Great, scary and unique
22 April 2022
This is a great watch. Kind of like Tales from the Crypt but totally different as well. A series of vignettes tied together very uniquely. Eric Roberts has a great role. Shane Woodson has a very entertaining film that I hear is winning awards on the festival circuit as well.

Notes: Britt Prentice is great as the sidekick friend to Rey Marz's character who is very good. And Drew Hale is very strong also.

Rollerball (1975)
3/10
From the love montage on down, POOR.
21 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Considered edgy for its time, it doesn't really hold water. It feels like it was made in 1965 but it was actually made in 1975. Its futuristic feel is really antiquated and cliché'. The repainted football helmets, shoulder pads and baseball catchers leg guards were a cheap cop out. The skates look like rentals from the roller rink.

As far as overall story, it's symbolism was strong and had truth but it gets under-minded with a poor package of cheesiness and predictable plot line. The action scenes were poor and felt contrived. Some of the game sequences were insultingly weak.

The acting was one dimensional with almost every character. Houseman was good and so was Gunn but again cliché'. Caan was never a great actor but in this role he is blah at best. His character arc is so overdone and predictable. Certain places were dying of dialog, others there was too much. Maud Adams was beautiful and the camera loves her but she is only passable as an actress.

The good symbolism get lost in the mix of mediocre characters, lame action, child-like plot and pathetic sets, props and wardrobe. And what's the symbolism in a blurry freeze of Caan at the end and then zooming in on it TWICE! With horror organ music underscoring the blur-face. C'Mon. It's almost comical to watch now. From the crappy love montage on down a flawed predictable film.

Blubberella (2011)

I wonder how some films get financed.

This film obviously had a budget. They filmed on location in Croatia, more sets than I can remember, and even paid Ron Howard's creepy bro to be horrible in it- but how does this film get made??? Set in WWII but there are laptops, they have sex with clothes on but it's supposed to be real with orgasm, they are slapping people as a running gag but it was never funny. The editing was so disjointed...or was it the actual plot. And just because you're fat doesn't necessarily mean you are funny. A fat dancing woman isn't always funny either. All these over-the-top characters aren't funny because the actors don't go all the way with them. They don't have the training and confidence so it doesn't fly. And people are drifting in and out of accents so you don't know if it's a gag or if they are just bad. I say it's all bad, an unfunny comedy with a terrible plot, horrid acting and disjointed filmmaking.

Old Dogs (I) (2009)

Old Dogs is a dawg.

This is one of the WORST films I've ever seen. They "jump the shark" IN EVERY SCENE. Just goes to show that even an all-star cast cannot save a bad script. And it truly is an all-star with Travolta, Robin Williams, Bernie Mack, Rita Wilson, Seth Green, Ann-Margaret, etc. There are so many other family films starring Travolta alone that are better. All the gags they did in the film were cliché and over done. I never thought I'd say this but Robin Williams was terrible. Travolta was blah-never thought I'd say that either. Bernie Mack was so miss-used that you didn't laugh at a single thing he did on screen. And the kids in the film were not cute or lovable enough. Don't waste your time or money on this.
