Totally missable
23 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this advertised I was ready to write it off but I thought, what the hell watch a couple of episodes just to see, I watched the pilot and and thought it was laughably bad (I immediately renamed the main character bimbette in my mind) then I picked a random episode (number 8) to see if they ever found their way it did after all contain a story about Bimbette's own father needing treatment so we might get some good character development, they did not, the episode in question was terrible.

The entire premise of this series seems to be a love triangle that no one cares about, neither pairing is any good and the 'chemistry' is non-existent. The worst part for me is when Bimbette goes on about how the scariest part in the wizard of Oz was the realisation that there was no Oz... (oops does that count as a spoiler?) it was supposed to tell us about her as a person and all I got from it was that she was pretentious.

If I could give this a minus score I would, if you want good medical drama stick to House, Casualty (a brit series), Greys Anatomy or even some old school ER.

William & Kate (2011 TV Movie)
8/10
Typical RomCom but...
24 April 2011
... I liked it.

After being led to believe that the entire film was going to make me cringe I am surprised to say that there was only one scene I had real trouble with... prizes to those that guess which scene it was... and other than that I rather liked it. Camilla and Nico are not convincing as the real Will and Kate but after all the cliché films like The Prince and Me I think we are used to silly romances that involve the trial and tribulations of marrying royalty.

The movie was gentle to both the real life figures showing neither of them in a bad light, the romance was sweet and believable with funny moments and nice settings.

There have been many complaints about their accents (which weren't too bad) and the fact that they look nothing like their counterparts but that was part of the charm for me. It took it away from the real people and made it simply a sweet film about two young people in love which is a nice way to think about the royal couple. I hope to see more from both the leads again as it's always interesting to get fresh faces in the movie world, and Camilla definitely had charm.

Exactly what I expected.
15 October 2010
I never intended to watch this film but a combination of food poisoning and boredom led me to pulling out a friends DVD's. To be honest I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but if you needed a definition of predictable this film could be used.

The doe-eyed American (who is dissatisfied with her lot in life) visiting Italy with her fiancé felt almost painful to watch, you knew the lot of this couple before one minute was up. Her aimless wanderings through Verona lead her to Juliet's wall and then on to discover the people who answer the letters, her teary eyed response to discovering the letter made me want to throw up and it had nothing to do with the food poisoning.

Next we meet Charlie who cannot perform a decent British accent to save his life (luckily this might never be an issue for him) he is the classic Darcy, slightly unhappy past, cold, and slightly snobby but with a heart of gold. He seems to be attempting a Hugh Grant in Notting Hill act as he has trouble f-formulating s-sentences when talking from the heart. He is the complete antithesis of her 'passionate about all things food' and seemingly carefree fiancé. Charlie and Sophie have the classic, I hate you, relationship so we all knew where that would go.

The only reason for this film getting any stars is the ever delightful and completely at ease Vanessa Redgrave playing Clare, beautiful throughout all her life, both Clare and her 'Lorenzo' brought tears even to this cynics eyes.

Ultimately this film is not worth wasting any money on but, if it comes on TV you might like to give it a try.

Thank god it's over!
1 September 2010
This mini series was to my mind a complete waste of time and money.

The series started off reasonably well, a decent amount of mystery, a few likable characters and a group of actors whose previous work I have loved. It all went down hill pretty soon, I had no respect for the characters who were more concerned with their own personal agenda's and social problems than with the mission in hand. The script had a couple of amusing moments but for the most part dropped and I was able to predict with absolute accuracy which characters would and wouldn't survive the series. The 'frantic' efforts to get the sub going was pretty hilarious and had me yelling at the screen "Stop wasting time!" a sure sign that I was wasting mine.

Surprisingly it was the unknowns (pretty much unknown to me) in the group that kept me interested in this, I found myself fast forwarding through the Minnie, Goran, Orla and James moments to get to the people that interested me.

Finally the ending was predictable and had me relieved that the series wouldn't ever continue, I am incredibly surprised that the BBC churned out this rubbish but then again they are responsible for the recent travesty known as 'Alice and her six dads' a reality show that was really just a showcase for a self obsessed bride.

Completely unexpected!
11 August 2010
I am in awe of Katey Sagal. I've loved her as a comic actress for so long that this show really threw me. The first episode I ever saw was season one episode six (Skateboard scene), she was amazing, crazy, strong and vulnerable all at the same time. Quite a shock for someone who thought she was a great mother figure in 8 simple rules... I immediately started to search for past episodes online and continued to watch each episode as it came out. She and Ron were a perfect match, there's chemistry between them and in every scene they are together they steal the show. Charlie Hunnam is convincing as an American despite his British origins (I know he's been acting in America a few times but the accent's hard to lose, trust me!) and he's got a great talent, he's totally believable as a new single father.

With it's subject matter this show could have been so much darker but there's humour throughout it all. Every character is well rounded and perfectly cast.

I recommend this show to people all the time and now I do it here to, with it's amazing season 2 ending I have been on edge for weeks now. September's on it's way and so is season 3, I can't wait!!!

Why do people have a problem with this film?
20 June 2008
I don't get why people have a problem with this movie, I know some say it glorifies violence, drugs and underage sex but that just isn't true. People don't seem to see that things are really like this, the film highlights what the world is really like in some places.

I went to a school where things were very similar to the movie, bullying was rife and violent, being high in class was easy to get away with and buying the drugs even easier. Being a virgin past the age of sixteen meant that you were frigid, and being religious in any way, (like I am) meant that you were obviously a freak. What can I say, I really identify with the girl at the beginning.

When I watched this movie I was happy to see someone truthfully portraying the mindset and situation of many young people today.

I am not saying that everyone lives like this in England, thats not true. There are many different ways of living in the UK and this film demonstrates one particular life style. It is however very relevant, people need to see that we don't all live like characters from more lighthearted films.

I look forward to seeing Adulthood as I am sure that it will be just as well done!

Due South (1994–1999)
10/10
One of my favourite TV series.
17 August 2007
I remember watching this series when I was a kid, my entire family would sit down to watch it together.

These two series were the best, Fraser and Ray worked well together and there were great episodes that had me laughing out loud. I recently bought series 1 and 2 online and was glad to discover that if anything they were now funnier, also now that I am older I am able to appreciate more why women fall for Fraser at the age of 10 I didn't quite recognise how attractive he is and how rare it is to find a guy who opens doors for people. The second series benefited from the addition of Camilla Scott I know some people didn't like her but I thought her character very funny and enjoyed episodes with her in them the most.

The 1st and 2nd seasons are excellent and if you get the chance to watch or purchase these i would recommend that you do.

Due South (1994–1999)

I missed the original ray,
17 August 2007
The last two series of due south were for the most part filmed without the original Ray (David Marciano), instead we had a ridiculous and unbelievable story about Stanley kowalski (callum Keith Rennie)replacing him while he was undercover. This was made worse by the new "Ray" being in contact with his, (Stanley's) ex wife, and often blowing his cover to random strangers (season 1 episode 2 eclipse).

Having said all this I did find some of the episodes quite good "mountie on the bounty" was funny and enjoyable as was "dr longball".

But I did miss the original Ray and somehow Fraser seemed more normal around the the quirky Stanley kowalski.

only 5 out of 10 for this.

so bad it's embarrassing
23 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of bad movies, my father and I regularly watch a movie because it has a terrible review.

There were many funny moments for example the lines "it was dusk I could tell 'cause the sun was going down" and "I did the only thing a trained American agent could, I got the hell outta there." But the whole movie felt somewhat pointless.

I know many people have stood up for the movie saying that it has real comedic value but this movie was so bad i just felt embarrassed watching it was actually painful. In the last ten minutes the movie does improve but I do think that, that may have been because most of the characters were dead.

could have been excellent
28 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I remember reading this book hundreds of times when I was younger and I have just recently seen this movie, I have to say I was disappointed. They changed the characters completely and instead of having two sisters and a brother going to stay with their uncle they made one of the sisters a grumpy American cousin going to stay with her recently remarried dad. This changed the whole aspect of the story and I was immediately annoyed.

I watched the whole thing in hopes of some redemption and I have to admit it had its good moments but it definitely lost out on some wonderful humour between the sisters and brother.

This series works if you have never read the books but if you grew up with and loved the books do not watch this.

Hollyoaks (1995– )
9/10
actually a pretty good show
9 September 2006
My sisters and I love to watch Hollyoaks all together. At first I was a bit put off as it all seemed a bit stereotypical but I have come to love it despite that. The humour is fun and the story lines rarely get too serious which is a nice change from soaps that insist on always being a bit too depressing.

Every now and then they do have a storyline that has us jumping for joy or staring in dismay. The recent fire was incredibly dramatic and we almost cried over some of the departed characters.

The acting can be a bit off at times but ultimately this is a great soap to watch if you want to relax and suspend reality after a long day at work or school.

by the way the fact that most of the guys are quite cute doesn't spoil it at all!

The Adventures of Sinbad (1996–1998)
9/10
embarrassingly I loved this show.
31 July 2006
I used to watch this show with my little brother on Saturday mornings before I left for work, I loved the first season!!! Sinbad was as usual white but he was attractive and made me laugh, his brother was equally funny and I loved seeing the two of them and the way they would tease each other. Maeve was independent and I really think the show suffered without her, her replacement Bryn was likable but somehow I just really missed the chemistry Maeve and Sinbad had.

All the other characters were funny (and the only reason I watched the second series in full) and fit in well with the rest of the cast and the story lines.

I loved the awful affects which made it so fun to watch, it was just like an old Sinbad movie. I would love season one on DVD as it is funny but mindless TV that is good to watch after a long day at work but I wouldn't bother with season two as i would find my self skipping all the scenes with Bryn in them (horrible to write but true).

Watch it but realise that it is tongue in cheek.

The Magnificent Seven (1998–2000)

Soon I shall own this
7 June 2006
I am not a huge fan of many American TV series but this one was so good I am completely hooked.

I have been a fan of westerns forever, my dad and I used to sit up at midnight watching them together and Magnificent seven was our favourite. Trust me this series is just as good as the originals though a little more tongue in cheek.

I love the way the actors really seem to be enjoying what they are doing and they all fit into their characters so well. The script is written so well and the conversation when the seven are sitting together is hilarious, as is JD's romance with Casey.

I can't wait to receive my DVD and I am so glad it's finally come out the tapes I made of it have run a little ragged.

You'll either love it or hate it.
14 May 2006
My Dad was the one who forced me to watch this movie and I am really glad he did. This movie is one of the worst movies ever to grace the screen.

I guess so far none of this makes sense but if you enjoy watching old movies to laugh at cheesy effects (which I do) you will love this movie. The reason this movies is so good is a combination of wobbly gravestones, bad cuts, terrible scripts and strange transitions from night to day.

Of course my favourite factor is how the director thought no one would notice if the dark haired main actor who died was replaced with a blonde man much taller than him. As though a few casual seeming sweeps of his cloak in front of his face and no one would ever know.

This movie will forever remain one of my favourites, watch it not in the serious context that is intended but as though Mel Brooks directed it to mock the genre and you will love it.

Plus a good drinking game can be played to this movie so bring out the vodka and enjoy (only if you are old enough though).

Alien Autopsy (2006)
10/10
I just saw this movie and....
12 April 2006
... I can't understand why some people gave it such bad reviews.

This is an excellent film, OK it isn't a movie that makes you laugh till you cry, nor is it a movie with huge depth, but it was so much fun. The jokes are not a mile a minute but the movie wouldn't work that way, this is subtle comedy and that needs to be understood.

My two younger sisters (12 and 14) came to see it with me and they enjoyed it just as much as I did. Ant and Dec were really good, Dec as the slightly cocky half of the duo and Ant as usual being the intelligent and safer one. I have loved these actors since their Byker Grove days and it is so good to see them acting again.

The mock up of the actual autopsy is hilarious as silly interruptions stop the filming I am laughing now as I remember it. The way the fake comes together with their friends all having something to contribute really seems to work.

The camera work as they film seemingly secret interviews with CIA operatives is great and the oddball characters all fit in so well.

I am appalled that I nearly did not got to see it so I recommend that people go to see it and draw their own conclusions.

could have been brilliant
7 March 2006
This film sadly disappointed me.

I rented it one night ready to enjoy good acting and gripping story and the wonderful Hugh Dancy, Bob Hoskins, Jessica Alba and Emily Mortimer. I really expected to love this film but somehow I was not satisfied.

The acting was not up to standard with only Hugh and Emily really showing any of the skill I know them to have. Jessica was not at all suited to the role she lacked all the reserve a woman from Borneo would have had at that time.

The film was too rushed and in parts completely unbelievable I am afraid to say that after this Jessica has fallen dramatically in my estimation,

The perfect fairytale
10 January 2006
This really is the perfect fairytale Giants, Swordsmen, Pirates, True Love, Monsters, Kidnap, An evil Prince and a beautiful Princess this movie had it all. I remember as a child I recorded this and watched it again and again I cried when the tape got eaten by the machine(Thank goodness for DVDs).

I have loved this movie since I was about six years old and it has improved with age, some of the jokes seem so much funnier now. I love to watch it with my little brother because we can both enjoy it even if it is for different reasons sometimes.

I recommend it to everyone I can think of very few people who wouldn't enjoy it and the actors are all brilliant Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Robin Wright-Penn, Peter Falk, Mel Smith and Billy Crystal all have the comedy while remaining true to the fairy tale ideal.

Broken Arrow (1996)

It's the villain who makes this movie so good.
9 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
It has to be said that I was forced to watch this movie by an old boyfriend of mine, it really didn't look like my kind of thing but John Travolta's excellent performance had me hooked.

Travolta is the kind of villain all movies should have, from his fantastic one-liners to the final showdown at the end he makes the movie worth watching.

Slater makes a good hero but he is definitely not equal to Travolta but his teaming up with Samantha Mathis (as the innocent civilian who comes along for the ride) is well done and the two have obvious on screen chemistry.

On the whole a good movie but it would have been nothing without Travolta.
