Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Siege of the North, Part 2 (2005)
Beautiful
Solely their use of color in the climax of the episode is enough to make this a 10/10. Add to that a complex and emotional narrative that caps off the season perfectly and you get something truly special.
During the climax of the episode, they play with colors in such a beautiful and emotional way that makes me really feel how bleak the situation is as well as every glimmer of hope that they derive from what they can do against it. I felt dread, fear, loss, and so much more just from one element of maybe five minutes of the episode. The actors all play their parts as well as ever and the writing is top notch. There is no part of this episode that is done poorly.
BoJack Horseman: Nice While It Lasted (2020)
Not Finished
The story doesn't feel finished. That, good because Bojack isn't finished. He never will be. He has the opportunity to take what he's learned and grow as a person. Will he relapse? Maybe. Will he stay clean and build something great? Maybe. We'll never know because his life is more complicated than can be captured in 6 seasons of a tv show. Bojack has been through the most traumatic parts of his life and has the tools he needs to move past it. The show presented the most transformative times and people in his life and now that that's done even though Bojack as a person hasn't reached a conclusion, we've reached the end of his journey that an audience is concerned with. Everything now is up to him.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)
8/10 with a point taken off for how buggy it is.
The story was pretty good, gameplay was engaging, visuals were incredible. The only problem is it's the buggiest game I have ever played. It's the only game I've ever played on my PS4 that's crashed multiple times and other, more minor bugs detracted from gameplay all the time when I was trying to do something but the game decided to freeze up, have enemies teleport around the environment, and drop half the frames it wanted to send me.
Soul (2020)
Absolute Work of Art
This is Pixar at its best. It's thought provoking, emotional, but still fun. It's the same incredible visuals I've come to expect from Pixar paired with a wonderful story and masterful art direction.
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Kids Movie About Toxic Friendship is Important
Wreck It Ralph is great for what it is - a kids movie. Will kids be entertained by the humor, colors and lights? Of course. Will kids also listen to the important statements about healthy friendship that the move makes? Certainly. It was an important message communicated in an approachable way that makes this movie a winner in my book.
