Sofia Sofia 💜
25 December 2023
Danielle Brooks truly stole the show as Sofia in the film, shining like a star. Her talent and beauty are simply awe-inspiring. Whenever she graced the screen, a smile would automatically appear on my face, and I couldn't help but feel a slight blush. Her performance was filled with sensitivity and power, making her the perfect fit for the role. I have no doubt that she will have a long and illustrious career, deserving of celebration.

I couldn't have asked for a better way to start my Christmas morning than being immersed in the timeless charm of this classic film's stunning visuals and captivating sound. I'm absolutely thrilled to keep playing the soundtrack on repeat!

Tell Me Lies (2022– )

I've read the book and watched the series.
24 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had a real hate/love relationship with this book. I couldn't stand any of the main characters and nobody had any real redeeming or likeable qualities about them. But that's what made me love the book...I could singularly focus on the MESS they made of their lives because of extraordinary BAD decision making. The book had that charm about it. It was like reading a ole Jackie Collins book - it's all about the drama and heartbreak of horrible predatory men and laughable foolish women.

Unfortunately the television series lacked so much of the books magic. Starting with the most obvious one thats been mentioned by others--- the casting of Stephen. He's supposed to be the good looking, charming, a bit mysterious etc. What we got was an much OLDER looking actor that has zero natural charm or even modest good looks. His shoulders are turned inward as he off-puttingly mops around the scenes.

He has no onscreen chemistry and the sex scenes that were so hot in the book, on screen felt awkward and so forced. The full beard and aging hairline is all I could see.

Its impossible to ignore how out of place the actor looks among the other cast. There's a huge attraction imbalance between him and Lucy - it visually looks absurd.

So much of what makes the book work was Stephen using his status as a handsome self assured man to manipulate everyone around him. He's superficial and ego driven. He gets away with his behavior because he's a God to these women. He blinds them with his brilliance.

The Danish version of "Get Out", without the satisfying end.
17 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The real horror is having these two as parents. I'll assume this sort of compliancy and over niceness is the norm in Danish culture? I'm a black woman living in Midwestern U. S., and you speak to my child with any disregard and I'm stomping you periodt.

Instead of listening to their gut to leave, they stay. Instead of letting their daughter experience the loss of a stuffed animal, they return despite the obvious red flags. And as their daughters tongue is getting cut out, they cry?!? You ain't out numbered, there is no weapons. Claw a b-ish's eye out. Immediately sis.

It's extremely frustrating to watch. I was letting yelling at my screen. The line from Patrick .... 'because you let me', perfectly sums of this movie. I'm just left with rage. Which is what makes this movie brilliant.

Unique plot, amazing acting and a slow unassuming pace. Glad I gave the movie a chance. I'll have to look into other Danish horror/thrillers. Very impressed.

Horrible character dialogue
17 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I could've enjoyed this cheesy vampire movie if the character dialogue wasn't as bad as it was. Perfect example of white writers not knowing how to write realistic dialogue for black characters. It's cringey, annoying and frankly insulting. Just because you can write POC characters into a story it doesn't mean you should. Or at minimum refrain from the running commentary about race, as your personal viewpoint is limited.

The general plot was good. I liked the idea of using home DNA kits - it's an concept that a lot of the audience can connect since millions of people have voluntary submitted their DNA to ancestry databases. Loved the idea of 'vampire' sister wives.

Too big to fail.
11 September 2022
Boeing is one of those "too big to fail" or "too big to be held accountable" companies impart thanks to the total ineptitude of the FAA.

Not a single person fired or punished? Both of them operate much like the law enforcement in America.... they regulate and investigate themselves - with no serious oversight to hold them accountable.

Extremely informative and distressing documentary. By the end I was left with the complete certainty that this will happen again and again.

A highlight of the documentary is watching the lawyers for the families relentlessly championing for them. The Seattle reporter who didn't stop till the truth is uncovered. And the young woman in the UK who lost her father. She handles her grief with such strength and grace.

My disappointment with Boeing and FAA is slightly less maddening knowing there are people out there that are still honest, ethical and are doing what's RIGHT instead of what they want.

Judge the documentary, not the villians.
28 August 2022
Great storytelling and kept my attention. The criticism for Sarma is well deserved. She was indulgent in her fantasies of the promised perfect world of Shane's with unlimited wealth. I don't feel a bit of sympathy for her. She's a well educated woman with a degree in economics - shes not some naive foolish girl. She's just greedy. And frankly very boring.

I do feel sorry for her loyal staff that was used and betrayed. And Jeffery who was generous with her loan repayment schedule or lack thereof and willing to do whatever to help the restaurant to thrive. She had a lot of supporters on her side that she never fully deserved.

Before you watch this documentary be aware the filmmaker's are former members as well.
7 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Update after watching season 2: I changed my orginal rating of 5 to a 8 after watching the second season. This season presents a more balanced view of the group. Specifically Nancy's contributions. She's a complex woman. Obviously very smart but naive when it came to judging Keith's character and actions. I hope her and the rest of the women interviewed are able to one day move past Keith. To trust their instincts and not depend on others to feel worthwhile. To feel accomplished and loved. Keith preyed upon their fears and weaknesses. I'm happy he was stopped before he could ruin additional lives. How others can continue to support him after knowing what he did to Camila and her sister is disturbing.

This documentary is very biased. None of the former members are ever actually challenged to explain why they participated in the systemic emotional and financial abuse of others. These victims went on to victimize others. But they focus solely on their own pain and never exam the consequences' their actions had for others.

Also I dont at all trust the Sarah or Keith's story or motives. They both serve as good examples of extreme narcissism.

When the Scales of Justice are tipped.

I binged the entire series in one sitting. The professional misconduct of so many will make you rage. But more importantly, you'll gain a great appreciation for the hard work of defense attorneys that never give up.

Not for the faint of heart. The story is grizzly and morbid at times. But the conclusion is "everys got a tribe" applies.

A horrors fan "The Shape of Water"
15 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Blumhouse straight to digital release is a cozy one, perfect for an cold autumn evening. It had one of the aspects that make some of the best horror, in my opinion. Isolation...(I.E. Alien, Predator, The Thing) Better than just a cabin in the woods. This story unfolds on a deserted island. You can run, but in circles.

I appreciate never getting a full daylight view of the monster. My imagination fills in the blanks just fine thank you.

You're my BFF!
22 August 2019
I went into this movie knowing nothing about it except that John and Blythe were starring in it. This is a slow family drama. It's about the obstacles and complications of dating later in life. I really enjoyed this movie. It's quiet and simple. Ole fashion romance movie that lifts the heart.

Must Watch Documentary
11 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Much like other HBO documentaries the viewer starts off by having one opinion and by the end you're persuaded to see a different side. I was one of those people that thought Michelle was just a evil girl with a cold heart. But when the entire story is revealed and the texts (and not just those in the weeks leading up to Conrads suicide) are explained in greater context, I started to feel genuine sympathy for her. Is she culpable, yes. But I think she is mentally ill, lonely and created an entire world around her not based on reality. She needs help, not jail.

Impressive thriller!
20 June 2019
Randomly picked this movie to watch without knowing anything about it. This is a low budget straight to DVD movie. The storyline is suspenseful that keeps your attention and guessing who's actually the bad guy(s). I especially loved Kathleen McClellan , who played "Lizzy" . She was intense and unhinged without overplaying it, which could have easily ruined the scenes but she played it perfectly.

perfect little indie movie
23 May 2019
This movie fits the "indie movie" mold. Short, sweet, leaves you wanting more of these characters. Amy Seimetz is excellent, and a very believable older sister to Ellen Page. This movie had me crushing on Kate Mara to the point that I immediately followed her on Instagram.

Netflix best series of 2019
6 May 2019
Netflix finally releases a series in 2019 that isn't a teen, horror, fantasy or historical drama.

A funny, engaging dark comedy that delivers. Applegate is phenomenal and naturally funny.

8/10 Adult comedy that isnt overly raunchy or pretentious.

Irritated by the bad acting/casting/writing for the black characters
29 January 2019
Everything is so over the top. Its like the writers took every stereotypical cliche about black women (angry, jealous of white women, jealous of light skin women) and used them to excess. Its painfully cringey to watch. After 30 minutes I shut it off.

The editing and narration was pretentious
8 January 2019
We don't need a narration or explanation like we're idiots. The average person that would spends money to be entertained by a movie about a VICE President will usually come with a decent foundation of knowledge. This isn't our first rodeo.

I just feel like this could've been a great movie because of the cast, but when a specific narrative is so bluntly pushed it stops being a movie and becomes a political ad.

Thought I would hate it.
6 January 2019
The podcast was a helluva ride, so when I heard they were making a mini serious I rolled my eyes. Obviously much like when a movie is adapted from a book, it'll never live up to your first experience.

Firstly off, Eric Bana --- what time capsule they get him out of. But after a few episodes you calm down and remember he's a good actor. Meanwhile Connie Britton has a made a deal with our Dark Lord because the woman just doesnt age. If you're an OG Designing Women fan, you're already love Jean Smart.

This is a fun series. Nothing mind blowing or ground breaking. I think a next good project would be "Doctor Death". Oddly enough, Eric Bana would be a good casting choice for that lead as well.

Warning: Spoilers
My heart broke for Joe. He loved his parent dearly but understood their miseries. Joe at 14 was capable of doing what takes many a life time to accept; are parents have flaws and no matter how much they love us they can and will disappoint us. The end scene in the photo studio had me in tears it was so touching.

Paul Dano did a superb job. The entire cast was phenomenal. Carey Mulligan finest performance yet. Ed Oxenbould knocks it out of the park.

Fun, well-rounded series. My fave series of the summer. I hope there is a season 2 and they better bring back Gabrielle -- she and Joe had a unique cat and mouse chemistry. If you liked this series I highly recommend Killing Eve.

The best Netflix series released so far this year
23 June 2018
I have quit watching countless Netflix drama series after an episode or two. More often than not theres nothing that hooks the audience in. Either the plot lacks character or the characters lack heart. This Korean based series draws you in on the first episode with the introduction of the series rookies. You see what drives them and you cant help but cheer them on. This is fresh material that I havent seen on Netflix in awhile. I hope there is a season 2.

Why you should give this movie a chance despite the low rating.
31 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Hollywood really lacks good lesbian scripts that doesnt end with heartache. But what makes this worth your time is the plot and acting. Laia Costa is AHHHMAZING. Seriously her smile, the tears, the rants and farts. She is a joy to watch.

The plot is simple enough. Two women drudge thru (almost) 24 hours together. They learn more about each other than they'd probably like. Mostly I think, they learn they have to learn to love themself before they can truly love someone else. Also the scene where Laia holds her hostage in the bathroom is a huge metaphor I think. You can hold someone else emotionally hostage to make them stay around, to make them love you back.

So despite another a heart breaking movie, it does make you look into your own bad habits in relationships. Its like watching a cringy trainwreck because you kinda see yourself in each of these women.
