The Basement (2018)
Truly Awful
Truly so bad it's funny in parts. Some good acting by the two men in the picture as sometimes their on screen relationship is actually really good... Then there are times were they are a bit tedious too. The two women in the movie, well they are both absolutely awful actors and pretty pointless to the film for the most part to be honest. I'm not sure any self respecting female actor would take a role in this film given how bad the script and direction was. Don't watch this film unless you love watching awful films and laughing at them.
Batman: Hush (2019)
Comic: Amazing Film: Mediocre
Hush the comic was brilliant but the movie was bland. It was more about a love story between Selina and Bruce than about the twists and turns of a very complicated villain. The ending of the film was alas a disappointment compared to the book and had no shock factor whatsoever. A very disappointing film. If you haven't read the comic you'll probably rate this higher, if you have read it you probably think my rating is a bit too generous. I would of rated it lower but for the good voice acting and a few iconic scenes they imported from the comic into the movie.
Bones: The Pain in the Heart (2008)
Just awful script writing!
Only just started watching Bones on Amazon Prime recently. So far I've really enjoyed it, then came this episode. So in season 3 there is a recurring serial killer who is a cannibal. The storyline was really interesting and I was always looking forward to the next episode when this story would feature. The final episode of season 3 the cannibal story comes to an end in what can only be described as the most disappointing episode of a TV show I've ever seen. The twists were far-fetched and so far out of left field it had you saying "What?!". The cannibal when found didn't even have a line. He was just shot dead whilst feasting. The only reason I gave this a 2* was down to the decent acting in some parts of the episode. Anticlimactic rubbish. If this script was submitted by a child doing GCSE drama it would fail.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Haters gonna hate
This movie is weird one as you feel like you are at a murder mystery show you'd see at a venue like a hotel or something and that Aniston and Sandler are two members of the audience, like you except they've been roped in. The film keeps you guessing and has some cliches of the genre incorporated into it. The characters are quite likeable and some pretty funny. Critics have slammed this one as it's not a laugh a minute, but I don't think it was meant to be. I enjoyed it, is it Sandler's best? No. Is it his worst? Not by a long shot. Well worth a watch.
Finders Keepers (2014)
Creepy premise, poor script
Things accelerate fast in this movie. The body count is high, some of the casualties have nothing to do with the family involved. You don't build a bond with any of the characters as the average life span of a character is less than 5mins of screen time (other than Mother and Daughter). It's a bit tedious and repetitive more than scary. It's a bit mad that the police don't question the family after the dad's partner and the next door neighbour die on the same night. Some great police work there. It's just a fiesta of death and mayhem that takes away most of the suspense and terror. Occasionally there is the odd bit of great acting and good directing but its so rare the film fails to hold your attention. Don't watch.
American Vandal (2017)
Failed to Deliver
The premise of American Vandal was very interesting and different. I am not usually a fan of documentary style TV shows or movies but this captured my imagination and had me coming up with my own theories. 'Who drew the dicks?' is the tagline for the first season, and it centres around a boy who has been accused of vandalism. The documentary makers actively try and solve the mystery coming up with various theories, collecting alibi's etc.
Where the show only gets a 6 is with the ending that effectively robs the audience and perhaps tries to be too artistic. In short we do not find out 'Who drew the dicks?' which was the whole premise of the show. A failure to deliver and a robbery of the audiences time. I don't know whose idea it was to contain whoever committed the vandalism a secret and keep people guessing but it was the wrong decision.
A good TV show ruined by a sloppy ending. 6/10 worth a watch but ready yourself for frustration.
