This is not a real documentary, or at least not a real documentary about the Amazing Jonathan.
The only content relating to the Amazing Jonathan is covered in the first 10 minutes and contains less information than his Wikipedia page. He's a comedy-magician, he's getting older and has health issues, he struggles to perform a few farewell performances. The end. That entire story is over and done with 10 minutes into the documentary.
The next hour and 20 minutes is not about the Amazing Jonathan, it's about the director and how he isn't sure of himself. He's not sure he should be making a documentary, he's not sure about the fact that there's two other documentaries being made about the Amazing Jonathan, he's not sure he's made the right life choices. You know, even those glib self referencing bits could have been OK as part of the film if they lasted just a few minutes, but instead the director is on a loop. He literally just repeats himself having this same conversation with himself, with his parents, with his friends, with the Amazing Jonathan (to the point where Jonathan doesn't even want to work with him anymore). You'll even be treated to 10 minutes of the director repeatedly calling and listening to Jonathan's answering machine ~ because he's tired of answering the same questions.
This is quite possibly the worst documentary I've ever had the displeasure to watch. It's not about the titled subject matter, it's about the director himself, and worse, it's not even a good documentary about the director, he's just stuck in a loop crying about whether he should even be making a documentary.
No sir, you shouldn't be making a documentary, go back to smoking meth (you'll get to see him do that too), it's a far more productive use of your time than churning out garbage like this.
