Jack & Diane (2012)
Film School Failure - NOT werewolves at all
This is unfocused, vague, baffling and just gross. The 'werewolf' things are nothing of the sort. They look like large infected hairy caterpillars with claws/teeth. Beyond that it's one clichéd after school special plot twist after another. Just heaping more and more damage onto the characters for no purpose other than to do it. The equating of 'werewolfism' with lesbian sexuality/love is massively gross. This movie is just a mess and utterly pointless. It doesn't even work as like 'character study' sort of thing. It's just...stupid. The inexplicable fake hair running over/writhing around bones and organs at moments that made sense to someone adds nothing to the story. It ends up coming across as some sort of fetish for hair on bone/organ which is disturbing.
Spy (2015)
Heck of a good time
I had a fantastic time watching this movie. I think Ms. McCarthy has finally found the perfect groove for her brand of humor. The movie was funny, exciting, a little gorier than expected and just a raunchy good time. I sincerely hope there are more of these in the works because I would watch hours and hours of Susan Cooper kicking ass and creatively insulting people.
I was genuinely pleased with the action scenes, they were very well done. Jason Statham was utterly hilarious which was a nice revelation. Jude Law with an American accent is a little creepy though.
There were kids at our showing, like under 10, and I think that's a wee young considering the cussing, gore and brief flashes of frontal male nudity. There were also a lot of senior citizens there too. I'm a little in awe of the breadth of ages that were there.
Anyway, funny from start to finish, definitely stay for the post credits scene. I can't wait for the DVD.
Sense8 (2015)
Even better than I hoped it would be
I had very, very high expectations for this show. I've never been so anxious for a new show to come out. From start to finish and at every point along the way this show more than met those expectations, it blew them away. The transitions from one person to the next, one scene to the next were exquisitely done every time. The way each sensate connected with the others, what they were able to help each other with emotionally and physically was masterfully done. Nothing felt inevitable, at each point there felt like there was genuine risk to each of them. I love this show. I literally stayed up from midnight until noon watching each episode one after the other. And tonight, when I get home from shopping, I'm gonna do it again but with friends. This satisfied me on so many levels. Genre, plot, gender, race, sexuality. I care so much for each of the eight and I love how they all complement each other. They are amazing. This show is amazing. The editing, the directing, the writing, the acting, the chemistry between the eight....just perfect. I can't wait to watch it again and again and again.
