Simple, Bleak, And Beautifully Done.
30 August 2018
If you enjoyed Moonlight or The Florida Project, chances are you'll enjoy this one as well. A simple, bleak view into the lives of a family with nothing to hold onto other than each other. A boy finding himself and the circumstances he's in as he grows. A beautiful simple concept that you wouldn't expect to see as a film. Nothing but appreciation for this movie. Don't expect to be blown away, this isn't in any way shape or form a blockbuster entertainer. But see it as you see an abstract painting by Van Gogh, and let it take you where it chooses.

Eye Opening
14 August 2018
Spike Lee and Jordan Peele really create a conversation starter here. I expected this film to be a lighter humorous take on the seemingly darker topic matter, but they really showed the true nature. The cynical actions behind the klansman are so sickening to witness. The reality that was still so prevalent such a short time ago is extremely eye opening. Very much an educational piece. The clips in the end were also a fantastic addition, these people are still at large today and are very much overlooked by us. The progress made in the last few decades is great, but the fact that our president can't condemn this behavior is shocking. What a great message and piece of art.

Eighth Grade (2018)

Bo Burnham has such a unique and original sense of humor
9 August 2018
I didn't at all expect this film to draw me in or capture the full scope of the eighth grade lifestyle as much as it did. But with the modern technology in our pockets and the senseless info we all expose ourselves to on a day to day basis, to see these young adolescents being completely consumed by this is hilarious and nearly disturbing. They have never experienced a time without their personal computer and Bo makes that very prevalent. But rather than creating a story showing the negative affects associated with this, Bo let's this eighth grade girl, who was brilliant, lead you into her hysterical world by trying to make a name for herself during her last middle school year. And if you think you won't be interested in this young eighth grade girls journey, you're simply wrong.

What am I watching?

Warning: Spoilers
This is the question you'll be asking yourself before you even leave the theater. The absurdity and the outright craziness this film reaches is neither enjoyable nor comfortable. The humorous sci-fi horror leaves you questioning throughout the second half of the film. Once the horrendous horse people are established, the film takes a sharp turn from a unique, seemingly well established comedy to a darkly odd, and extremely peculiar narrative. I will say your engagement and attention to the film never falls short, due to the insane and slightly deranged plot line. But the true interest will most likely leave before you can finish your popcorn. Enjoyed the acting all around, but there probably wasn't a single person cast who didn't question their desire to be a part of this. I know I would have, despite definitely still working on the project.

Beautifully done

Joaquin Phoenix driving this heart breaking story gives the audience such a true sense of the unbearable. The will to overcome the tragedy that had changed his life and the dissection of the true problem he faces is remarkable. All of the people that play into his recovery give him the faith and the strength he needs in order to better himself. Jonah Hill and the entire group of AA members are all in the same boat. His selfish desire to lead that group of misfits turns him into a selfless man by giving them exactly what they need. Having such a positive impact on these people is very heartwarming to watch. Rooney Mara fits her character like a glove. She was the exact piece of the puzzle that John Callahan needed. Such a good hearted beautiful woman. Makes you very glad to see these people exist. What a story. Very happy to see it on screen.

Amazing to Incredible to heartwarming to tragic

First off, just the sheer coincidence and odds associated with this happening are remarkably inconceivable. The depth this story goes into leaves you deeply connected with these three men. Their unbelievable journey is a tragic fairy tale. So glad this story was able to be told.

A true exhilaration
28 July 2018
This was such a unique, imaginative and fun experience to be a part of. The way they jumped back and forth through the real people and the actors was magnificent. That made me have a true take on the intense, risk filled story. I was able to see these guys logic and intention behind what they were doing. Created a personal journey and made it more of an intense viewing experience. Evan Peters and all the other cast members did a fantastic job. The adrenaline filled thrill ride was never cut short. The thought and planning behind everything and having this be the first job they pulled at such a young age, made it that much more intriguing and extreme.

Just what you'd expect
28 July 2018
Talk about action packed, this is the movie that delivers. There isn't a moment in this film where action isn't either closely behind or right in front of you. It left you engaged enough by the quirky usual narrative but the action was beyond abundance. Tom doing his own stunts, showing off his dare devil nature gives you such a thrill. No one does it like he does. And you simply have to respect it. Well admired. Surprises were also a big pleasing factor in this one. But without the visually pleasing, adrenaline pumping action in this film, I think it would lack in every other category. Thank goodness Tom doesn't let that action fall short.
