Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Strangely addictive
I watched the pilot to kill some time, because you know; netflix and chill. It didn't turn out that bad. Five episodes in, I must admit that the plot is good. It's captivating and works for one's beast-fantasy-other-worlds appetite. The visual effects are good enough to not irk you but could have been much better.
What will bother you? The god awful acting. Just truly awful at times, well most of the times.
What else will bother you? The god awful dialogues. The never ending cheesy lines.
But the show is still watchable and has great potential (perhaps even more with a different set of cast).
The Big Bang Theory: The Opening Night Excitation (2015)
Finally a good episode
Big Bang Theory had been slipping away and the writers seem to have finally revived the show. Sheldon's character which has been in a rut for over a few seasons now, thankfully moves ahead.
The episode craftily leads to the "end-game" where both Amy and Sheldon don't seem to be rushed but ready. The Star Wars intro was quite apt and hilarious.
This episode will give you a few good chuckles (unlike the last few seasons!) and a hope for better episodes in the future. (Finally!)
The rest of the cast were bang on and the parallel reactions in the end was quite smart and funny.
A good, refreshing, much needed episode.
Quantico (2015)
Just a plain drama in the end.
There are two shows I'm currently watching which follow similar storyline as Quantico's; The Blacklist and Homeland.
The Blacklist shows the protagonist in a similar situation where Elizabeth Keene is trying to prove her innocence while being hunted down by the FBI etc. However, The Blacklist shows the hide and chase routine with much superior conviction and thrilling twists and ingenious methods to keep the viewers hooked.
Homeland, on the other hand, will keep you guessing, will build up the tension and drive you right up to the edge of the cliff and end the episode(s) with a diabolical smile.
Both of these shows are ingrained with a powerful script and breathtaking performances by the actors.
Unfortunately, Quantico would make you feel like you're back in class where time doesn't seem to pass by. Priyanka Chopra's reactions sometime will induce an impromptu drum-roll background in your head, of which Ekta Kapoor would be proud. Quantico is good for viewers who are looking for a good light-drama without an intricate plot and much expectations.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
A great show once, an embarrassment now.
The Big Bang Theory started off as a unique, captivating sitcom especially for nerds like me who cherished the jokes on interference pattern, quantum theory or be it the limbic system. The show kept its qualities intact, its jokes at par and the acting believable.
Fast forward a few seasons (around season 7, if I recall correctly) and it became a regressive, boring sitcom where the actors seem uninterested, the jokes non-existent. It makes me wonder if there are even writers for this show. The current season is as dreadful as the last season and will make you realize the importance of the time you just wasted watching it.
Watching an episode of the initial seasons and the current season/last season is comparable to hearing Adele and Rebecca Black sing.
