Gerry (2002)
Awful, horrendous, not even the biggest Damon and Affleck fan could stomach
I went into this movie excited and well aware that it was not a fast moving action thriller. Well that is putting it lightly, there is probably 10 words spoken in the entire movie. If your looking to watch moving pictures literally or like the idea of watching beautiful landscapes for two hours, than this movie may just be for you. Some say that this is the first of Van Sant's latest trio and should be honored for its avant-garde style and lack of Hollywood proto-type. I am not a Hollywood fanatic, but I do think they got one thing right in making movies when they decided to start using dialog. I believe a movie needs a driving force, something compelling the viewer to keep watching, something that resonates for them, with Gerry the only thing the viewer waits for is the credits.
Wasteland (2002)
An attempt at teen angst falls flat
The movie was made by some Rutgers college students as a first attempt at making a motion picture. And as they say practice makes perfect, so perhaps these aspiring filmmakers have something hidden up their sleeves in the near future, but as for now its yet to be seen. The movie moves as slow as molasses, it has nothing to draw you in, no intrigue, no real plot, no quick one liners, nada. You can see the director trying to add an artistic touch with the use of color, but again it feels false with a push of dramatic colors that has no real place in this dead story. It was a torturous 2 hrs, I would not recommend it to anyone.
