Gunfight at Dry River (2021)
A thought re-look at the traditional westerns
Many americans will hate this because it tells the story from the Mexican POV.
It's deliberately slow-paced and thoughtful, so if you're looking for a mindless shoot'em up its probably not for you.
But it's beautifully shot and well acted. Isabella Walker is mesmerising. The scenery is stunning
If you're looking for something a little different this might be for you.
If you're a non-discriminate cinema goer, who's only there for the violence and cheap thrills, then stick to YouTube shorts.
Hangar 10 (2014)
Hangar 10 delivers visually & dramatically with quirky English touches
You can see the influence of Simpson's father, the celebrated painter, Michael Simpson, in this film. There are stunning, atmospheric shots of the forest and an eerie, misty climax at the military base with great special effects throughout.
Solid performances from the actors, especially Danny Shayler.
But don't take my word for it. See respected film professor, Maitland McDonagh's review in the Film Journal who says "Fledgling writer-director-cinematographer Daniel Simpson–whose only previous feature was the little-seen Spiderhole (2010)–directs with a sure hand ... it's a tidy calling card that should open doors for Simpson."
And Brandon Meyers of Movie Pilot says "Found footage and UFO fans may have found a new favorite"
