Filthy Rich (2020)
VERY Cheesy... but deserving of a second season
This is so cheesy! I mean everything... the script, the acting, the shots, the plot. All of it is cheesy. But it's also good. There's enough drama and interesting plot to keep it going and to keep me drawn in.
This is just a regular soap opera so if it's not your thang, then it's not your thang. But I did enjoy it. I liked the portrayal of a televangelist network, that was very funny.
I would've liked to see another season to see where everyone's stories lead, plus there were some major bomb drops in episode 10. I know the show got canceled to COVID-19 related reasons, but I think this show was deserving of more.
The Late Bloomer (2016)
Kumail Nanjiani and Jane Lynch are the Only Good Things About this Movie
This movie SUCKED! Like actually it was so bad. I barely laughed and it's supposed to be a comedy.
The only interesting thing about it was the fact that this story really happened to someone. Other than that, it was confusing and boring. The acting was terrible besides Kumail Nanjiani, JK Simmons, and Jane Lynch. Johnny Simmons just made me uncomfortable the whole time (which I understand he was supposed to, but it was unbearable) and Paul Wesley wasn't believable at all. I don't even understand why he was there honestly.
The reason I didn't give this movie 1 star is because some of the dialogue and interactions between the characters was genuinely funny- specifically between Kumail Nanjiani and Beck Bennett- and because the supporting characters pulled through and made this movie more enjoyable.
Other than that, it sucked.
Just skip this one. It's weird, uncomfortable, and sexist at times.
Employee of the Month (2006)
A Strong Cast and an Enjoyable Movie
This movie is just a chill, laid back, comedy. No, it's not the funniest movie I've ever seen, but it certainly did have its moments.
I found myself really attached to Dane Cook's character, Zack. He is the archetypal good guy with a sweet heart who discovers his worth at the end of the movie. Dax Shepard had the most notable performance in the movie. He was true to his character, Vince, and played it well.
There are some good messages in this movie like: never turn your back on your friends.
This is a good movie that I would recommend to a friend and would watch again.
Happiest Season (2020)
A Beautiful Story with a Lacking Lead
Going in to this movie, I was expecting a more comedic movie. While this movie did have many laughable parts (mainly delivered by Dan Levy), I was expecting more. That being said, this movie was still good, bringing wonderful values and real problems to light.
The most notable performances were from Mary Steenburgen (who plays the fabulous mother), Alison Brie (the snobby and vicious sister), Dan Levy (the hilarious best friend with perfect comedic timing), and Aubrey Plaza (the down to earth ex). But I felt that the lead of the film, Kristen Stewart, was lacking. I've actually felt that way in almost every movie I've seen her in. She seemed distant and uncomfortable on camera. It made it difficult for me to relate to this movie and to her character because of her lacking performance.
Overall, I did enjoy this movie and wouldn't be opposed to seeing it again.
It's worth the watch.
