Unfrosted (2024)
Here's Your Snap, Crackle, and Pop!
Forget that you couldn't give a snap, crackle, or pop where pop tarts came from. Forget the too-many meh reviews. And forget that the trailer really does a lackluster job at representing the humor this movie offers.
My brother and I-stumped on what to watch this evening-decided on Jerry Seinfeld's new Netflix flick, "Unfrosted." We only remembered it was out there because we just saw Jerry on SNL and we had nothing else to watch. And we were ready to pull the eject button at any moment.
Funny thing happened, though-literally funny. As in, we found ourselves rapid-firing LOL's. Like, this movie's hilarious. Could be a cult classic someday. Give it a shot. You'll know soon enough if it's your bowl of cereal (and I predict you'll think it is!).
One caveat: You'll get most or all the jokes if you grew up somewhere between 1958 and 1979. Otherwise, you may spend a lot of screen time like 😐.
But for those lucky viewers of a certain age, you'll work hard to keep up with all the jokes.
And, by the way, pretty much any working actor who's ever performed in a comedy appears here. It's like that's the frosting on the pop tart!
Down Low (2023)
What Were They Thinking?
With talent like Zachary Quinto, Lukas Gage, Judith Light, and Audra. McDonald, I figured this film had to have something going for it. Plus the trailer was fun and the plot seemed promising (and the house in the movie's gorgeous). But, no. It's now clear why the movie went direct-to-video.
But why would such talented people agree to perform in such nonsense? Did they not read the script?
Almost every plot development and so much of the dialogue thumbs its nose at credibility. Totally cringe.
It's too bad. There are a few funny moment and snappy lines-even a few decent dramatic moments. And the cast has good chemistry.
Really, a talented screenwriter needed to extract the good stuff from this mess and totally rewrite it. And a much smarter director needed to take control. There really is some potential buried in there somewhere.
