The Hunters (2013)
Cute film, made for TV
Cute film for a Made-for-TV movie. Basic premise is a group of Hunters who track down fairy tale artifacts in order to protect them and the world from their powers. Film rated PG, no cursing, no nudity, some fight scenes but no gore or blood... perfect for younger viewers. Read that it aired on Halmark which is a bit odd as it's not their usual romantic fare.
Acting is decent with some familiar faces and a few new ones; though the acting is a little cheesy at times, but then again the script isn't much of a stretch to act with and the story is somewhat formulaic. No real special effect to speak of other than the occasional glowing objects.
The film reminds me of a pilot setup for a possible series; somewhat like 'Warehouse 13' (search for mythic objects) or 'The Librarians' and a bit perhaps with a little 'Once Upon A Time' in future scripts. While the movie was released in 2013, could easily be picked up again now in 2023 with a fresh cast as a series with new story lines.
So, if looking for something a bit mindless or to entertain the kiddos for a Saturday afternoon, 'The Hunters' at 1.5 hrs might just fit.
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015)
Scientology - time for an update to this documentary
It's 2023 and I just watched this documentary 'Going Clear' about Scientology which was initially released in 2015. It's time for a follow up to this documentary as so many more things have not been included in the documentary since the release of the film on this cult.
Another well know actress Leah Remini left Scientology in 2013 and has been outspoken about it's tactics against her for being open about her experiences in this 'church'; as well as an outstanding lawsuit against the church in 2023.
Actor Tom Cruises marriage to Katie Holmes ended in 2012 and Tom has essentially separated from all connection to his young daughter Suri as she's not following in Scientology, he's had no contact with her at all.
After watching this documentary, you will have to wonder how the IRS continues to classify this organization as a religion, exempt from paying taxes; it's time for that policy to change.

Alternate ending more interesting
Just caught this film. Acting by Driver and the young girl was good, CGI was very fine with the flora and fauna, the various dino's were well done and scary....most of us would survive 5 min. In that world.
Spoilers begin here:
However, I was a somewhat disappointed and underwhelmed by the ending. Thought it was a somewhat bland... they rocket off the planet into space into relative safety.
Had two thoughts about an alternate ending:
1) At the end as the world evolved over time, might have had some kids exploring the local rock formations and find Koa's (the young girl) rock drawing of her parents next to the drawing of the mountain... and then wonder who had left them and what they were like.
2) the second alternate ending would be to find the 2nd missing life pod, a woman is in it, wake her up, then get into the escape rocket to avoid the asteroid till it was safe, then land again. ... all of this happening 65million years ago, after which they survive on the planet, most of the dino threats are gone from the asteroid, and the three of them become new inhabitants of this planet. They look up into the sky and see the moon and low and behold, it's our man-in-the moon over our earth and this family becomes the new 'Adam and Eve' (pun intended, Adam Driver) and daughter Koa, and they become the first ancestors of our planet.
Film was a good B-movie all in all.
Tangled (2010)
Make 'Tangled' into a live action Movie
Just rewatched this animation and had a thought - Disney should make this story into a live action Movie with the actors from the animation movie: Mandy Moore as Repunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn. It could happen and might be a big hit.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Strange film, but can't turn my eye's away.
This is a very strange film, but I can't seem to turn my eye's away for fear I'll miss something important or well, strange. But, stick with it, it will begin to make sense toward the end in the last quarter.
Great casting and I was super surprised and pleased to see Ke Huy Quan in one of the primary roles; always considered him an interesting child actor but then he seemed to disappear from the screen. As he has been reported to have said that after his childhood roles, there just didn't seem to be any opportunities for him again in acting, so he turned to behind the scenes. Would be really interesting to see him reprise his role as 'Short Round' in the next Indiana Jones film, but now as an adult.
Michelle Yeoh is of course impeccable in anything she's in, and Jamie Lee Curtis is a hoot as a government IRS agent. Story line with so many costumes and scenery changes must have been as confusing to keep up with as it was to watch it all. Expect I'll be seeing different scenes of the film in my memory again and again for a few days.
It's an odd film, might even consider Art House worthy, but I'm hoping you will also think it was worth sticking through all the crazy scenes and costumes till you get to the end and the purpose of the film. Best quote is 'Be kind, especially when you don't know what's going on. '
On - drakon (2015)
Stunningly beautiful film reminds of an old world fairy tale.
This film reminds me of an old world fairy tale story, where love eventually conquers all or will it? Film has beautiful cinematography, wonderful historic costumes, and the acting of the two lead actors is very well done.
Story is mostly defined in the synopsis... bride is captured by a dragon on her wedding day; will she survive? Is the Dragon really a dragon? Will she be rescued by her true love?
Be advised the film is in Russian, with English subtitles, but it really doesn't bother the action on the screen; in fact I love hearing the native language, it adds so much more to the cultural aspect of the film than being dubbed to English.
I've watched this film twice online, might just have to watch it a third time.
Time Trap (2017)
Enjoyed flick, nice story about a fountain of youth.
Have seen this on my feed for a while and just went past... opted to watch today. Not a bad story, bunch of folks head down caves in search of a lost professor who went in search of a bunch of hippies who disappeared years ago; the hippies were following a legend about the fountain of youth being in the area. While in the caves, they realize time progresses in a different way and get stuck in a time trap, thus the title 'Time Trap'. In the cave they find others who have also gotten stuck in the time trap over the years.
Do the students get rescued or not? Are they stuck in the caves forever? And if they are rescued, how has time progressed up above the caves?
Some of the acting is better than others, some of the written lines are better than others. Budget is moderate with limited special effects. All in all, found the movie entertaining for 1.5 hrs. Check it out.
After the Ball (2015)
Cute for something light and funny
'After the Ball' is a cute film if you are looking for something light and funny. Caught on from the film description that this would be a take on Shakespeare's comedy 12th Night, where the heroine dresses as a male and the intrigues begin from there.
If your into films in the fashion industry, this is no 'The Devil Wears Prada', but does include a lot of the business of fashion in the story line...though don't count on it being completely believable.
Lots of story holes and plot deadends, but it's a light film, so whatever. Actors are adequate, some a bit over the top silly. Best actor in the film is veteran Mimi Kuzyk, as the Godmother.
Check if out if seeking something lightly amusing.
