Chanel: Gabrielle (2017)
No Keira Knightley, And Better Than ALL Calvin Klein Ads.
For four years almost, Kristen Stewart has been a rather effective and sizzling spokes-model for quite a few Chanel products- from clothes to handbags-to even eye-makeup. When I heard she would model a new fragrance by Chanel, I thought "Finally, No More Keira Knightly!" First, to get it out of the way, I will say what I DON'T like about this Chanel ad: Beyonce. If it had been up to me, I would not use a single song from that overrated lip-syncing, pole dancer! I more prefer the 2005 hit "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson. I DO like about this ad, that is not K-Stew, in a bikini, smooching with some dude like most Calvin Klein TV ads.(Yes.Looking at you Christy Turlington.) It showed that Kristen Stewart does have EMOTIONS and also showed that no matter what she does, the more imaginative project the better for her. And it also demonstrates that whenever K-Stew does any project that is sex/nudity implied, the girl KNOWS how to keep it classy.GO K-STEW!
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016)
Billy Lynn's - The War Film" Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" should've been but wasn't
A few months ago, while I was shopping at my local Walmart, I bought the film "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" and thing is I did not find a war movie, what I found was Tina Fey being a spotlight hog with the 15- years and counting war in Afghanistan used as a cheap plot device and with little to no regard for our men and women in uniform or what the Afghan people really live through over there. Well, whomever is reading this will have to check out my review of that film. And it isn't very pretty. Now as for "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk", this is my kind of war movie. A movie that focuses on the soldiers involved in the war. Not the privileged politicians who provoke the war( Lions For Lambs) or self-obsessed wannabe reporters( film I just previously mentioned). Billy(Joe Alwyn) is a 19 year-old Army private from Texas who saves his squad sergeant (Vin Diesel) from being finished off by the enemy and engages in hand-to-hand combat with an Iraqi insurgent, which for both the film and same-title novel, is considered "rare" for any U.S soldier. The event is all caught on camera and Billy is a national hero. Billy and the rest of the Bravo squad return home to bury Diesel's character and be kinda like circus clowns for a two-week " victory tour" . Billy comes home to his family, his sister Kathryn (Kristen Stewart) who recently survived a car crash and adamantly opposes the U.S involvement in the war, and his parents and other sister who clearly confuses patriotism with being a complacent ass who believes every non-sense their corrupt government leaders tells them. Kathryn tries to convince Billy that he did enough for his country and that he turn himself to the VA hospital and with the doctors help he can get an honorable discharge. Billy is then torn between taking his sister's advice or his commitment to his squad. Apart from Billy's conflicted feelings, the film also focuses on how soldiers are taken for granted. Like, Steve Martin's businessman character who wants to "invest" in the squad's movie but insists on giving them a REALLY crappy end of the stick. Or Chris Tucker as the well-meaning Hollywood producer trying to get the movie off ground and running but is forced to put up with the indifference of his Hollywood colleagues. Or the cheerleader Faison(Mackenze Leigh), where one can't really tell whether she loves Billy for being himself or loves the idea of screwing a war hero. Then there are others, like the punk who accuses one of Billy's squad-mates of being gay and pretty smug with himself until that squad member nearly strangles him to death or the hoggish stage manager and thugs who attack Billy and his squad for some misunderstanding that occurs midway in the film. Clearly Billy and his squad suffer from PTSD. Kathryn is right after all, but whether Billy accepts his loving sister's help, it's up to you, the readers of this review, to watch the film and find out. Now as for the performances, everyone was great. Joe Alwyn was great, I would like to see what he does in the future. Maybe be the new Captain America? When Chris Evans hangs it up? The sky is limit. Kristen Stewart was great in her role despite her limited screen time, and that's when one knows when an actor or actress is on their game. Vin Diesel was great in his role despite limited screen. Can you say "A-Game"? Chris Tucker was great , in this movie I am pretty sure everyone understands the words coming out of his mouth. Garrett Hedlund as Sgt. Dime was great too. People in the audience, myself laughed or chuckled when he said the darnest of lines. Like in the locker room scene, "Hey Billy! Did you find where they stash their steroids?" Hilarious. And as for Ms.Leigh who plays Faison, she was great too. And Steve Martin as bad guy that's very different for me. He was great too. Aside from Billy's dimwit parents, I give the movie 9 of 10 stars.
Moana (2016)
Don't Care for Animated Film or Disney, but this is an exception.
OK. I am a fan of Dwayne Johnson, ever since his days as a wrestler with the WWE, called The Rock. IN this movie, the songs were great. The setting was beautiful. And the story not too complicated. Newcomer Auli'i Cravalho was great with her voice acting and wish her the best of luck in the future. If you stick around for the after-credits scene, there is a very cool but funny pop culture reference to a classic Disney animated film. Instead of spending money on that over-rated snooze-fest " The Edge of Seventeen" take the family out to see this film. This is type of animated film, that will make you laugh and make you cry. This movie is great in showcasing a new side to Dwayne Johnson. Apart from the villain being underused, this movie is great. 9 of 10 stars!
