. I know we live in different times but when Se7en was released Kevin Spacey's name was nowhere to be seen so it was a genuine surprise when he first appeared on screen.
When they land in Cuba towards the start... What on earth was that shoddy CGI?!? It looked like a toy plane landing at speed.
Ray Winstone's accent was awful and it distracted me from any perceivable malevolence.
The red room being a hovering station was a horrible reveal, I mean, nobody questions jets appearing in mid-air anytime someone needs to go somewhere?
I thought the final 20 minutes we were being spoon-fed everything from the pheromones mean you can't attack him... Cue scene insert 'OK guys, in case you didn't get it... I'm going to break my nose so I can hit him' To the 'he controls everything from that room but you still have to access the mainframe". All felt like an old school James Bond ending to the film without a threat to the world.
