Jessica Jones (2015)
good ideas - awful writing
What the hell? Rating of 8,6? How low is the bar these days??? Jessica Jones makes so many stupid decisions to keep the plot going for 13 Episodes and Killgrave is captured, running, captured, running, captured, running, facing Jessica, running, facing Jessica, running for about 6 to 7 episodes too many and too often. EVERY TIME something bad happens its because of an OBVIOUS bad decision of one of the main characters. EVERY TIME just humungous stupidity - I shook my head so often and hard I think I have a concussion from this series. JJ in literally every episode has the chance to end it all and/or not go the way of the main dilemma. She and all the other main characters in everyy freaking episode make Sitcom-like bad decisions. You sometimes feel like Kevin James in a wig should have played Jessica jones to accept the stupidity of her character. Also: Very bad CGI and very bad fight choreography. Well, actually they aren't really using CGI, but just always some weird off-putting camera angle to make it seem like she is jumping or somebody is flying through the air because of her strength. Or they use cardboard walls and stones. And the few CGI scenes they have is on a early 90s level - like Xena or something like that. Awful. Just Awful. I really really think they had something great there with Killgrave and Jessica jones in concept. Veryy badly written in the end. Another idea wasted to an episode filling lazy and most likely not that smart writing staff. I hope one day this will change and people will have more taste and brains to let a show like this succeed and get good ratings and reviews. But I guess the bar is just that low these days. Sad.
Master of None (2015)
Acting is very bad
So I thought I'd enjoy this show. I expected it to be a little less poisoned by the typical American fake scenery, casting and unrealistic all-over experience that is in almost every movie or series these days. I guess they kinda accomplished that here - people and actors are not all supermodels, the writing doesn't seem to be too much about somebody doing something super irrational and then realizing it in the end - what every comedy seems to be about these days. Well, in MoN still the answers that are given seem very much extreme and are very in your face. But that is not the worst part - it's the acting - aziz is OK, I guess - his parents always wait half a seconds too long for their turn and then say their text with a kinda fitting face - but they often overpronounce and -act. In general it doesn't seem like I am watching real people talk - it seems very obvious, that everybody is waiting his turn to talk and then says his part. Too often in a very unbelievable manner - they never fall into each others words, or just say something casually - it's always like they were auditioning for a role. I guess everybody these days is used too the unrealism in movies and television. I am not - and in MoN it is just too obvious too me, that a LOT of characters (in the second episode basically everybody except Aziz Ansari) have a hard time acting. And I guess together with the effort to make this series very relatable it just miserably fails in my eyes. I had to stop watching after episode 2 - so sorry, if it gets wayyyyyyy better after that - I am just not in for it. fail. Can't believe this is getting such good reviews - generally i am really frightened by the standards people have these days - are 80% of people using their phone while they watch anything and thus not really noticing the s*** that is going on on the "main" screen??? WTF.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2015)
Warming up (as of Sept. 25th 2015)
I would not give him a 10, if he wasn't getting a 7,9 so far. But his last couple of shows where really good. He started of a little flat - but I think he is becoming better and better since the last couple of shows.
I see that most reviews that rate the show as lost potential (whatever the show will become... NO ONE can deny: Colbert is talented and smart as s**t!) are very early looks upon the show. I will just put these in the category of frustrated fans, and give him some time - but after the last couple of shows the reviews are just unfair - the dates show that some reviewers gave this guy 3-4 days before they judged.
He is in a new role - although it seems similar - he is human and made a show that was the perfect fit for 9 years! He will have to find activity bits that suit him, a rhythm in his approach to his guests as his "new" self, find a balance between sarcasm, sincereness, smart talks and maybe find that certain thing that will complete the experience.
I would say in general Colbert has gotten better and better in whatever he made. That also is a fact (also people of that generation are often late bloomers ;-). So I can just repeat myself: If CBS is not full of total retards and they let themselves be influenced by Colberts' genius, I think that the show has the potential to become THE best tonight show that you have ever seen. The last couple of shows had glimpses and hints in that direction: Joe Biden Interview, Pope Francis Show, Elizabeth Warren Interview.
Admitted a lot of bits still seem awkward and constructed (e.g. Stephen Curry Shootout), but if he gains backbone and comfort with time and influences the writing and ideas of the show with the right people I think he can get somewhere with this. Maybe even something great.
Due too what I owe this guy in joyful and interesting moments, he gets' a 10/10 from me until I am sure I am wrong and to counter the bad reviews he got so far. I hope I am not - although I am not the easy to convince type of guy and the place Mr. Colbert has in my heart is not written in stone. Well, I am after all German ;-)
PS.: John Batiste also still seems a bit awkward and not that comfortable and fit for his position. His answers are not that quick-witted and he seems a bit unprofessional at times (e.g. Duett with Stephen at the pope special) - plus his band seems a bit clowny sometimes - but it seems they have growing potential, too - although I am not sure in Colberts' category.
Everybody Hates Chris (2005)
Uncreative and weak
This is a very lazy attempt to create a comedy show. But I also find it very pretentious of Mr. Rock to do something like that. I don't want to explain myself too much, but I had to use IMDb to show how bad I think this show is. It's very predictable The characters, besides MAYBE "Chris", are very unrelatable, flat and boring. Jokes are bad - less than mediocre. Acting is bad and overdone - that is the only thing I could oversee if not everything else was that bad. Music is annoying. Sceneries seem even more fake than at other "Sitcoms". The topping is, that Chris Rock is NOT important/creative/funny enough to have his own show. One can clearly see, that he overreached here.
Unnecessary piece of television.
