Boarders (2024)
Anuvahood meets mean girls
I'm nearing the end of episode 3 but I think I get the gist. Quite an entertaining series but I'm not sure if it works entirely. From the start the guys from London are such a mixed bag I'm just not sure how their friendships would have originated and the guys already attending the boarding school are absolute bafoons from the off so you can't take it too seriously. As long as you can over look the above then I think you'll find it mildly amusing and worth investing in on a quiet Sunday lunchtime. That said I think Jaheim (the lead) has got good potential. He carries his character well. And I hated Rupert from the word go which I'm assuming was the actors intentions so good job there too. All in all worth a watch if there's nothing much doing.
A Town Called Malice (2023)
Watered down TV version of the business
Typical middle of the road Nick Love flick. Shot in some beautiful Spanish locations this feels like it takes a lot from the business, the mayor etc. I quite liked Jason Flemings character and he played the part fairly well. However I wasn't completely convinced by Gene and I certainly couldn't fall in love with "Ma". The soundtrack was well picked, some 80's classics. Although this is definitely watchable, I wouldn't expect too much. If you've got a free Sunday on the sofa then get a pizza, couple of beers and you'll quite enjoy it. I love an 80's London crime caper but this one didn't quite fill the hole.
Terrifier (2016)
Does what it says on the tin
Plenty of gore and art the clown is particularly creepy, much more so than penny wise I thought. Another one though where nearly every character at some point had more than ample time to kill him but didn't and eventually end up dead themselves. Good fun if your a slasher fan though. I hadn't even heard of this title until I saw the sequel being advertised so thought I'd try it out. 99p to rent from Amazon which I was happy with and had a lazy afternoon with it. I'm a slasher lover so quite enjoyed this but I wouldn't recommend it too highly if you're looking for something with a good old plot line or Oscar winning performances but if you fancy a cheap scare and a ton of blood then one could be for you.
Wild Is the Wind (2022)
So glad I watched this movie
I watched this movie purely based on the Netflix teaser on a bored Friday night literally just because I couldn't be bothered to keep searching. I was totally hooked from the start. I personally haven't heard of any of the actors before so was just expecting something to pass the time. Boy was I wrong. This movie will capture your full attention from start to finish. The tension builds at just the right pace and the two leads show great acting ability keeping you on the edge of your seat as you meander your way through their separate agendas and try to work out each characters end goal. I won't say no more. Just do what I did, press play and I promise you will not be disappointed.
Rise of the Footsoldier (2007)
gritty and powerful British gangster flick
the best of the "Essex boys" mini genre by far. the violence that keeps getting reviewed as over the top on here is nothing but necessary to the plot. we need to remember the reign of terror went on for many years until it finally concluded in the boys death. this needed to be compressed in to an hour and a half, therefore, it needed to depict how violent these guys were. Craig fairbrass, despite what I keep reading on here, played an amazing pat Tate with natural screen presence and menace. I am not a fan of terry stone usually but thought he to played tucker well, just the odd lapse in good acting. and I enjoyed watching Roland play Craig Rolfe too. very well cast. all in all I think this was one of our best modern day films in this genre to date. I recommend anyone with a taste for violence and crime in their movies to watch this film. you wont regret it
The Fall of the Essex Boys (2013)
My eyes are bleeding
I actually cannot believe what I have just seen. The acting was utterly appalling. Pat Tate was a man mountain that commanded respect, a steroid driven hulk. The guy playing him looks like hes never even walked past a gym let alone been in one. And tony tuckers character???? he'd be spinning in his grave. Id be more scared if my Nan piped up at me. and whose narrating this?? someone just wasted a whole bunch of money shooting this crap. its billed as the true story but anyone who knew the boys, or at least a basic knowledge of how the story goes will know that this movie is filled with more holes than a teabag. what the hell was the Amsterdam scene about?? when did that happen? and since when did mickey Steele supply the pills that put Leah in her coma. if the terrible, completely unbelievable character acting don't seal its fate, the atrocious production, editing and lighting certainly will. the only thing this DVD came in useful for was to De-ice my car windscreen. avoid it like the plague or spend an hour and a half of your life that you'll never get back. 1 out of 10
