Flawed but powerful
20 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely leave reviews on IMDB but felt compelled to leave a brief one for this. I think the pacing and detail is flawed but when we (finally) get to a very respectful and mercifully not-over-edited interview with one of Savile's victims it becomes incredibly powerful and moving and really hits like a sledgehammer on the most important aspect of this terrible story. Not a perfect documentary but definitely worth watching for some of the first-hand accounts of some of the most significant figures involved in exposing this genuinely evil man. Even if it was all too late.

Very slow start but drastically improves

Sad to see so many reactive 1-star reviews. I rarely leave reviews but feel the need to stick up for this show. Of course, it's not TWD and doesn't pretend to be. It's pretty slow getting going and there are too many drawn out two-hander scenes but it really develops quite well with interesting character back stories and genuine moments of tension and excitement, all nicely constructed and paced. Very good for a show that was never ever going to please the majority of its viewers.

Dracula (2020)

Very enjoyable retelling.

I rarely post reviews on here but felt I had to come to the show's defence after seeing so many negative reviews, mostly from people who passionately don't want to see their favourite gothic classic manipulated so much.

Well, I think they did a great job, even if the climax wasn't quite as satisfying as I hoped and what would be the point of just doing another classic, 100% faithful version anyway? As per the recent Scrooge retelling that I see a lot of people grouping with this in their "well that didn't happen in the book" pigeonhole of disdain.

Bang is great, as is Wells and the rest of the cast. It's beautifully staged and shot and the balance of horror and humour and intrigue is excellent. Can't please everybody all the time though, eh?
