Moon Knight (2022)
Fascinating & compelling
I do not have any history with Moon Knight, aside from playing his character on a game. I just watched & reviewed Obi-Wan, lacking any heart & soul. Well, Moon Knight is ALL heart & soul, two very grounded excellent performances by Oscar Isaac & Ethan Hawke. Great pacing, interesting & compelling writing, fantastic production values & cinematography. What a surprise to me that this is such a fantastic & enjoyable series. Has some quite intense dark themes of inner psyche, the battles both inner & outer. A gripping, twisted telling of the confused human mind. Steeped in a rich soup of historical mythology. Did I mention the perfectly matched & highly enjoyable music throughout. Subtle when needed rising to such a powerful compliment. This is everything Obi-Wan should have been but isn't.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Where's the heart?!
I was really looking forward to Obi-Wan. I love Mandalorian & Boba Fett.
Obi-Wan is very slick & looks great. Reasonably well acted. That's where the positives stop. The music seems disjointed & seems to emphasise the lack of any soul in this soap opera series. The music style goes back to the orchestral Star Wars movie feel, not the cool Mandalorian space western vibe. The only problem is that there aren't any strong recurring musical themes, so it just sounds like the producers bought the music to "off the rack", and said "That'll do" The editing is strange & badly paced. The cinematography is a little odd & inconsistent. Sometimes the slow zoom close-up hangs for that two seconds too long, then other times awkward wide shot from a not great angle. Maybe going for a new style? Didn't come off as confident & coherent. The writing is, in places, simply awful. Cringeworthy. The script in other places is boring. The choreography for the final fight scene between two bad guys is horrible. Who thought rolling around on the ground as an attack was going to work well on film?! The bad guy underlings are laughable, especially that strained growl. Sort of like a Batman growl, but obviously the director or sound guy kept saying, "Growl louder! We can't hear what you're saying!". The result is forced and unrealistic.
I've just binge watched Obi-Wan, & unlike the Mandalorian & Boba Fett, (which I have rewatched multiple times), I won't be revisiting unfortunately.
Mr Inbetween (2018)
Excellent series, absolute gold
A roller coaster of extreme, to extremely normal, kind hearted to cruel. So tenderly honestly warm to visciously ice cold.
Some of the most accurate and hilarious parenting scenes ever portrade on screen.
So very Ozzie. I know people like most of these characters, though no hitmen that I know of.
The Thin Red Line (1998)
Over rated.
Others seem to think this movie is controversial. I don't think it is. I think this film desperately wants to be meaningful, but comes off as whiney, trie hard & pretentious, with a good dose of annoyingly grating.
Cinematography is excellent.
Acting for the most part is excellent.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Faultless & Brilliant
Thank you Jon Favreau! Finally the first Star Wars trilogy has been continued. There is one fault however, & a very large glaring fault at that!
EPISODES ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH!!!!!
But again, thank you Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni.
