I've seen much worse movies than this. A quite good storyline, well acted by a strong cast. I suppose the plot holes are no worse than the majority of Hollywood's output. I just wish they'd stop people being able to hot-wire modern cars. You can't, plainly and simply.

The Brokenwood Mysteries

Really love this. Lots of dry Kiwi humour

I'm a long-term Aussie expat in London, so enjoy TV from Down Under when I can get it. This has popped up on a digital channel in last few years and I watch it whenever I can. Even my English wife can survive it. Have now got my Aussie relatives watching some on Telstra streaming service. They seem to like it also.
First Love
(2021)
Another worthly and complex drama

I'm not Japanese, not do I speak the language. But, I really enjoyed this. I spotted it on an ANA flight and was attracted by the actress Keiko Katagawa being in the cast. I saw her in stolen identity from 2018. I was not disappointed.
How to Steal a Million
(1966)
Very enjoyable indeed. Lovely escapism.

Have never seen these 2 leads together before, but they worked very well. Supported by an excellent cast. The story might be a little far fetched, but still enjoyable and entertaining. Audrey Hepburn is the epitome of chic and class. I don't think any actress could touch her. O'Toole plays the "villain" superbly.
The Ambushers
(1967)
Utterly brilliant parody of James Bond-era films

Having seen a few Matt Helm films, I agree with the producers ideas that the only way then to "compete" with James Bond was to parody the genre. This is one the better ones. Dino is excellent as the lead and the supporting ladies are certainly up to scratch! I suspect as one reviewer noted, this might well have been on Mike Meyer's list of inspirations when dreaming up Austin Powers.
The Brothers Grimsby
(2016)
Yes very stupid and very funny.

I like Sacha Baron Cohen's work in general and this is still keeping up the standard set by Ali G all those years ago. Amazed who he got to star in this, like Penelope Cruz! Very silly but not a bad spy spoof and the ludicrous actions scenes aren't vastly more so than what Hollywood dishes up these days.
Mary Poppins Returns
(2018)
Why did they bother?
30 December 2018
When the original is so iconic, why bother? I can't say I was annoyed by any of the cast particularly, but my overall impression is so-so. Sadly,I would say none of the songs is anything outstanding and I can't one of them, less than 12 hours ago. Some aspects of the depiction of the children is wrong for the era, like when daughter phones the plumber.
Joan of Arc
(1999)
US TV parody of history
9 September 2018
If you had tried very hard to make a parody of how US TV might desecrate a piece of classic European history, this is it. Joan's clothing is mostly highly inaccurate and in-appropriate. Only natural fibres existed in 15th century. No Lycra. And Neil Patrick Harris is the most mis-cast person as a monarch I have ever seen. Total crap!!!!
