Dead Famous (2004)
The show is missing a skeptical person if you ask me.
In some of the posts, I see people saying that "They don't freak out at the slightest sounds." We must be watching different shows. One of the biggest problems that I see in this show is Gail "The skeptic" hears a slight creek in the place they're investigating, she screams, and runs. Even leaves the shoot to go back to her motel on occasion. If she's a "skeptic" would she run? Or investigate the noise and explain it as non-paranormal. This is where the show doesn't work. Gail Porter is not a skeptic. I like her, she seems very cool. She's a great narrator, but she's far from a skeptic. It's true, Chris's ego does show itself often. Even Jim Morrison recognized it in the episode where they were searching for him. (That was a hilarious moment) I like the show okay, if there's nothing else on. But it would be better if they had three people on the show. Chris the sensitive, A skeptic, and Gail the frightened little narrator.
The Amityville Horror (2005)
True Story??? NOT!!!
The only things that even closely resemble the original Amityville horror book to this 2005 remake of the 1979 movie are the fact that George Lutz goes berserk, and the house has two really spooky looking pie shaped windows!!! Otherwise this movie is very much "Based" on a true story. But keep in mind that the Lutzes have since, admitted that the whole haunted house thing was a hoax. But don't let this sway you from going to see this extremely spooky, highly entertaining movie. The original Amityville movie with Kidder/Brolin did try to stay more true to the book, it was a pretty good movie, but wasn't terribly scary (Unless you factor in Brolins overacting) "Amityville 05" doesn't go for the "true story" aspect, it just tries to scare the heck out of you, and does a darn good job of it...As a fan of the books and movies about Amityville, I walked into the theater totally expecting for the movie to suck...It proved me wrong within 15 minutes. I liked it so much, I saw it twice...I never go to the theater twice, but "Amityville 05" is just one of those movies you have to see on the big screen...If I were to have one thing negative to say about this movie, it's the fact that all of the DeFeo children were killed in their beds. (Not in closets) And Jody wasn't the name of a child, it was an imaginary friend that manifested as a pig to the Lutzes daughter...The Jody character in "05" does add a new air of creepies to the movie, but the pig could've added a nice twist as well...I read "The Amityville Horror" twice back in the 70's, as well as "Amityville...Horror or Hoax" by Dr. Stephen Kaplan. I also read "High Hopes the story of the Amityville murders" by Gerard Sullivan and Harvey Aronson. I highly recommend these books if you love the movie, and get the newly released "Amityville Collection" box set DVD. Not so much for the movies (Amityvile 1-2 and 3) but for the 2 History channel documentaries included in the box. They are excellent and cover the whole Amityville story to a tee...
