Red Dawn (2012)
Most unnecessary remake ever, almost...
From top to bottom, this movie is absolutely terrible. I have never seen a more unnecessary remake done so terribly except for "The Stepford Wives (2004)" which belongs in its own category for complete awfulness. There is nothing good about this movie, it has no saving graces. The acting, directing, story, script, props, you name it are terrible. It's no wonder MGM almost went out of business financing a piece of garage like this. It is total trash like this that makes me not care one bit if the entire Hollywood system gets turned on its head like the music industry did, these morons expect people to pay their hard earned money for this junk and wonder why more people don't go to the theater. Keep making movies like this and your business will fail, it is only a matter of time before they are selling movies online for .99c and that is what the movie industry deserves. Oh wait, they already are ;)
Armageddon (1998)
Truly one of the worst movies ever...
The main user review on the title page says that most people don't like this movie because they don't believe the premise of the story. Well, I for one don't have a problem with the premise at all and I in fact actually quite enjoyed "Deep Impact" a movie that's only similarity is *the premise* of the story. This movie sucks in so many ways there's not enough space for me to mention them all; the acting is Godawful, even the seasoned veterans are terrible, the dialog is awful, the special effects are so unbelievable I felt like I was watching a video game, the love story is goofy at best and has no emotional impact whatsoever. This movie was created for people that think professional wrestling is good entertainment and if I were one of them I would be offended by how terrible this movie is.
The reviewer is right about one thing, NASA does use this movie...they use it as an example of "what ***NOT*** to do in space".
Unfaithfully Yours (1984)
Not funny at all
I haven't watched this movie all the way through since I saw it at the theater when it was new and I was totally blown away by just how *not* funny the movie is. I have tried over the years to watch this movie again and maybe get a new perspective of it but I can't watch more than 5-10 minutes of it on television before I have to flip the channel. The basic premise of the movie is the same as every episode of "Three's Company" where one misinterpreted situation leads to an unintended chain of events that are supposed to be humorous but mostly they are not. In this movie, a newly married man goes to great lengths to plot and carry out murdering his much younger wife and framing her (supposed) lover who also happens to be his best friend which I don't find humorous instead I find it rather disturbing. It should have been a horror film, the premise would have worked better in that format. In the end we are supposed to feel sorry for this guy and understand why someone could easily make the same mistake he did....WTF? Yet even with a terrible story, if you like watching Dudley Moore act drunk or high and falling/stumbling all over almost every scene then you might like this movie...
Hart's War (2002)
Started out promising but ended up terrible
This is one of the most disappointing movies I have ever seen, the reason I say this is because it started out really awesome and then slowly turned into a terrible movie that is totally forgettable. I would say that the movie is actually really good up to the point when the African-American prisoners are brought into the prisoner of war camp and then what started out as a really interesting movie about the conditions of POW's in WWII turns into some kind of misguided statement about racism. In the end, I couldn't really understand what kind of statement or message this movie was trying to make. On the one hand it seemed to be about the inequality of US soldiers during WWII but on the other hand that whole thing was just a cover-up for some clandestine sabotage operation. The ending was completely unbelievable but by that point I didn't care because I wanted to watch a "War" movie not a courtroom drama about racism that was just a sideshow to hide an operation that no one, watching the movie, knows about until the very end(and it wasn't one of those "wow, what a cool endings" either, it was just a "WTF just happened?" ending that was stupid. I seriously doubt that this movie was an accurate portrayal of how POW's, even of different races, would treat one another.
Conclusion, to make a long post even longer ;), This movie starts out really good and you think you are about to see a really awesome WWII movie but instead you have been tricked and what you end up with is a boring courtroom drama that in then in is completely meaningless because it was just a cover-up for some larger goal, and top off the stupidity the unarmed Bruce Willis character walks unopposed back into the prison camp, through the front gate...seriously, and basically let's himself get killed. This movie makes me mad because from the beginning you can tell this thing had potential and then someone, I guess the writers and director just quit caring about making sense and just told a complete fiction and nothing even remotely close to a good fictional WWII movie like "Inglorious Basterds".
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Seasons 1 and 2: Awesome, Seasons 3 and 4: ?
After watching the first 2 seasons of this series, I was prepared for it to become my favorite science fiction series of all time possibly even better than the great "Babylon 5" and then Season 3 came out. Season 3 actually started out rather well but as soon as the "New Caprica" storyline ended the series took a rather unexpected sharp turn into mediocre and even downright awful episodes. I have never seen a show go from being so good to so bad as quickly as this one did. What was once promised to be a show grounded in the reality of this fictional universe turned into some kind of unexplainable pseudo religious nonsense. Disappointed is too nice of a word to describe how I felt about what happened to this series, the writers really dropped the ball on this one and no matter what I or many others say here and other places, they will always pat themselves on the back and be proud of this awful mess of a series they made. I will however still give credit where credit is due and Seasons 1 and 2 are awesome so I guess the writers have a right to be proud of those.
