Billions (2016)
Just had to downgrade my rating
You've probably already gathered that Billions has died a slow death, so much so that I've just changed my IMDb rating from an 8 (given during S3) to a 6. It could go lower at this rate.
In summary, seasons 1-4 are easily an '8', 5-6 are a '4' and, so far, season 7 is somewhere between.
Truth is, shows based on high finance can never entertain for so many years. Perhaps they should have bowed out following season 4 or so. Tough to say, but the latter scripts were genuinely a chore to watch. And without Axe the show was on life support.
RIP Billions. I'll rewatch the first three seasons someday.
Junior Bake Off (2011)
Bake Off Lite. Harry Hill brilliant.
Firstly, if you like GBBO, you'll enjoy Junior. It's a kind of 'lite' version of the adult show.
Secondly, Harry Hill is perfect for this. If you're not familiar with him as a comedian, or his style, then I suppose it takes time to warm to him. The same thing happened when Noel and Matt started presenting GBBO. He is a little childish, silly and alternative in humour. Perfect! The kids find him amusing and I genuinely laugh out loud at times. He's done three seasons so must be doing something right. A 'creep'? Pathetic. Shouldn't be allowed to post comments like that. In summary, a fun bake off spinoff, kids are a joy, and presenters great too.
Ghosts (2021)
Watch the original
I will never ever understand why the US needs its 'own version' of a fantastic show which is in the exact same language that they speak. British viewers happily watch shows set in the USA, without remaking their own version. But any critically acclaimed show or film set in Britain has to get remade for a US audience. Bizarre. Anyway, this is okay I guess. It's just that the original BBC show is a tad more subtle, understated... this is average. Dog out the BBC version. If you can't, this is an okay substitute. Script is almost identical. Great writing, interesting idea and funny. Enjoy!!!!!!!!
The Green Knight (2021)
A work of art
Stunning cinematography, a director with a vision, wonderful scenery, haunting soundtrack. What's not to like?
Okay, so my rating isn't a perfect score simply because some of the metaphorical characters and double-meanings were a little lost on me, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of this film.
It's a fantasy, almost dream-like story and I can't wait to watch it again.
Arsène Wenger: Invincible (2021)
A reminder of the good times
We all know the football stuff; the way Arsene changed the game, won the double, the Ferguson rivalry, the unbeaten campaign, move to the Emirates, and, despite calling his last 10 years a failure still qualifying for Champions League 9 of those years (!)......
That aside, this is a well-made film, looks good and feels good. Fantastic cast of important people, excellent footage and a perfect homage to Arsenal's most successful and important manager.
Nicely done.
Messy Goes to Okido (2015)
If you read the magazine, you'll love this
Based on the characters from science and arts magazine, Okido, this quirky show is a welcome addition. Each episode focuses on a certain sciencey issue (why do some things float and others sink, how do bats sleep upside down etc)... Of course, it's not aimed for someone my age so all I can say is my child enjoys it, she learns something new each episode and Adam Buxton does the voice for Messy so win, win, WIN!
