Mother's Child (2020)
A film of these times!
Mother's Child is very much a film of these times. People trying to find their own identity in a world that seems to be continually throwing insurmountable obstacles at them! Tough, uncompromising characters are played believably by the cast! Swaylee Loughnane is brilliant in the lead role and also admirably directs the film as well. I also loved seeing all the fantastic London and Essex location work.
Nemesis (2021)
Great cast of British acting legends
Been waiting to see Nemesis for quite a while! With a lead cast of actors I love; how could I not? An amazing
powerhouse performance from Billy Murray in a role he fits like a glove! Rest of the cast includes legends like Nick Moran who has some masterclass scenes; the brilliant Frank Harper and Julian Glover. Well cast supporting actors too. Lucy Arden is an actor to watch whose character took me by surprise. There are some really tense British gangster meets horror scenes which were shocking in their realism. Intensely directed by James Crow. More Jonathan Sothcott produced movies for me please.
Meeting (2020)
Unusual and thought provoking thriller.
Loved the choice of locations and beautiful music for this film. It was an unusual and thought provoking thriller which became more powerful as it built up its momentum.
My favourite performance in Meeting was the extremely intelligent and layered portrayal from Portia Booroff as Carol. She lit up the screen in all her scenes.
If you want to watch something unexpected and original this film definitely deserves a viewing ..
Sons of No One (2017)
Riveting Short Drama of Good Feature Film Standard
So very pleased my friend recommended this top class short film from brilliant director Hans Vannetelbosch. Beautifully shot. Strong moving performance from the lead actress and the mainly young cast are compelling in their reality. You are left wanting more....
Still (2014)
Powerful!
'Still' is a must see film written and directed by Simon Blake. It tells of a man called Tom Carver played by Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones, Queer as Folk) whose life spirals downwards into a living hell after his only son is killed and a teenage gang persecute him with some very nasty consequences. The actors are well cast and the performances are first rate. The atmospheric cinematography from Andy Parsons perfectly captures the streets of North London aided by a beautiful, haunting soundtrack.
Gillen has given several excellent performances in his career but in 'Still' he is definitely at the top of his game in a multi-layered, powerhouse performance; childlike, selfish, irresponsible but try to sympathise with him as he deals with fallout of every parent's worst nightmare.
If you love realistic acting, strong dialogue and energetic direction then you have got to see 'Still'; you won't be disappointed!!
