Sinister (2012)
MUST SEE
I love every movie Scott Derrickson has made, but Sinister is my favorite so far. I've watched it at least 10+ times. This movie is terrifying, and the music score by Christopher Young is chilling, eerie beyond belief. I was bummed to see that he wasn't used in The Black Phone, can't wait to see it though. Imo Scott Derrickson is the next James Wan.
Destroyer (2018)
BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE BY NICOLE KIDMAN - WORTHY OF AN OSCAR IMO
This film deserves a higher rating imo. Nicole Kidman's performance is the best of her career and she deserved an Oscar nomination imo. Amazing script and the acting is top notch. I loved the twist ending, and there aren't many films that have endings I like - this one delivered. If you missed this film like I did when it was originally released, it's a must-see gem.
Black Summer (2019)
WORTH A WATCH
Impressive cinematography and great cast! I enjoyed season 1 better than 2. It's always so frustrating in Zombie apocalypse movies that the living turn out to be the real casualties, they're the ACTUAL walking dead - not the zombies. I always find myself hoping humanity will finally work together, but chaos always brings people to the same place and the bullies fuck it up for us every time. Wish they'd stayed in the ski lodge longer - seemed like a great place to be during a zombie apocalypse, kind of like the mall in Dawn of the Dead. But it always ends the same.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
AWFUL
Amy Adams can't save this film from itself. I know they wanted this movie to be the next Rear Window, even using music similar to Bernard Herrmann - but it's nothing more than a pretentious mess.
American Refugee (2021)
ABSOLUTE TRASH!
Despite the cool premise - the complete collapse of America and our financial institutions leading to Martial Law - it doesn't take five minutes to realize nothing can save this disaster of a film.
Absolutely ridiculous plot, to the point of insulting anyone who tries to watch it. While the entire country is in collapse, these idiotic characters drink wine, make jokes, complain about their lives and their neighbors. No depth to any of the characters and ridiculous stereotypes. One of the worst films I've ever seen. Granted we're in a Pandemic, but why is it all we get out of Hollywood these days are remakes of remakes, superhero films and trash like this?!!!
Really, Epix, this is the best you can do?!!!
A Most Violent Year (2014)
FANTASTIC FILM WORTH A WATCH
Excellent film, best I've seen in quite some time! Great performance by Oscar Isaac, a man fighting to operate his business above board in an industry ripe with violence and corruption.
Blue Ruin (2013)
FANTASTIC FILM, DON'T PASS THIS UP!
I know there'll be people out there, gun enthusiasts, who will have issues with Dwight's mistakes throughout the film. Don't let that stop you from watching and enjoying this flick. This is a great film about loss, never healing and ultimately seeking revenge. The cinematography is excellent, it's very realistic and kudos for the great acting from a cast of unknowns. Best movie I've seen in ages and worth a watch 🎬
Dark Highlands (2018)
Worst Film Ever!
I'm always shocked seeing people give high ratings to films this bad.
This film isn't horror and it's not scary. I gave up trying to figure it out, no point! There is nothing redeeming about this film.
In a time when most new films are remakes, it'd be nice to see some new ideas. But this sure ain't it.
Save yourself the time, don't watch this muddled piece of garbage.
Crawl (2019)
Could have been better
This movie started good, then went down fast. Great actors, CGI, but the incessant talking throughout was ridiculous. Maybe if I was 18 this would have been my "Jaws" of the summer, I doubt it. I guess if you want something to just turn your brain off it would be okay. I refuse to give films zero reviews because I know what hard work goes into them. But the script could have been better. I also think these user reviews skew ratings. That's why there are ten star movies with 6.3 ratings. I miss the days of real reviews by people who know film.
The Mist: Pilot (2017)
Worst Show I've Ever Watched
As a Stephen King fan, I'm flabbergasted. Did Torpe even read Steohen King's story? No monsters, terrible acting, nonsensical storyline. I cheered when it was over. It's like watching a train wreck and not being able to look away. Just awful.
