The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
New, yet nostalgic, cinematic experience
Reading the novel before the movie was the perfect choice! The movie honors Collin's captivating writing.
Knowing the world from the original series made the cinematic choices exciting, which speaks to the whole production team's thoughtfulness. The capitol's depiction is beyond what I pictured in my mind while reading.
Davis and Blyth kept me GLUED to the screen by their acting performances and on screen appearance - props to their makeup, hair, and wardrobe team!
Jason did a great Lucky in this serious movie - it is commendable to bring humor to a dystopian world!
I enjoyed going to the movies with my fellow Hunger Game fan friends (even though we really missed Peeta)! It brought back great memories!
Single All the Way (2021)
A great pick me up
This was one of the only Christmas movie I watched this season (2022). I see it as a CHRISTMAS MOVIE and not trying to reinvent the wheel of romantic comedy Christmas storytelling. I could relate to the main character's (Urie) struggle of wanting to try to make it in the city, and also wanting to move back home. That struggle was not overly hyped up, so it was really watchable. The family was not very dynamic, besides Coolidge, so the humor needed to be turned up to meet her level more often. The chemistry seemed a little forced between Urie and Macfarlene and also Chambers, but I also like how that played into Urie's character not knowing what he wanted, so maybe he needed to be a little uncomfortable. The photo shoot sessions were a fun twist on the fun "winter" activities that happen in most Xmas flicks. I wouldn't mind a little more depth and tension between supporting characters, but, then again, it was a pleasant Christmas movie watching experience.
Ali Wong: Don Wong (2022)
I couldn't stop watching!
Ali is a gifted comedy writer! Initially, her comedy seems to be low brow only, but as she continues, her jokes add up to a delightful and vulnerable treat. I must say I also feel a bit better about being single, but maybe not?! Gotta watch and decide!
