The Zone of Interest (2023)
Are we watching the same movie?
Thirty minutes in and no plot in sight....pretentious and over hyped. Not even artsy honestly it was just watching a man get a boat for his birthday and some gossip from a wife and her friends. So beyond boring. It angered me can't you tell? I told my fiancé that it was nominated for several oscars so let's give it a watch. We are also really into watching documentaries about the holocaust for research purposes so we were interested in this idea of the other half and how they lived in the crazy times and horrific conditions. I had hope of it being an Oscar worthy film and it was trash. Boring boring boring.
Priscilla (2023)
Did we all watch the same actress?
I hate to say it but I was so totally unimpressed with the acting skills of the young woman that played Priscilla. Her acting felt very high school play to me. Unfortunately she wasn't memorable to me or my partner. I could run into her at the store and not know who she is. Priscilla at that age was so stunning and an icon and I don't feel this actress had the confidence.
Aside from that, I thought the movie was decent. It seemed much more indie than you would think for a director of this caliber.
I'd love to research if some of the things that happened in the film really happened in real life. I know Elvis was controlling but my goodness! Some of the stuff he did was crazy!
Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story (2019)
So Unbelievably Historically Inaccurate
The whole film makes it seem like Nellie genuinely think she has anesthesia but Nellie was undercover the whole time. Why would this movie make it seem like she doesn't know what's going on? The director/writer totally makes it seem like the young doctor hijacked her opportunity to leave. And from what I read I don't see that Nellie ever tried to escape with a worker. I feel they took too many creative liberties.

A Quiet Passion (2016)
Doesn't Flow
I wish the actors and directors were more on top of their lines because there is no consistent flow to this. Each word drags on and it sends the actors aren't accustomed to speaking as they would in this era. It makes the film seem slow and poorly acted like a high school production. Not a film to watch while you happen to be sleepy.

The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)
Might have been good with a different lead actress
I was disappointed with Geraldine Viswanathan. I dont know if she has connections in Hollywood or her parents are connected. I understand the great writing will be limited when it comes to romantic comedies but she is over acting so very much it took me out of the whole movie. Zendaya would have been amazing in this I think but I am not the casting director.
The movie was so unfunny it ended up being funny for that reason. I was so pumped to watch this too!
Emma. (2020)
I am SO sad as an avid period piece fanatic
Aside from many of the actors not knowing how to deliver the lines, this could have been so lovely! The costumes are lovely and the scenery I as superb! My biggest qualm is Emma! This actress did NOT capture her likeness. Maybe it was an acting choice? Emma should not be a cruel girl or a vindictive one. The actress (who I have seen do well in many other things) totally missed the nail on the head. There was absolutely no charm to Emma...just meanness. Now don't get me wrong, Emma is NOT an angel as she is spoiled and coddled but she has charisma and charm and kindness. So disappointed. I watch absolutely every period piece and simply can't miss one! The main actress was too unlike what the character should be for me to enjoy.
Cats (2019)
Made me appreciate my least favorite musical of all time'!
I know there have been reviews dragging it but I applaud the movie for helping me to actually enjoy one of my most hated musicals. Are we forgetting that these cats were TERRIFYING on stage? I think they are cute in the movie. I loved the scenery and sets and how it brought believability to the world in the eyes of a cat!
Side note: the trailers before hand seemed oddly youthful to be shown before a movie basically about cats in heat.
