Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Romero's masterpiece
Night of the living dead was the film that influenced the horror genre. Even though the film is in black and white and was created in 1968 it still has the atmosphere needed to scare the living daylights out of todays generation.
The film begins with a brother and sister taking a trip to visit their fathers grave in a cemetery in the Pittsburgh countryside. The couple are attacked by what seems to be a drunk human being, untold to the couple the being that attacked them was a walking corpse. The sister runs from the beast leaving the brother for death, but the figure follows her. She stumbles upon a deserted barn house. After looking around the house she discovers a young black man named Ben who is also taking cover in the house. Ben boards up the house hoping its secure enough to last the night. Ben checks out the upstairs and finds a decapitated body lying on the landing. After disposing of it he hears a noise from downstairs. It turns out there are another 5 people who have been hiding in the basement. After much collaboration they join forces. After listening to the radio, they realised that the ghouls walking outside are in fact the dead which have returned and are seeking human flesh and that they have risen due to radiation from a satellite. In the cellar lies a young girl who has fallen ill due to an attack by one of the ghouls. There only hope of survival is to get to the gas pump outside and fill up the truck, and escort the girl to the nearest hospice. After there attempt to get the gas fails, the house is left open for the zombies to feast. Ben locks himself in the cellar as the only one left. As dawn comes so does rescue and zombie shooting seems to be a sport! Ben unlocks the cellar door only to be shot by the rescue party who mistake him for one of the dead.
Chicago (2002)
wonderful,magical and magnificent !!
Chicago tells the tale of the murderesses Velma Kelly and Roxie Heart. Velma Kelly is in the block for killing her husband and her sister who she found in bed together whereas Roxie is down the block for shooting her boyfriend because he didn't keep his promise of making her a star. Whilst in prison both characters meet a variety of different characters including Matron Momma Morton(Queen Latifah) and the silver tongued lawyer of the courtroom Mr Billy Flinn(Richard Gere). Proving the saying correctly "You only have 15 minutes of fame" Chicago portrays life in the block extravagantly yet comically. Coming out of this with nothing is Mr Cellophane Amos, Roxies invisible husband. With a variety of wonderful, magical and magnificent songs such as Cell block tango, All that Jazz, We both reached for the gun and roxie, Chicago is definitely one of the more memorable musicals and probably the greatest since grease and dirty dancing!!!!!
Mitsuteru yokoyama's sangokushi (1991)
breath taking chinease history!!
The romance of the three kingdoms is an in-depth and wonderful insight into chinease history and the three kingdoms of ancient china. It tells the tale of the three leaders of china. Sun jian, the tiger of jiang dong and ruler of wu, lui bei, ruler of shu and finally the masterful Cao, magnificent and epic ruler of Wei. It shows their life's from their very first campaign against the yellow turbans to their eventual rise.It expresses the scheming alliances made and the sincerity of the generals. It shows the munificent strategies used to overcome the most difficult of situations and the weapons and castles used to get there, also made into the game series, Dynasty warriors. From the mighty lu be to the virtuous guan yu, This is a must see.
Stand by Me (1986)
Pure excellence, My favourite film
Stand by me shows a time of innocence not only through the astounding acting from the four main characters but from the setting of the film and also from the soundtrack. Set in the 50's, stand by me follows four boys: Chris Chambers(River Phoenix), Geordie Lachance(Will Wheaton), Teddy Duchamp(Corey Fieldman) and Vern Tessio(Jerry O'Connel)on there journey to fine the body of a missing boy. On their way they encounter many obstacles both mentally and physical ones that bring the boys closer together. Based on the novella "The Body" by Stepehen King, Stand by me shows what true coming of age is really about, Friendship and fun. A truly magnificent film that is a definite must watch!
