Mixed feelings

An amazing interpretation of Sérgio Praia, I found the script to be ok. Although with a majof fault. It spends a lot of time showing the struggle to record with a major studio and, it ends up not explaining how he managed to get rid of that record company and (most of all) it never explains how he got the 'Variações' name. Where it came from? How does a biographical movie leaves this detail out?

Technically, I was far from impressed with the cinematography. Specially when he his youth place, the blown up lights in such a way that spoils any sharpness of the image was a very poor decision.

These details are the reason why I can't git it a better score.

Porquê Anna Faris???

O filme é realmente um filme interessante. A nível de produção não compromete, a nível de mistura de som, existe algumas alturas em que se faz sentir o que acaba por não ser propriamente bom.

Por outro lado, não consigo compreender a paixão que Holliwood tem por Anna Faris. Compreendo que ela se esforce para fazer um bom trabalho mas, nas cenas mais dramáticas, não posso deixar de sentir alguma falsidade nas suas expressões.

Por outro lado, tenho que dar umas palavras de apreço por Chris Evans. Por alguma razão, ele não parece ter muita pontaria na escolha dos guiões. isto porque tão depressa faz filmes muito bons como faz filmes com menos conteúdo. Não obstante, neste caso, apesar de estarmos perante um filme muito típico e sem nada de novo em cinema, acredito que a sua interpretação afigurou-se, não só como uma mais-valia, como uma pedra basilar desta produção. Sem a qual, o filme não teria metade do interesse.

Numa nota final, tenho a lamentar o minúsculo papel de Zachary Quinto cujas interpretações gosto muito e creio que ele merecia um papel muito mais preponderante.

Esperava Melhor

Tenho muita pena que não tenha aparecido a personagem do Green Lantern a qual me foi dado a crer que apareceria aquando do lançamento dos filmes para de cada personagem.

Para além desta desilusão inicial, fiquei também um pouco desiludido com o argumento. Efectivamente que as personagens retiveram toda a sua personalidade especialmente o Tony Stark (interpretado por Robert Downey Jr.) manteve o seu cómico caracter. No entanto, a história em si poderia ter sido mais bem trabalhada. Vê-se que todo o argumento foi feito com vista a provocar muitos confrontos e muitas efeitos especiais. O que é sempre uma pena quando um argumento de um filme é criado em função dos efeitos especiais e não o seu contrário.

Uma nota final, fiquei muito surpreendido por descobrir que Mark Ruffalo interpretava a personagem de Hulk, sinceramente não o consigo associar minimamente à personagem. Não pelo seu trabalho mas pela sua aparência. Das três versões cinematográficas do Hulk, aquele que gostei mais foi mesmo o "Hulk" interpretado por Eric Bana, apesar do seu filme ter tido uma crítica mais desfavorável, creio que este actor correspondia bastante bem à personagem.

Em resumo, o filme está engraçado, com alg1s cenas bastante engraçadas e com muitos muitos efeitos especiais. Quem já conhecia a série de BD dos Avengers, acredito que vá adorar este filme, não obstante o facto de poder ter sido mais.

In Time (2011)

Um elenco surpreendentemente conhecido

Tenho vindo a ficar cada vez mais impressionado com a prestação do Justin Timberlake. Teve uma prestação muito interessante. Quer no filme Professora Baldas quer em Amigos Coloridos, ele teve uma atitude e presença muito constante e da qual não consigo encontrar nada a apontar. Mesmo perante a má produção de Professora Baldas.

Por outro lado, fiquei muito agradado por descobrir actores como Olivia Wilde (Dr. House), Matt Borner (Apanha-me se puderes) e Johnny Galecki (A Teoria do Big Bang) pertencentes a diversas séries televisivas e dos quais sou grande fã. Não obstante, fiquei muito desiludido com a dimensão dos mesmos papéis, em especial o de Olivia Wilde a qual já figurou num grande blockbuster (Tron: O Legado).

Exceptuando este pormenor, a história podia ter tido um pouco mais de profundidade mas não creio que o argumento tenha comprometido.

O conceito global do filme deixa-nos a pensar como seria possível vivermos num mundo assim.

Limitless (I) (2011)

Corresponde às expectativas

Um filme muito inteligente com muito boa realização e efeitos especiais muito originais que nos transportam directamente para a mente das personagens.

Bradley Cooper teve aqui um estrondoso desempenho, tendo-se adequado na perfeição à personagem, as suas expressões naturais, aliadas com planos fechados de forma muito inteligente por parte da realização, maximizaram o desempenho deste grande actor.

Exceptuando algumas falhas técnicas típicas de filmes de Hollywood (como por exemplo o modo como Eddie Morra aprendeu artes-marciais sem nunca ter adquirido memória muscular), o que mais me desapontou nesta longa metragem foi mesmo o final. Durante grande parte da fita, a droga foi retratada como sendo perigosa e letal, vemos apenas uma vez Eddie a tentar descobrir como reproduzir a substância (o que, no seu lugar, creio que seria a primeira coisa que fazia se tivesse aquele nível de inteligência). No entanto, no final, ele não larga a droga? E como é possível ele manter a mesma namorada que ameaçou terminar a relação se ele continuasse a consumir?

Estas foram algumas incongruências que encontrei e que me incomodaram.

Ainda assim, creio ter sido um filme bastante bem conseguido, com um argumento que, apesar de poder ter sido melhor explorado, não defraudou as expectativas. Eventualmente poderá ser um filme com potencial para uma sequela. Veremos...

Due Date (2010)

Roçou a perfeição

Há muito tempo que não encontrava uma comédia decente. Desde o sucesso de Scary Movie, a maioria das comédias virou-se para a "parody comedy". Essencialmente cenas ridículas e ridicularizantes que faziam uso da estupidez para entreter. Se pensarmos bem, até alguns dos melhores filmes do género de que me lembro ("Bruce Todo Poderoso" e "Virgem aos 40") são disso exemplo, foram casos de sucesso em que a comédia através do ridículo funcionou.

Em 2009, surgiu a jóia "A Ressaca", finalmente um filme de comédia incessante em que os actores não necessitaram de se expor ao ridículo para puxar gargalhadas do público aliás, todo o comportamento das personagens foi bastante verosímil.

E é aqui que chegamos ao nosso "A Tempo e Horas". Este filme evidencia fortemente a assinatura da equipa de "A Ressaca" com as personagens a serem coerentes para com elas próprias.

Por fim, resta-me fazer referência aos fabulosos Robert Downey Jr. e Zach Galifianakis. Desde que ví o primeiro "Homem de Ferro" que sempre adorei Robert Downey Jr., pela forma como empresta um certo ar cómico às suas personagens. Sempre foi minha curiosidade ver como ele se sairia numa comédia. No filme "Tempestade Tropical", mostrou ter um grande potencial, não foi por acaso que foi nomeado para um óscar por esse filme. Em "A Tempo e Horas", teve aqui o seu grande sucesso na comédia.

Já Zach Galifianakis, esteve muito bem em "A Ressaca" tendo desempenhado aqui um papel algo similar ao anterior, não obstante a sua boa performance. O que permitiu que esta comédia funcionasse tão bem.

Da minha parte, uma grande produção. Tendo em conta que falamos de uma comédia, esta roçou a perfeição.

Let the Right One In (2008)

Um filme que se destaca

Um filme bastante interessante. Admito que costumo ser um pouco resistente a filmes europeus e menos comerciais. No entanto, este captou o meu interesse. Uma das fortes razões por este facto foi a sua cativante fotografia, com bons contrastes e cores apelativas.

Para além disto, o argumento (como é costume) é uma das referências do cinema europeu. Neste caso, esteve ao nível das espectativas. Esta história vem na linha do "pós Twilight". Depois do qual começaram a aparecer filmes do género como cogumelos. Este é o exemplo perfeito de um filme que se destaca.

Por fim, uma nota para a realização cuja cena final, apesar de bastante simples, foi simplesmente divinal deixando muito espaço para a imaginação. Estupendo!

Up in the Air (I) (2009)

Bom, mas redundante

Um filme bastante interessante e que nos agarra até ao fim.

George Clooney mantém uma personalidade muito ao estilo "Ocean's 11". Da mesma forma, a banda sonora acentua ainda mais essa similaridade.

A moral da história também está muito boa e gostei bastante do modo como interpretaram as viagens aéreas.

Essencialmente, o único problema que lhe posso apontar é a sua possível redundância ao nível de argumento. Na prática, nenhuma das personagens evoluiu significativamente. A personagem principal, apesar de atravessar muitas mudanças e muitas coisas que o fazem por em causa o seu estilo de vida, no final, fica tudo na mesma. Acaba tudo exactamente da mesma forma como começou. Não houve evolução significativa de nenhum das personagens. (excepto a irmã da personagem principal, uma história lateral).

Where the Wild Things Are (2009)

Poderia ter sido melhor

Efectivamente, fiquei deveras desiludido com este filme. Tecnicamente, o filme está bastante interessante. Os personagens estão muito bem caracterizadas e os efeitos especiais não comprometem.

No entanto, o meu problema irá, provavelmente, para o argumento. Creio que a história tinha muito mais potencial do que o que acabou por demonstrar.

Se é verdade que a criança evoluiu, e obteve a moral da história, os seres selvagens continuaram no mesmo problema em que estavam no inicio do filme. Que moral é esta?

Outra falha na história que não me satisfez foi exactamente a complexidade do problema dos seres selvagens. Não existia um "mau da fita" definido nem é apresentada uma solução para o problema dos seres selvagens.

Por tudo isto, dou como nota apenas um 5.

Avatar (2009)

Bela história

Este é efectivamente um excelente filme. No entanto, tenho que criticar uns típicos clichés que prejudicam gravemente o filme.

Para começar, qual é a probabilidade de a espécie predominante noutro planeta seja humanoide, exactamente com os mesmos atributos sexuais que nós, com costumes idênticos aos nossos, etc? E, para piorar, até os próprios animais são versões dos animais que temos na terra. Nessa medida, eu diria que este filme se passa antes numa outra dimensão humana do que propriamente noutro planeta.

Depois, uma vez que todas as características supracitadas se confirmam, não é de estranhar que o nosso herói vá se relacionar amorosamente com um dos alienigenas. Novamente, outra coisa que eu acho inverosímil.

Posto isto, vamos aos pontos bons, os efeitos especiais são efectivamente sensacionais e revolucionários. Se ignorarmos os factos anteriores, a história até se torna bastante boa. A fotografia é muitíssimo boa e apelativa, e (novamente, ignorando os pontos referidos a cima) o argumento até é bastante envolvente. Ha quem se tenha queixado da duração do filme, pessoalmente, as mais de 2h do filme, não me custaram muito a passar.

Em suma, dou 8 valores, precisamente pelos efeitos especiais revolucionários, pela bela história, e pela razoável banda sonora.

Se me perguntam se merece bater recordes de nomeações aos oscares, apenas no sector técnico. No meu parecer, não é filme para ganhar muitos óscares, mas é um excelente filme para ver.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Amazing, never expected it to be this good

Well, the first time I saw this movie's trailer I never expected it to be what it turned up. In fact, I even thought they were announcing the program itself on the first posters I've saw about the movie.

Despites this, the movie caught my attention when I learned that it was nominated for the Oscars. Well, since Oscars aren't won by TV programs, I understood that this wasn't the case.

Right after the movie session started, and the first musics started to play. I felt in love for the soundtrack. The last time I felt this attracted by a movie's soundtrack was in "Juno"s movie.

Then, I really got involved with all history and, the movie's capacity of showing both sides of India. The most touristic, the most regular ones (the croudness of the streets and public transportation) and, above all, the underground world. Like, I still doubt it but, is it really true they cripple kids so that they look more believable when they go ask for money?? It shocked me.

In overall, I loved the movie. Even the capability of the writers to keep the movie interesting from the beginning to the end. Like you can't get off it until it's finished.

Amazing movie I tell you. I already have a space in my DVD shell for when it comes out.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

I expected more

It was a very interesting movie. I really like a lot this kind of movie. "Big Fish" for instance, is one of my favorite movies and the story is told pretty much the same way this one is. What got me disappointed with how "slow" the movie develops. The whole aging process went too slow. Making this movie pretty heavy and tough to watch.

The example of "Big Fish" is a very good one because it tells a great story, during the main character's aging, yet without betting boring by any way.

This detail is the only reason why I gave this movie a 6 star and not a 8.

Filme da Treta (2006)

A great Movie!!!! (for a Portuguese one)

I think that many people expected too much from this movie. Before I went to see it, many people told me about how poor it was and how disappointing they got after seeing it.

Well, to start, I think that people simply expected too much from this movie. We cannot expect to produce in Portugal, (a country where the cinema is mostly made to please directors artistic taste instead of the general public) a movie with the quality of the ones produced in countries like Spain, England or France.

1st, because we simply don't have the budget and 2nd, because of the reason I said above. This really was one of the very few movies I saw that was made for the public instead of the directors! It seams that the Portuguese cinema needed to have one movie with only less than 500 viewers to understand that, if we want the cinema to grow in Portugal, they have to make movies for the public and not for the directors. We simply don't have market for only the called "movies of author".

In this perspective, I think that this movie was a very good one and it's a very first step in order do start making more movies for the people! That's what I'm looking forward to see.

About the quality of the movie itself. I don't think it was bad. In fact, I founded it rather good. Of course it wasn't brilliant, but still, it was "just good". But, for now, I guess I can be happy watching a "just good" Portuguese movie in the cinemas instead of not watching any Portuguese movie at all! For that, I'm very happy with this movie!

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Refreshing and innovating

"The Fast And The Furious" series opened the cinema for a whole new way to make car movies. This 3rd movie from this series added the cherry on the top of a sweet cake. Lots of action during the whole movie and, I must say, a very good argument. Way better than the 2nd movie with some characters very well created and also their evolution through out the movie.

Although, sometimes, it seams that the story walks a bit too fast and things happen too early, this 3rd movie has one of the best arguments of the 3. And I'm still undecided if it is better or not than the 1st movie.

Some really good change in this 3rd movie was the feature of drifts instead of pure racing (shown so far in the previous series). THAT is the main innovation in this series as long as in cars movies. The creators of "The Fast and The Furious" were PROBABLY pioneers in making underground car movies and they were surely the first doing a movie about drifting.

I must say that Tokyo was indeed a very good place to film this kind of driving.

Just to finish, I just wanna say there's a great surprise at the end of the movie!!! ;)

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

Desapointment with the final

I had great expectations to see this movie. I knew it was the last one of the trilogy and I was really anxious to see how Phoenix would be represented. If it would be as I've seen it in comics.

But, at the end, the lack of flames in the Phoenix was the least of my disappointments. I got really disappointed with the end given to main characters.

Anyway, I just remembered myself that I cannot give away every detail of the movie. Anyway, I just have to say that I loved the main argument except (as I said) the end given to some of the main characters.

I can't really talk about the cast's performance because I don't believe I have the cinematic knowledge to do so. Still, I can keep complaining about some argument flaws. Such as, some lack of profundity in some characters and lack of explaining how some other characters ended in the movie. I'm talking about the character named "Juggernaut" and the little kid dressed in white (played by Cameron Bright) who didn't have explained what happened to them. And about the Angel (played by Ben Foster) who didn't have the profundity it should and seamed like it passed aside the movie, aside the story. That character was out of the story instead of playing a more important role.

Great Morale

This movie has a very good morale! When I went to the movies to watch that movie, I thought I'd go see some kind of "weekend comedies" where the funniness of the movies is based on stupidity (for instance, a jealous super-woman throwing sharks at his ex-boyfriend). Anyway, it wasn't nothing of what I expected. It had some really fun moments, that's true, but some of the people that saw it with me, also got to cry. This is something very rare in comedies. Having drama as well as comedy and that well balanced.

This a perfect example of a well thought argument and well done project.

Commedies like this one are rare this days...

The Girl Next Door (2004)

Good Movie

I found this a good movie. I think it has some good morale. Shows that not everything that u do tells the other's who you are.

It also shows the greediness that exists out there. And it contrasts with the innocence proper from youths.

Basically, it's a all family movie in which everyone would have profit watching it and would learn from it.

The characterization was pretty good as well.

With lots of fun and some bit of sexuality, "The Girl Next Door" Is a movie from which everyone should learn from and try to start seeing people from what they are and not from what they do for living.
