Ad Astra (2019)
10/10
Those bad reviewers where just expecting an other type of movie!
13 June 2020
Ad Astra is a masterful psychological drama with a gorgeous sci-fi epic. This is not the next popcorn space adventure blockbuster some were where obviously waiting for. In fact, it is way more than that, and that is good... It's a powerful and very thoughtful movie.

Looking at the other reviews, people expected action packed movie, but where disappointed to having to use theirs heads and their hearts to appreciate this movie. Ignore the reviews, but know what you are in for. The artistic vision of this movie is without a doubt the best since Moon (2009). Gray has delivered a thought-provoking big budget science fiction film that achieves it's goal, makes you think... Makes you gaze at the beauty of his vision. The cinematography alone is worth the match.

This film will take you on a cross-solar system journey but the real voyage is deep into the human experience...

Miss understood and underrated
12 October 2019
This Stephen King adaptation is underrated, sure it has it's flaws, it's a mishmash of many things in some sense it fails to find it's bearings. But that is only in the surface, in all it's weirdness these is a sense. Hard to grasp and see at first, I revisited this movie almost a decade later.

I didn't recall this movie to be anything impressive or mind-blowing. Yep upon a recent viewing I find my self pleasantly surprise by this flick. Dreamcatcher isn't Stephen King's best book by a long shot. The four main actors gave stellar performances, John Seale's cinematography is simply perfect for this. Damian Lewis is simply genius in his role.

Do your self a favor, watch this movie, ignore the low rating.

Moon Bruce
23 November 2018
The moon, aliens, Bruce Campbell, Walter Koenig.... All the ingredients for B move greatness. ... Can you ever go wrong with Bruce Campbell anyways? All the clichés are there. Typical jet jockey, bad science, over the top puns...

This movie is bad, very bad, but it is unintentionally funny as hell . Don't expect a sci-fi master piece, the script is abysmal, the acting is awful, the effects are horrible... But then again isn't what makes B movies so great. Well in this case it's made even better by the presence of Campbell. He makes the movie all worth it on his own.

If anything hasn't sold you on seeing this yet... This should do the trick... Space Uzi's with infinit ammo.... How movies like this can get the green light is... mind-boggling...

Slipstream (1989)

Slips under the radar
13 May 2018
Slipstream is a retro sci-fi cult classic in my book. It features a very solid performance by Mark Hamil. It's a remarkable effort but it does fall short of achieving it's potential. The plot is a bit simplistic and slow but it's not the snore-fest people some people say it is. Paxton is blast to watch as always.

The biggest obstacle this movie faced was it's lack of funding. The world it is sets in is an interesting premise. Decent underutilized cast, Gary Kurtz said in an interview that the script was originally much more violent, but that these violent scenes, which would have made the plot more coherent, were never filmed. The visuals and camera work are not that great, but still manage to do the job.

Rabid (1977)

A disturbing parasitical/sex allegory
25 March 2018
David Cronenberg's third feature-length film, but Like most his early work this movie is fascinating. Intelligent and well thought this movies has many political and social criticism under the surface, and he is definitely trying to comment on the objectification of women. Even if the screenplay seems under-developed and the movie under budgeted it's a gem. This weird zombie/parasitic/sex allegory is definitely worth watching. I probably have seen this movie a dozen times and even today I still find it enjoyable, intriguing and a great commentary on society. The soundtrack is reminiscent of John Carpenter's. Ivan Reitman did a wonderful job assembling the music from a variety of sources. Brian Bennett's tracks are an added bonus.

A lot of blood and gore as you would expect from a movie that seems to be a simple exploitation flicks but offers far more. Starring 70s porn star Marilyn Chambers (Behind the Green Door) as the female lead, Cronenberg is without a doubt the grandfather of body horror and this movie pioneered the genre. I would choose Rabid over Shivers or Scanners any time.

Body Bags (1993 TV Movie)

3 Body Bags. 3 very different journeys...
24 January 2018
John Carpenter is a true master, defiantly the best actor but I did like his cryptkeepesk coroner.

Gas station segment is well made, slasher / scream queen. psychological horror. with cameos from Sam Raimi, Wes Craven, David Naughton and more. It's a horror convention in a box.

Hair is more on the dark comedy side of things. With a brief barely noticeable cameo of Greg Nicotero, this one is fun. Debbie Harry drops by with David Warner , Stacy Keach takes it out of the park.

A Psychological confusion masterpice, it's Tobe Hooper from the Chainsaw/Funhouse days. Macabre, it's the perfect finally for this anthology. Never understood why showtime pulled the plug on this planned series. This would have been a series with great potential. Roger Corman, Robert Carradine, George Buck Flower, Mark Hamill , Twiggy , Charles Napier, the cameo's in this are just insane....

Perfect scientific exposé of Time travel.
13 January 2018
Most Complicated Sci Fi Movie Ever Made?? Could be ! Most realistic time travel Movie Ever Made ?? Sure is.. !

This has to be one of the coolest, cleverest, and most innovative time travel movies ever made period. Forget Memento, Interstellar or Inception, this movie will screw with your mind big time! You will be confused, might have to see it twice. No actually in fact you need to watch it twice. Or more!!!!

This ultra low budge movie succeed where so many time travel movie fail. Making it scientifically sound, accurate and above all it opens the Pandora box of questions such subject raises.

13 January 2018
Yes this movie is not for everyone. Some people will just not be able to understand it and appreciate it.

Do your self a favor, expect nothing, and get taken for the ride. This is a movie for the open minded people. Jerome Bixby is just a genius. this movie is original, the characters grow on you, They managed a single location movie that works.

This is a movie best seen with others who will enjoy it, cause you will wanna talk and discuss the movie after.

Hanna (2011)
9/10
Underrated psychedelic action revenge thriller..
22 November 2017
You could easily overlook Anna with it's the vague premise. But you should really do yourself a favor and take the plunge, you won't be disappointed.

With an amazing score made by none other then the Chemical Brothers, Hanna is unique, reminiscent of A Clockwork Orange, this movie has some obvious Kubrickian vibes.

It's a surreal fairy tale with many references to great works like 1984,Brother Grimm, A Clockwork Orange, Leon: The Professional... It even also reminded me of Run Lola Run, having a sub-themes such as free will vs. determinism, cause-effect relationships.

Technically brilliant with a few interesting show of camera work (specially in the perspectives), solid acting... And the sound... The sound alone will drag you in, the Chemical Brothers expertly crafted a soundtrack to match it's atmosphere and stylish cinematography with numerous contrast, landscapes and light schemes.

I cannot understand why anyone would give this 1 star. Even if you hate the story, the actors, the themes. The technical prowess alone is worth at the very least a 5.

If only the bad reviews were exaggerations...
3 February 2017
At first I was hoping this movie was just the victim of angry fanboys. But turns out this movie is worst then anything I could imagine. Not funny, annoying characters, simplistic script.... This movie has literally nothing going for it.

McCarthy is acting the only way she can, let's face it, all her characters are the same. McKinnon is just so faded out, there is nothing coming thru, I am under the impression it was an attempt at character uniqueness. The only good acting is from Wiig and Woods and even those barely gets passing grade. Don't even get me started on Jones...

Feig has proved he can only do one type of movie and after 2 of them, it was getting old, now it's just pathetic.

Not to mention this movie is like an insult to the original. And it seems to try to make a poor attempt at promoting feminism, but it even fails at that.

Could have been so much more
25 January 2017
This re-animator vibe filled movie had so much going for it. I scratched the surface of a very interesting story. This could really have been much much more. The acting was above what I was expecting. Of course you get a few scare jumps, but that is not what this movie is trying to be. Yet it falls short of become something greater.

The cold emptiness of the lab could be felt, it added to the atmosphere very well. This movie obviously got his inspiration from The Re-Animator, Pet Cemetery and even a little Flatliners if would dare to say.

As enjoyable as it was, you can't help to fell like this movie was rushed out of it's intentions. That will leave you wishing it had more to offer in the end. Don't get me wrong, this movie is not dull or boring, but it strive's to accomplished something but never does. Well made and a great production value without a doubt.

The plot is kinda easy to foresee yet keeps you on your toes until the end. Overall this movie is entertaining, but... Like I said , could have done much more.

Hidden (I) (2015)

This was truly an "hidden gem"
14 January 2017
This movie was amazingly surprising. Don't let the reviews fool you, this is a very interesting twist on the survival genre. I was very happy to look past what I had overheard about the movie.

The atmosphere was just perfect, photography is also very well planned and excels in it's subtle plays on shadows and scheme to achieve an eerie claustrophobic essence. The pace of the movie was just ideal.

The acting of both Andrea Riseborough and Alexander Skarsgård was good enough to get you in their mind set and see the events from their perspective. I was little disappointed with Elimly Lind however, she kinda lowers the acting score, but still manage to give a passable performance.

This was a very creative story. It's often hard to impose a small set during the majority of a feature, but this time, it was greatly executed. The use of the flashback expertly timed helped to accomplish this.

The Duffer brothers clearly crew up dreaming and breathing 80's movies. The atmosphere that transpires from this production clearly shows what got Shawn Levy interested in them.

This was really a "hidden" gem.

Beneath (V) (2013)

A claustrophobic descent in madness
6 November 2016
Beneath starts off slow and steady but the ride is worth it. It's not your typical dumb for the masses movies. It creeps in on you, the slow pace will deter a few viewers same goes for the unfairly low ratings and review, but it will reward the ones that stick with it.

Reminiscent of other claustro-horror like "The Descent" or "The Cave", it manages to create it's own thing without just blatantly copying what others did before.

Some the the actors performances where disappointing but the story, script and good photography makes up for it. The carefully crafted mixture of light, shadows and darkness sets an incredible claustrophobic mood. The ambiance audio is also gteatly contributing to the eeriness vibe this movie warps you in.

The only other disappointing element of this movie is a redundant jump scare that is overused and isn't actually needed that much. Can't go in more details without spoilers but you will understand when you see it.

How can anyone give a good rating to this ?!?
10 September 2016
After reading some reviews that called unjust the reviews this series was getting, told my self I would watch the first few episodes to see if any of the bad reviews where unfounded.

After watching 4 episodes, I cannot understand why people are giving a good ratting to such a pathetic execution of the Zombie genre.

Acting is appalling, CG look's like it was done by third graders. There is nothing to like about this show. The entire production is sub par. I am a huge fan of horror and zombie related material, but this just doesn't make the cut.

They steal ideas from other great source material and just aren't able to construct anything credible or watchable from it. From the bits they stole from World War Z novel and the entire plethora of exploration of the zombie genre, one would think they could make something good. Boy was I wrong.

Do not waste your time.
