Mother! (2017)
Disgusting!
This has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. Do not waste your time on this idiotic trash. The ending has to be the most revolting in film history, and I'm sure was only used to for its shock value since the film is that awful. Jennifer Lawrence supposedly kicked the script across the room after she first read it. She should never have picked it up again.
The Invitation (2015)
Don't believe the hype
After reading the reviews of this film, I was excited to rent it. The first fifteen minutes were good, but the film went downhill from there. It was predictable, boring, and drawn out. The actors were very good even though the material wasn't. The film needed a complete rewrite, and a couple of the roles should have been recast while one character should have been eliminated all together. The film was not believable in any sense; you felt the writer was going out of their way to be politically correct: an interracial couple, a gay couple, an Asian couple, and a few other people all come together to attend the dinner party from hell. It was all covered in long, inane conversations between the characters while a disjointed plot attempted to pull it all together.
The Conjuring (2013)
Don't Believe the Hype
I shelled out almost twenty dollars to purchase this film because of the glowing reviews from the critics, and this film turned out to be a major disappointment. The film steals from every horror genre I could think of: "The Exorcist", "Poltergeist", "The Woman in Black", etc., but it doesn't succeed on any level. The first forty-five minutes are a boring back story build-up, while throughout the rest of the film I could predict when every apparition would appear or "jump out of your seat moment" (and you won't be jumping) was going to happen. It's not scary or even suspenseful. Don't waste your time unless you have ninety minutes to waste and expect nothing from it because it does not deliver.
Munger Road (2011)
Worst Horror Film Ever
The other reviewers must be blind, friends or relatives of the writer/director of this film. I've never seen a film of any genre that had so many plot holes in it that it reminded me of a piece of Swiss cheese. Actually, there were two story lines playing out simultaneously that the writer could not tie together to save his life. I kept waiting for the film to improve but then gave up and watched in awe as it became more and more ridiculous and then ended in one huge mess. I kept thinking to myself how did this movie ever get out of pre-production without someone stepping in to doctor the script. I certainly wish I had the 86 minutes back of my life after watching this clunker, and I can only warn potential viewers to watch at their own risk.
The Perfect Host (2010)
Ridiculous Plot
The first twenty minutes of this film had me expecting great things, but unfortunately after the excellent beginning the film started to unravel and quickly. The twist towards the end of the film has to be one of the most unbelievable plot holes in cinematic history which is saying a lot for a film full of plot holes. A good script editor could have possibly turned this film around and made it one of the more memorable Indy films, which makes the whole thing even more lamentable. I would only recommend this film for die hard fans of David Hyde Pierce who would enjoy his excellent performance. But for the rest of the world, I wouldn't recommend it.
Halloween (1978)
A Very Disappointing Revisit
I hadn't seen this film in over twenty-five years, so I decided to give it another look. I remember going to the movies as a teenager to see this film and being scared to death, so I was looking forward to seeing it again. I can only say I was sorely disappointed. The film I thought was basically an inferior remake of "Black Christmas" (1974) with Olivia Hussey, which was a film Carpenter was obviously familiar with, and I feel he copied many film techniques and plot lines from. The fact that Carpenter has never repeated this success speaks volumes to me as his skill as a director. Carpenter is an excellent mimic but not an original.
